Wish you recover well & quickly.Originally posted by praholla View PostThanks guys! For the concern & wishes. Well this is an eventuality that every biker has to come to terms with one time or the other. I started around 6.15am from Ahmedabad towards Daman and half an hour later five dogs chasing one dog came suddenly across the road and I at a peed of around 70-80km could do nothing but go through the bunch. I hit one of the dogs bang in the middle (was hoping to hit either of its ends!) and fell along with the bike. Some construction workers lifted the bike, my things and me. I removed the helmet and saw that it was badly scratched on the left side and felt pain in the left forearm and saw a bulge. I realised that my forearm bone was broken. One of the construction supervisor Ganpathbhai took me to one Sharma Hospital where the X-ray showed that one of left forearm bones was clearly broken. The doctor said that it needs plating. Then I contacted my family doctor a reputed orthopaedic surgeon and was asked to come down to my home town. With the help of a family fried in Ahmedabad I took the evening flight to Hyderabad and then in the next morning was driven to my home town Karimnagar. In a couple of days I'll be operated upon in Hyderabad. The vehicle is in Ahmedabad and needs left foot peg, faring, blinker, visor and a few other parts replaced. The Apex Honda people said that it might be a while before they can get all the parts. I don't yet know when the doctor will permit me to ride, but once he does I'll resume my tour from Ahmedabad and finish it, which according to my schedule will take another ten days max. Till then I need to lie low I guess. I hope that I'll be able to finish the trip soon. Once again thanks guys!

I really don't feel like saying anything here until you picked me up...Originally posted by theironhorse99 View Postaargee.. you gotta wait for some more time mate to catch up with him in chennai. he did tell me that he spoke to you...
I wish I could really do some yagna or mass prayer for the well wish of all my biking friends as I'm hearing too much of bad news like this for over 3-4 months now; either the number of accidents have gone up or I'm getting to know too many people; but everyone or other is getting involved in some disasters like this & everytime I hear such news, it not only makes me sad, but also have a terrible day & feel very low. Again next few days, another such news crops up!!!
A very sad thing to note here is, all the 30-35 days spent on worst roads in North East & treacherous stretches in Leh/Ladakh went on smooth, but, disaster like this happens on a very well developed & one of THE BEST state in this country. The only consoling factor is that, no other human was injured to take rob or file a FIR.
I pray for a speedy recovery & most importantly to resume & complete this trip to successfully.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

This is indeed a sad news, But no worries You are ok with one broken forearm. It could have been more worst but god's grace you saved with this. It's nice that we see people humanity and helping in some needs. Surely they must be poor people. If they would have been in car or so then surely you would been sitting in one corner and self admiting to hospital. Still India has good people. I guess you din't had issues with the different language there??
And what happen to that dog, to whom you slamed?? Is he alive?? did anyone picked him to nearest Animal hospital??
Animal too have pains and feeling. You can speak and express your pain and recovery, But if that dog is not treated by any Doc then surely he will die with gruesome pain and starving. He can't even speak if he is having any broken lims or ribs!!
People are good here for human, but still we lack some love for stray dogs..Actually those 4-5 dogs were chasing an intruder in theri area, you himself was searching for a food or area to reside, But sadly he ended up with an accident...
Get well soon Bro....And God will see that Dog, whether he is fine or close to death!!!

Hello Guys! I got operated upon on 9th. On 6th day of the tour I had taken the entire weight of the bike on my right hand with a jerk when it was about to fall and ruptured my right bicep muscle and the bicep muscle went up by 3 inches. So on 9th both the arms were operated upon and put into slings. Right forearm fracture was plated and will be probably usable in about 3 weeks but the right arm might take 7 to 8 weeks or longer. My wife is helping me write the post. As a reply to the dog's fate inquiry as I was doing some 70 to 80 kmph the dog, I very much regret to say, died on the spot. Once again thanks to all for the wishes, prayers and concern.

Hello guys! It is 16 days since I had the fall in Ahmedabad, 12 days since I had surgery on my both hands and 11 days since I wrote my last post on the forum. First I thank all the people who were concerned about my well being. Theironhorse has been asking me to write about my trip for quite some time, so I am trying to oblige him. I don't know whether I'll be able to regularly do it, but shall try.
On 1st Sep, I started from my home at 6.30am for Raipur, with the odometer showing a reading of 3,510km and a tank full of petrol. I had Cramster Saddlebags, tank bag, backpack and a kit bag tied to the rear seat over the saddle bags with bungee ropes. Helmet was SOL, Gloves DSG, Alpinestar jacket, Axxo protectors. Yes the luggage was a bit on the heavier side but this being long road trip I thought that I would need all of it ( A few days into the trip, I realized that I was wrong ). I crossed the Raipatnam bridge which is the border between Adilabad and my home town Karimnagar and via Asifabad entered Maharashtra. Asifabad-Rajouri-Ballarpur-Mul-Gadchiroli-Mullah-Rajnandgaon-Durg-Raipur. At Ballarpur the road was bad, with pot holes as big as tyres. Beyond Gadchiroli asked for directions and was guided on to inner narrow single road which cut down the speed considerably( No I did not carry any GPS SYSTEM ). On the road when I stopped for drinking water a car came by and the person in it introduced himself as a journalist and asked me "Kya? Bharat Darshan pe ho kya ji?" and took a photograph. After Mullah the road became four lane. After Durg it got dark and started raining as I could not find my prescription clear eye glasses ( Till then I was wearing my prescription dark glasses ), searched everywhere except the waist pouch where they were! I found it difficult to ride. Managed to enter Raipur around 7.30pm. In Chathisgarh I found speed bumps at most of the petrol pumps. The dogs in this state were either naive or brave as they just don't move over when vehicles are coming their way, you have to circumvent them! Raipur being, comparatively, a new capital city was booming with construction activity. I roamed around the city in drizzle for about an hour before I found my self some accommodation. This I made a practice for all the capital cities, i.e. roam around the city,on entry, for an hour and then settle down some where.
Odometer reading at the end of the day 4,100-3,510= 590km. Petrol filled 10.69lts=790/-. Lodge accommodation =600/-. Food = 130/- 13 hours in the Saddle

02-09-2012 Second Day
After spending the night in Raipur(sleepless night, could not sleep!) started off for Ranchi around 6,30am. Upto Bilaspur the road was good and so made good time. It was cloudy when I started and around 8am it started raining and I stopped and waited for the rain to subside. After half an hour when the rain turned to drizzle I started again, only to stop again in an hour as it started raining again. I waited an hour in front of a provision store but the rain did not stop. Then I took out my complete rain gear, requested the shop keeper permission to change and wore the rain gear, bottom(which from that day till end I used to wear over my shorts or pants) and top and started off(from that day I did not stop riding because of rain and simply used to change my top from Alpinestar to rain coat and ride). After riding an hour in the rain/drizzle I came across a causeway overflowing with water. Trucks were crossing and smaller motor cycles were being carried. I did not want to risk as one of the motorcycle was dropped and my bike was considerably heavy. So I opted for a detour and instead of going via Raigarh tool another road. Raipur-Bilaspur-Balora-Urga-Hati-Dharmrajgarh-Pathargaon-Jaspur. Around 8pm I reached Jaspur and decided to stop for the night. I observed that there were no autos plying on these roads, very sparse public transport, lots of motorcycles on the road with entire families riding and as the dogs in Chathisgarh here in Jharkhand I found lots of fearless midget goats ruling the roads!
Odometer reading at the end of the day 4,560-4,105=455, Petrol 17.05lts=1,221/-, Lodge accommodation=500/- Food 115/-

03-09-2-12 Third Day
Jaspur was a small town and I found many government vehicles parked in the hotel I stayed, the drivers of which briefed me of the road ahead. Next day at 5am I left for Ranchi a 120km away and reached at 7.30am. Raipur to Ranchi was 575km. Rode around the town for an hour, took a photograph of Ranchi high court, tried to take a photograph of Rajbhavan but the security objected. Ranchi as Raipur is a new capital and was booming with construction activity. I found the roads and surroundings neater than Raipur but the roads were narrower here. Around 8.30am I left the city. I went through Murhu-Bandgaon-Chakradharpur-Chaibasa to reach the border of Odisha. Before Chakradharpur it was ghat had good time in riding on those twisters. The petrol pumps on this stretch were few and far flung so one had to rely on the loose petrol sold in the villages at a premium of 10-15Rs. Fuel in both these states was cheaper than AP. As I was a bit low on fuel and was not sure where the next pump was bought a liter of loose petrol at a premium of 12/-. Public transport is very poor in both the states, autos were not plying on highway and people had to depend on their own transports which were mostly two wheelers. When I crossed the border into Odisha there was no arch or indication the I was entering Odisha. The road from border to Pani Koli the town from where Golden Quadrilateral road to Bubhaneswar starts was mostly arrow straight. A few km in to Odisha as it started drizzling I wanted to put on my rain coat so stopped the vehicle an put the vehicle on stand. As I moved the vehicle a bit forward the stand went up a little and without realizing this I let the bike go and fell towards left with my foot pinned under the bike. A furlong away two people eating in a dhaba saw this and came running to me without even washing their hands and lifted the bike. As I was wearing Orazo shin lenghth shoes nothing happened to my toes. This was my first of many falls in the trip. 40 km to Pani Kola the road became bad with the huge pot holes and I reached Pani Kola around 6.30pm and it started raining. As it was four lane I decided to ride to Bubhaneswar and completely rode in rain and reached 9.30pm. There was abundant water and lush green fields in both the states of Chathisgarh and Jarkhand.
Odo meter reading at the end of the day 5,143-4,560=583km, Petrol 9.10lts 680/-, Lodge accommodation=520/-, Food=130/-

Fantastic trip, praholla. Actually, the title is misleading; it should have been Pan India, Bhutan & Nepal Trip!
