    Bangalore - Mysore which route?
Bangalore - Kanakapura - Mavalli - Mysore - Good 2 lane roads; other one Bangalore - Channapatna - Mandya - Mysore is boring with backbreakers

    Mysore - Hunsur - Priyapatna - Kushalanagara - Madikeri - Good roads

Madikeri - Suluya - Very bad

    Sulya - Jalsoor - Manageable

Jalsoor - Bekal gets good Good once you enter KL

Bekal - Hotel Niravana, right next to Bekal Fort; tell them reference as 2 guys who rode CBR 250R during March 2012, they might remember us.
Madikeri - Plenty; this is a good one - Honeypothomes, Coorg homestay, Coorg homestays and Coorg hotels :: Home

Could someone please provide feedback on the following route? This is my first time to either of the places.

      Bangalore - Madikeri - Bekal Fort - Chikmagalur - Sakleshpur - Bangalore

I plan to spread the ride across 4 days.
Searched around for some similar thread, but couldn't find anything specific. Also, any help with regard to pointers to accomodation, food and must-see attractions would be awesome!!

      Thanks
The route needs to be reworked:
Bangalore-Chikmagalur-Sakleshpur-madikeri-Bekal-Bangalore or vice versa. Otherwise you would be going round and round. Bangalore, Karnataka to Bangalore, Karnataka - Google Maps . Yeah this route can be easily done in 4 days

Regarding Accommodation: My suggestion, stop at a shack outside the town/city you want to halt, spend some time having coffee/tea and slowly start a conversation with the shop guy. He will give you good options. Has worked 95% of times with me. You can also ask the autowallahs, the problem is they follow you to the place because they get commission from the hotel guy and also they don't let you go unless you shell out some money to them. Yeah this is not the case with all autowallahs. Road conditions are good overall except for Sampaje to Sulya. If you are a meat lover Madikeri is "the" place, Cooorg Cuisinette, highly recommended.Google it. Roads are very narrow(That if one tractor comes , the one two wheeler can go with scraping the grass by the side) between Kodlipet and Somwarpet, with tall grass hindering the sight of the road up ahead. Please be careful.
      You can probably try this:
      Day 1: BLR-CHK
      Day 2: CHK-Madikeri
      Day3: Madikeri-bekal
      Day4 : Bekal-Bangalore.

P.S: this was Just a suggestion. final call to be taken by you.

      • @aargee and @phanikar

        Thanks for the update folks.

There's this Cauvery issue that's heating up in Mandya. Apparently folks are out there blocking roads. I was wondering whether there was anyway to by pass this, and still go via Mysore, or shall I by pass Mysore entirely, by going through Nelmangala and so on. But i doubt if the roads are good though.

@Phanikar: The reason I thought of that route specifically is because i thought, i wouldn't have to go on the same roads again. Here's the map. Or am I missing the point here??

Right now, i'm still deciding what to do about the Mandya thingy.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the accomodation and cuisine. Will check.

          Unless you've a TN registered motorcycle, nothing to worry;

If you're skeptical, take this route that is 99% same as what Phani said, just that it doesn't go via Mandya - Bangalore, Karnataka to Bangalore, Karnataka - Google Maps

If you skip Chikmagalur, you can do the same route & return via Bandipur/Charmarajanagara also or add more days & enjoy both

Edit - When do you intent to start? Looks like Cauvery issue is brewing - http://www.deccanherald.com/content/...ery-water.html

            • Well, the trip is planned for next weekend.15th Dec to 18th Dec. If the issue subsides, then good, else, I'm guessing via Kanakpura. not sure though. I wonder whether this mandya thing might spread.

              • IMHO, it's far far worth going via Kanakapura - Malavalli irrespective of the issue; the only downside I see is, you'll be tempted to make frequent stop for photography or you'll slow down to enjoy the scenic

                • Today is Mandya bandh.

Not sure how advisable it is to take Kanakapura route in these times. I think one might face issues near Malavalli.

A close friend of mine needs to go to Mysore tomorrow. I was thinking of suggesting Nelamangala->Channarayapatna->K.R.Pet->Srirangapatna route. Will this route be fine? My worry is this route will still hit Srirangapatna. Any other alternative route you guys might want to suggest? He will be going by a taxi.

Until the strike intesifies, kanakapura road should be fine. The cab drivers will generally know the by-lanes which they use to do detours to keep the meter ticking. Not much problems compared to BLR-Mysore road. Other option is BLR-Magadi/Bellur cross-Nagamangala-K.R.pete-Mysore with doing a round about drive on the other side of KRS. KRS-Srirangapatna/mysore road will be choked if the strike intensifies.

                    • Just called up KSRTC's Shantinagar office. No KSRTC buses plying today between Bengaluru & Mysuru either on SH17 or KanakaPura road (NH209?).

My friend decided to cancel the trip.

                          • Hi,

I've finally decided on this route.

I've heard that the route thru bhagamandala forest is really something. So i might go to bekal via that route, depending on the conditions. I do hope it isn't too hot though, cos that would suck then.
                            4 days, 2 bikers. phew!

I still need to get accomodation settled.

Thanks for the info on route guys. I've also got some must try coorgi hotels.
But any spots that I must visit??

One day? Via ECR to Nagercoil? In one day? Why dis Kolaveri?

When you can do Chennai - Chengalpet - Tindivanam - Villupuram - Ulundurpet - Samayapuram - Srirangam - Trichy - Madurai - Kovilpatti - Tirunelveli - Aralvaimozhi - Nagercoil in a simple straight forward easy route that will also be lesser in distance than ECR, why take the longer route & risk yourself?
