2011 Leh/Spiti [Planning & Discussion thread]

Hi Guys , planning to do jammu- Srinagar - Leh - pangong Tso, nyoma- keylong - Spiti- Manali - Delhi route this june.

need more information about Spiti, how is the road conditions from Khoskar/keylong to Spiti , and from spiti to manali.?? any one travelled on same roads last year ?? any special permission for spiti ?
and if any pics on roads to spiti would be helpful

Roads from Khoskar/ keylong is like a river bed, no roads at all.

Roads condition will improve after Losar but you will get bad patches. It is mostly offroading. No special permission needed for Spiti and if I was able to do this trip on my baby ninja with stock tyre then you can always do the same with ur baby.

As per my earlier post the starting date of my journey still remains 28th May fro this mammoth ride which we are starting from Pune, Now i have another question here and hope to get some quick replies on this as ill have to look for a different option if this dosnt work out: My question here is ive got a brand new R15 V.2 which will be delivered to me on 23rd Apr, so is it advisable to take it for this trip in the end of May as i think ill be hardly complete 1000 Kms in a month considering my work timings, please let me know if that should be ok or what problems will i face because of this....

My Route is

Pune- Gwallior - Delhi- Amritsar -Jammu- Srinagar- Kargil- Leh- Khardungla- Nubra- Leh - Pangong- Manali- Dehradun- Jim Corbett- Delhi- Agra- Pune

Can somebody help me with the documentation required to do a Leh trip. What photocopies of IDs are needed and how many of them are needed, please. Getting a little confused on that part?

As I live in South, I need to ship my bike to DL and then start from there, so any help regarding the general documentation would be really helpful.

You require any photo ID like Voter card,DL,Passport or Job ID(Govt) in original.
Xerox copy of any photo ID is needed to apply for ILP.
Once you get the ILP issued,get multiple xerox copies(10-15 copies).
There are multiple check posts where you would asked to deposit ILP to proceed further.
One more thing,write your name,phone no.,vehicle no. at the back of ILP in advance.It will save your time later while dealing with cops at posts.
