    Pan India Trip

    04-09-2012 Fourth Day

Bubaneswar to Kolkata, which was 450km is Golden Quadrilateral road and was but for few patches (totaling to 20-30km) was very good. Finally riding in rain everyday made me wise and I started wearing full rain gear so that if I encounter rain I need not stop. Up to Kolkata I had to ride about 150km in rain part of it was torrential. Before reaching Kolkata I had called Todi Honda and explained them about my trip and requested them for preferential and quicker service as my bike was to undergo Second Service of 6000km for which they agreed. I reached Kolkata around 2.30pm and while on the Howrah bridge saw a reporter taking photographs and requested him to click my snap for which he agreed grudgingly saying it was not allowed. I reached Todi Honda around 3pm and they promptly took my vehicle and finished the servicing by 7pm. In Chandni Chowk I bought a USB cable for my iPhone which I forgot at home and found accommodation in a hotel adjacent to Chowrangee Lane, took bath, had dinner and tried to sleep in the din of City of Joy

Odometer reading at the end of the day 5590-5143=447km, Petrol 7.63lts 520/-, Lodge 940/-, Food 150/-, Bike Servicing 1,250/- 7 Hours in the saddle

    05-09-2012 Fifth Day

The rain that started in the evening of previous day did not stop and in the morning around 9am I ventured out and had a very tasty breakfast at a way side tela on Chowrangee Lane for a princely sum of 45/-. Ultimately around 2pm I started off on my journey towards Siliguri. I loved riding on the cobbled streets which were aplenty in Kolkata. Getting out of a metropolitan city is dicey and it took me more than an hour to get out of the city to Airport from where I was to take the turn towards Barasat, Krishna Nagar and Bahrampur. As the rain continued and the road was unknown with heavy traffic the going was slow. By dark I reached Krishna Nagar and as the visor of the helmet had rain droplets which diffused the headlights of on coming traffic I had to call it a day ( I couldn't lift the visor and ride as then my spectacles would do the same) and stopped at a way side hotel for the night.

Odometer reading at the end of the day 5,700-5,590=110, Petrol 10.6lts 801/- Lodge 700/- Food 195/- 4 Hours in the SaddleClick image for larger version

You sir are not just an exception and an inspiration but an exceptional inspiration . Your resolve is exemplary. It was an honor and a true pleasure to have met you in person, share food with you and listen to your experiences first hand. The accident was unfortunate and the injuries must have been quite an ordeal both for you and your family. But your eagerness and resolve towards completing the ride is a plane above inspirational. Be around sir and keep riding not just for yourself but for all of us here.
I don't let my motorcycles interfere with my motorcycling...

Goswamiji. Your comment just made all my troubles worthwhile and yes the time spent with you gave my whole trip an impetus and made me feel the accident a small setback which just didn't dampen my spirits. You are doing a wonderful job in enabling people like me live their dreams and cherish life. Thank you and keep up the good work. It's an honour to be associated with you even for a few hours!

I am sorry to interrupt conversation between the two old-young veterans that we all can learn from here, but I think this would be appropriate time to say that I was honoured to have met Mr.Praholla at the xBhp HQ in Delhi. Again I reiterate (if someone is listening up there) - all I want for my 'older years', with due respect to you sir, is to be able to ride and do things with such resolve. Congratulations Sir, and may you keep on riding for many more years to come. here is photo of me with you at the xHQ:

                    • Age is just a number and the higher it is the older you are considered, but it rarely affects the spirit. You people on this forum and the magazine are trying to prove this right time and again and I sincerely state that had I not ventured on to this forum with my dream trip idea I would not have been able to finish it as the sum total support/advise of the members was what made me pull/push through the trip. I convey my specific thanks to Theironhorse, Aargee, Vickks, Devilboy for helping/supporting/advising/goading and to the workforce of xBhp for spending their quality time with me on my visit and encouraging me. And Sunnyji thanks a lot for the prefix, it consummates the trip.

Eagerly waiting for the complete write up. 41 days on road, having traveled through such a diversified land, culturally & linguistically, it would have been a wonderful experience. An honor to have people like you in this forum.

You, Sir. are an inspiration. Not just for completing this massive trip but also for continuing this trip even after your accident, because though most people would have just decided that this trip was too difficult and would probably have given up after that. But you got up and just completed it like nothing happened. Great to see this fighting spirit. I wish there were more people like you in my city too.
