Hehe...every roads are dangerous in India, can't get better Go ahead & take the Shiradi Ghats , it's only the ghat that is bad, rest is good. If you take Charmadi, except Charmadi, everything else is shattered

    Bangalore - Nelamangala - Kunigal - Chanrayapatna - Shravanabelogola - Hassan - Sakaleshpur - Shiradi - Mangalore - Udipi

    • Anybody here, can enlighten me of the conditions of the road in Germalam?

      Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

When you can do Chennai - Chengalpet - Tindivanam - Villupuram - Ulundurpet - Samayapuram - Srirangam - Trichy - Madurai - Kovilpatti - Tirunelveli - Aralvaimozhi - Nagercoil in a simple straight forward easy route that will also be lesser in distance than ECR, why take the longer route & risk yourself?
Thank you !!! Just was curious to explore the route
        Now changed my mind .
going to stick to your suggested route.

If charmadi route is considered. Except for the roads around Karkala, the rest is fine now. Belur-Kottigehara had gone to the dogs, which is now repaired.

If Puttur Route is considered, Sampaje to Sulya is bad, rest is fine.

@Praj : If udupi is the destination, the you can try BLR-Chikmagalur-Vastare-Aldur-Sringeri-Aagumbe-Someshwara-hebri-Manipal-Udupi, just a suggestion, its a slower route but scenic. or via Kudremukh.

              • Update as on 1/1/13:
                Route : Bangalore-Mysore-Gundlupet-Bandipur-Masinagudi-Ooty-Gudalur-Sulthan Bathery-Gundlupet-Bangalore.

Bangalore-Gudlupet: Roads are fine with four lanes till Mysore and two lanes from Mysore. surprise humps to be aware of.

Gundlupet-Theppakadu Junction: At some sections its relaid and clearly marked.Overall good.

Theppakadu Junction - Ooty: narrow two lanes. very narrow at some stretches. Beware of wild animals, do not ride fast on this stretch. You can hurt animals to be hurt yourself.

Ooty-Gudalur: overall okayish. Potholes appear out of nowhere on turns. people coming from the opposite side can be on your lane on the curve to avoid the pothole.

                Gudalur- Sulthan Bathery: overall good.

Sulthan Bathery-Gundlupet: Roads on the KL side is still in bad condition. Roads on KA side are freshly laid and are in superb condition.

                    • Update as on 13/01/2012
                      Route: Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Salem-Puduchatran-Kollimalai-Aagaya Gangai Falls-Rasipuram-Bangalore

Bangalore-Krishnagiri: Chokking traffic till krishnagiri, road widening has made it worse. Most places the road widening work is complete. Riding in the night is a pain in the wrong place. People choosing this route for high speed runs, please reconsider.

Krishnagiri-Salem: Four lanes all the way. Good quality of roads too.

Salem - Kollimalai : Four lanes till Rasipuram/Puduchatran(whichever road chosen)

Kollimalai, Base to top: 70 Hair pins, official count, 15-20 more can be added to the cound if doing Aagaya Gangai falls. Road quality is good for the initial and final leg of the ghats, rest is okayish. Have to be very careful during ascent/descent as there will be vehicles coming opposite to you in pin drop silence.

Pls check out my thread to Kannur : http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/tourer/2...ste-tibet.html

You will be going through Coorg. The roads are mostly fine except for a few stretches, but really scenic. From Mattannur take the highway towards Thalassery.
