    【 Hyderabad - Hampi road update 】

    Hyderabad -> Kurnool (NH44) -> Alur -> Ballari -> Hampi (Kamalapura)

Road from Kurnool to Ballari and then NH67 is all messed up. Roads are all under construction. Imagine driving on boulders construction material here and then.
One good fellow car rider advised me on way of Ballari to follow somehow better road.

It must take at least 7-8 month to finish it. But after that this is going to be butter smooth.

While return I took Daroji Kamalapura road - Ballari-Gooty
Roads are still in construction but being highways construction roads are manageable.
After that NH44, as usual butter.

Need some help regarding road conditions for the following routes. Tentative ride dates Nov 3 to 10th.

      Tumkur - Pondicherry
      Pondicherry - Rameshwaram - Dhanushkodi
      Rameshwaram - Valparai
      Valparai - Ooty
      Ooty - Chitradurga

Also any advice on weather conditions, hotels (2500/- budget per room/night) would be much appreciated.

You will be riding on four lane road till krishnagiri from there you will have to ride on the state highways via Tiruvannamalai where the road condition is not that good.

Our plan has now changed, as we have decided to skip Pondicherry and Rameshwaram because there is a high probability of rain (NE monsoon) during early November. Instead I am looking for road condition and best route option (smooth roads) updates to the following routes:

          Tumkur - Munnar
          Munnar - Valparai
          Valparai - Ooty
          Ooty - Chitradurga

For riders going from Hubli to Bangalore, six lane work is still ongoing. Be careful of gravel lying on the sides of the road and wear full riding gear to protect oneself from flying stones by other vehicles. Similarly, for riders heading towards Hubli from Bangalore, be also vigilant of unmarked speed breakers and gravel. Some portion of the highway is wavy in construction after Chitradurga and it is best to ride off centre. Overall, the road is good and meant for triple digit cruising.

Road from Hosur to Dindigul is fantastic. Munnar roads have deteriorated and patchy from the ascent to progressively worse heading towards Kochi.

Valparai roads are awesome. Roads till Sholayar Dam are good but no bikes allowed a little beyond towards Athrapilly Falls. Do not venture towards Nallamundi view point as the roads are aweful.

              Hey guys,
I am planning on a bike trip from Chennai to Thrissur
              Route planned
              -chennai to Salem
              - Salem to Pollachi
              - stay at Pollachi overnight
              - Pollachi to Valparai
              - Valparai to athirappilly waterfalls
              - athirappilly to Thrissur

Just heard that bikes aren't allowed through the Valparai route ( forest and police restrictions)anymore. This news came from people who traveled this route two weeks back. But nothing concrete has been heard.

              Can anyone confirm this?
I don't want to go there and end up disappointed. Might as well replan the route beforehand.

              Thank-you

You have heard correct. See my post below (refer page 29)

There are plenty of other rides you can do around Valparai and the Pollachi to Valparai stretch is out-of-this-world beautiful. Try and do this early morning.

Instead of Athrapilly Falls, you could also consider riding from Valparai - Palani - Kodaikanal. Take warm clothes. Ride safe

Thanks for the quick response. Had been on this route two years back and it was heaven. Probably we'll ride till the border checkpost and come back, because views are not to be missed.

                    Hello All,

I'm planning for solo trip along East coast from Chennai - pondicherry - Thondi-Danuskodi- manapad-Kanyakumari . From Kanyakumari to my native (Theni) and then to Chennai via NH 45a. Pls find the attached route map screenshot .

Anyone recently did this route ? Would like to know if any alternative route that I can take. Also it would be great if anyone could share the road conditions after the recent GAJA cyclone in these regions.

From what I heard recently, the coast road is avoidable as not only there are many small towns inbetween but also the roads are narrow. Overall this route will be slower. Better to stick with the main highway which you have highlighted in your map.

Thanks brother. But I usually travel on the main Highway via Trichy to reach my native. This time want to try something different that's why planned to take ECR route. And I'm already on it. Now in Rameswaram. Will update on road conditions shortly.

I know about this road. You will be riding through small villages all the way and your average speed will be disturbed by goats, cows , dogs and peoples. Also the road is vary narrow and pondicherry - kadalur - chidambaram route is full of potholes and you will be having more speed breakers near Karaikal to Nagoor road. Sometimes it will be very difficult to over take buses. Please avoid to ride in nights. It may take minimum 7 hours to reach Velankanni.

Avoid the coastal route in Kerala as it is very slow, traffic congested and can sometimes take the entire day to cross. The rest of your route is fine. Ride safe
