    Route: Bangalore-Mysore-Gundlupet-Gopalaswamy Betta-Gudalur-Vazhikadavu-Edakkara-Karulai-Mannarkkad-Mukkali-Aanaikatti-Coimbatore-karamadai-Dhayanur-Geddai-Manjoor-Ooty-Masinagudi

    Bangalore-Gundlupet:
    Good roads Overall.

    Gundlupet-Gopalaswamy betta-Gudalur:
Gundlupet to Gopalapura, good roads. Entry to Gopalaswamy betta will soon be closed for public. One needs to take a Govt Jeep/Minibus to the top henceforth, like a safari. The ticket counter and parking is ready. Once the amenities like a small restaurant and Restrooms are built, the rule will come int effect. Rules have become very strict in this sector. even cattle grazing is banned in the fringes of the forest too. In all probablity(According to the forest official on duty) the rules can come into existence in another 2 or may be 3 months. Theppakadu to Thorapalli, roads are horrible for cars.

Gudalur to Vazhikadavu: Just brilliant from Nadaguni to Vazhikkadavu, Saves almost 50% of time than what it was few months back.

Vazhikkadavu-Edakkara-Sirulai-Mannarkkad: Overall Good roads, very narrow for most parts of it.

Mannarkkad-Mukkalli -Anaikatti : Mannarkkad-Mukkalli : good Forest roads. from Mukkali roads become a bit bumpy and the condition remains so till you reach coimbatore.

Coimbatore-Karmadai-Mulli-Manjoor-Ooty: Traffic prone, CBE to Karamadai. Once you take diversion for Karamadai, its very lonely good roads. From Dhayanur, roads start to deteriorate a bit, might slower the speeds for people driving. This condition is almost the same till you reach geddai. From Geddai its just good Roads good roads and good roads throughout till ooty.

    Ooty-Masinagudi-Bangalore : Overall Good roads.

Went to Horsley hills earlier this week, took the Hoskote-Kolar-Mulbagal-Mandanapalle-Horsley route while going and Horsley-chintamani-Hoskote while comimg back. First one was 170 kms while second one was 120 kms and both the route took same amount of time !! !.
This highlights the condition of roads in the Hoskote-Chintamani road. It's condition is pathetic right now, lot of construction going on and I lost count of the number of diversions on the way. Please avoid especially in case of night ride.

Hi Guys, I am planning a trip from Bangalore to Wayanad in the coming week. I will be starting from electronic city early morning around 4am.Also I will be starting around 12pm from Kalpetta 2 days later.

BLR To Wayanad Route planned is : BLR-Maddur-Srirangapatna-MYS bypass-Nanjagud-Gundulpet-Sultan BAthery-Kalpetta.

Wayanad To BLR Route planned is : Same route in reverse except from MYS to Bangalore planning to take NH209 (Gundulpet - Chamrajnagar - Kanakpura-Bangalore)instead of NH 212.

Now my query is how safe are both these routes (as per my journey timings), since my girlfriend will be accompanying me in the trip.
While returning should I stick to conventional NH212? ya NH209 is a better option given the traffic flow from MYS-BLR on a sunday evening?
Also is there any stretch of more than 50kms which is without a petrol bunk?

Any other pointers would be great as this is my first biking trip to wayanad.

                  Thanks

NH209 is beautiful... single laned but very pretty too, curvy, full of lakes, green hills and streams. There's no danger as such except for lack of modern day city like amenities on NH209 (since you are a couple, you might want to fill your tummies before entering NH 209... there are petrol bunks though at regular intervals on this road. If its traffic and road bumps you really want to avoid then NH209 is good. If eatng places, double laned ride, through a familiar road then the normal NH212 should do good.

Cheers n have a good one.

p.s - Carry rainwear. Wayanad in the rains... wow. Have fun.

Hi Guys, I am from Cochin and planning for a trip to kodaikanal on 26th July. We are 6 people & travelling by an innova. Just needed to know which road to take .. since we are not seasoned tourers, and since we are going by a 4 wheeler, i am unsure of this is the correct forum, but, for lack of options, i am posting my query here. I havent decided on the route to take to Kodai and back. Any info on the road conditions are very very welcome.

PS: we are 2 guys, 2 females and 2 kids. so, safety is also of paramount importance.

Regular route from Kochi to Kodai goes though the annamalai hills I guess... The transport dept often offers status on that rd. Please confirm if the road is open and drivable since monsoons normally trigger a barrage of landslides on this rd.

Bangalore - Hassan : NH 48 4 lane road Overall Good roads.

Hassan - Sakleshpur - Nellyadi : Excellent Ghat road with the newly laid the tarmac except for few rough patches after Hassan.

Nellyadi - Uppinangadi - Belthangady - Karkal - Agumbe : Again Excellent single line road except some part before the Agumbe sunset point.

Agumbe - Halady - Kundapur : Single line beautiful ghat road. Near halady some 2 KMS are bad with Potholes

Kundapur - Maravanthe : Very Bad road starts from the kundapura circle with lot of potholes. Roads are completely damaged.

Maravanthe - Baindur - Bhatkal : Near Bhatkal again worst road with lots and lots of potholes.

Bhatkal - Murdeshwara - Honavar - Kumta - Gokarn : Super butter smooth roads till the deviation to gokarn on the left side near Divgi. After the deviation its all single line road in normal condition till Gokarn.

Shimoga / Bhadravati - Tarikere - Arsikere - Tumkur : It’s all Single lane road with good condition though some parts near tarikere is very bad and lots of speed humps, yeah it’s not a single humps, its a series of minimum 10 humps especially till tarikere.

Tumkur - Bangalore : Its toll road with heavy vehicle traffic.

                                Route Taken: Bangalore-Bagepalli-Kadiri-Pulivendula-Muddanur-Jammalamadugu-Gandikota-Jammalamadugu-Kolimigundla-Belum Caves-Tadipatri-Ananthpur-Dharmavaram-Bangalore.

Bangalore-Bagepalli-Gorantla-Kadiri: Good roads till Kodur(IIRC), where you deviate off teh four Lane Highway. From there till Pulivendula, its lonely country roads with decent Tarmac, but at some sections the roads become too narrow for even two SUVs to pass comfortably.

Kadiri-Pulivendula-Muddanur: Two lane empty roads throughout, Quality of the roads ranges from Above average to good.

Muddanur-Gandikota: Need not enter Jammalamadugu to get to Gandikota. Roads are average from Muddanur to Gandikota.

Gandikota-Jammalamadugu-Kolimigundla-Belum Caves: We were not allowed to enter Jammalamadugu due to some political unrest. we had seen the news which said about some violence there. So we had to take am off road Detour of about 10Kms, riding on the river bed and connect to Tadipatri road, some distance before Dalmia Cement Factory.NOT RECOMMENDED FOR 2WD and vehicles with low GC. The roads from there are good enough.

Belum Cave-Tadipatri-Ananthpur: Horrible sense of traffic combined with bad roads. Slow moving tractors running parallel to each other carrying the stones from the Quarry. Also the Birla cement factory truck traffic add to the Mess. Smaller stone slabs, which might have fallen from the Tractors stay uncleared and pose a danger for road users. Trucks come straight out of the Quarry without any indications. Added to it dangerous cross winds.

Ananthpur-Bangalore: a Sail to say the least.
