Hi guys, planning a trip to Idukki, kerala and also to Periyar tiger reserve. I will be going by Hosur Road till Pollachi, then to valparai and further from there. Anyone been there recently?

Anybody travelled through Shiradi ghat recently? I am planning to drive to Kavu through Shiradi on 15th August.

Recent information would be very helpful. I took this road in May and it was decent then. Not sure how it has held up to the rains.

Idukki roads are blocked and public warning has been issued not to venture to highlands(Because of landslides) and along rivers , because of floods. Also Valparai-Athirapally roads are damaged due to landslides

Shiradi is in bad state it seems, courtesy brother who returned from Dharmasthala yesterday.

Route: Bangalore-Salem-Dindigul-Bathalagund-Kodaikanal-Mannavanur-Kodaikanal-Palani-Oddachatram-Vedasandur bypass-Salem-Bangalore


Bangalore-Dindigul: needless to say, very good tarmac. Most parts of road widening around krishnagiri is completed, but few places still exists in progress
Dindigul-Bathalagund: Only 1 diversion exists, rest of the road is completed
Bathalagund-Perumalmalai-Kodaikanal: mixture of good and average roads.Concrete slabs on corners are dangerous when wet.
Kodaikanal-Mannavanur/Kavunji: mixture of good and bad roads.
Kodaikanal-Palani: good roads. one my fav stretched in the rain, unfortunately we didnt encounter any.
Palani-Oddachatram-Vedasundar by pass: good two lane roads. Beware of villahgers and cattle jumping on to the road out of nowhere.
Vedasundar-Salem : good roads again

Planning to do a trip with the aim of covering places along the Western Ghats. I realize it has been pouring in many parts in KL, KA & MH and the trip is not going to be easy. (Been reading in the papers about the rains wreaking havoc in some parts in KA & MH & roads caving in & stuff). Can someone please provide updates on the condition of roads in KA (and MH)? I’m looking at covering Bangalore-->Chikmagalur, Sagara, Sirsi, Dandeli, Belgaum (and then into MH).

Friends, need advice on road conditions on the below route:

Bangalore - Davangere - Hubli - Dharwad - Londa - Molem - Colem (Dudhsagar Falls)


Colem - Palolem(a detour to agonda beach) - Karwar - Ankola - Yellapur - (Magod Falls) - Sirsi - Siddapur - Jog Falls - Sagar - Shimoga - B'lore

1. Are the roads motorable this season?
2. Can this be done in 4 days on a bike?
3. What are the stay options near colem?

Bangalore-Hassan-Chikmagalur-kadur/Tarikere-Bhadravathi-Shimoga-Sagara-Siddapur-Sirsi-Dandeli-Khanapur-Belgaum. If this is the route you are enquiring about, then till Siddapur roads are good except for a small section around Thalaguppa, which is very much manageable. Around Khanapur, roads are bad, so much that the access from Belgaum to Goa via khanapur had to be shut down because of rains. Sorry Not very sure of Road conditions around Dandeli, a year and a half back roads were not that good around Dandeli/Ganeshgudi. Belgaum-Kolhapur-Satara being a part of GQ roads are good. Mathern present conditions not sure.

I m too planning a ride to Hampi next weekend. Was thinking of taking Bangalore->Tumkur->Hiriyur->Hospet->Hampi.
Any idea about this route? How is the climate, at that part now? I m not a big fan of 'riding in rain'. Hence the question.

I was also considering of extending the trip from Hampi->Badami->Bijapur.

Any updates on this route? Any alternative return route to Bangalore?

I was checking on the roads/route from Collem to Dhudhsagar! I know people ride besides the railway tracks to reach the falls But not sure how feasible this is.

Roads around Hospet was shattered few years back because of mining activities, not sure of the present conditions. Have "heard" conditions are better now. So may be somebody who has taken this route off late can give a better idea. It was raining a lot last week, my cousins had taken the hampi route from Dharwad. If you are not a fan of riding in the rain, better avoid it and worse, EXPERIENCE it

well the question is do bikes pay toll at the toll plaza, in the NH, etc., coz i have also seen bike just vrooming past the toll plaza, which makes me wonder what is the real deal.??

i am planning to go to trichy from bangalore in the coming weekend.!

AFAIK, none of the National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) roads collect tolls for Bikes. Yeah trichy to bangalore, you can come without paying a single toll.

P.S: Unless you want to take the elevated highway or the nice Road.
