Dindigul - Theni - Road work is mostly completely but few abrupt patches of Gravel still exist. Speed junkies need to be careful.
Hill Road to Kodaikannal (coming Via Dindigul) - Road work is almost getting completed. few Kms of acceptable number of Potholes - rest all fine.
Road from Bodi to Munnar - Roads were blocked by falling rocks in many sections in Hill road. Be ready to get stranded for couple of hours as Forest department will not open the road in case this happens. Many patchs of road is newly put waiting to be marked by white lines.Last edited by thegame0012; 04-15-2013, 04:25 PM.Nishant Kumar

Re: Updates On Road Conditions in South India
Hi,
As the return stage of my trip to south India ride from Pune to Kanyakumari. I'm thinking of the best ways out of Kanyakumari and back to Pune.
Mainly, what are conditions of the roads in Kerala? I was thinking of riding all the way the NH 47 to Kochi and then NH 17 to Mangalore and onwards and then joiningg NH4 at Hubli and finally Pune.
From a random reading of the posts in this thread,my feeling about Kerala highways are rather mixed.
So if someone could give me some typical time taken for covering certain stretches in Kerala(for eg.Kochi to Kozhikode etc),it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Updates On Road Conditions in South India
Route Taken: Banggalore-Gooty-Mantralayam-Yerigeri-Siraguppa-Kampli-Hampi-Anegundi-Virupapura Gaddi-Muneerabad-Koppal-Hubli-Dharwad-Bangalore.
Bangalore-Gooty: needless to say, fantastic roads
Gooty-Mantralaym- Freshly laid two lanes without markers.
Mantralayam-Yerigeri : beautiful two lane roads, at places there are unmarked road humps.
Yerigeri-Siraguppa: not so good village roads, potholes appear out of nowhere.
Siraguppa-Kampli : Torture by any standards. Average falls down to appx 20kmph that too on a motorcycle.
Kampli-Hampi: Beautiful two lane roads but are a bit narrow.
Hampi-Aanegundi : Ferry transports motorcycles from Morning 7AM to 5.30PM. Two ferry point are further of Vijaya Vittala Temple and one behind Virupaksha Temple. Ferry not quite big, can hardly manage 4-5 bikes at a trip. Cars need to take a round about trip going back to Kampli and taking Gangavati route.
Aanegundi-Virupapura gaddi-Munirabad: two lane country roads with unmarked road humps
Munirabad-Koppal-Gadag-Hubli-Dharwad : except for the first few kms till Koppal, rest of it is beautiful two lane freshly laid tarmac.
Dharwad-Bangalore: Part of GQ, so roads are favorably better. Now only 8 diversions exist between Chitradurga and Tumkur. Surprisingly dint see a single road direction board or a destination sign from Hiriyur till outskirts of Tumkur

The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Re: Updates On Road Conditions in South India
For Bikers to Goa from Bangalore:
Bangalore to Hubli is the good old NH4- Bangalore/Tumkur/Hiriyur/Chitradurga/Davanagere/Hubli (by pass). From here there are two options:
1. Yellapur/Ankola/Karwar/ Canacona/Margao/Panjim (Longer than 2, but good roads throughout. Careful with the traffic on NH17.
2.Dharwad by pass/ Ramnagar/Mollem/Ponda, then take towards Margao for South Goa and towards Panjim for North Goa. The stretch from Dharwad to Ponda used to be pathetic but almost 90% done up now. Very scenic and shorter.
Enjoy & Ride Safe

Re: Updates On Road Conditions in South India
Most of the highways are really good it all matters when you take a bypass or a village road
other then that most of the highways are well maintained through out the year Thank to NHAI(National Highways Authority of India)"Life is all about burning petrol and the most efficient way to do so is by riding a bike"

Re: Updates On Road Conditions in South India
Most of the roads are decent enough for commutation. However we are bound to experience patches.
I just stumbled upon this link on the internet Click here and it gives the current status of most of the road conditions in India submitted by most of the users. It looks very useful for frequent travelers.
***P.S. Please scroll down to the end of the page and submit your review on how bad the roads were that you've traveled. This could help somebody I guess, I mean something like a consolidation***Last edited by petrolhead_chn; 07-07-2013, 12:42 PM.My DIY(s) - Sprocket bearing change | Paint job | Custom speedo dial
Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Re: Updates On Road Conditions in South India
Route: Bangalore-Kunigal-Hassan –Belur-Chikmagalur-Vastare-Aldur-Balehonnur-Koppa-Thirthalli-Nagara-Kodachadri-Hidlumane Falls-Nagara-Thirthalli-Sringeri-Kudremukha-Kalasa-Mudigere-Belur-Bangalore
Bangalore-Hassan: Four laning “almost” complete till channarayapatna. Bypass for channarayapatna , open, but be very careful while riding in the night as there are incisible imperfection which can make your Bike/Car fly in the air.
Hassan- belur: As usual, Good.
Belur-Balehonnur: Overall Good, small section taken a beating because of the rains.
Balehonnur-Koppa-Thirthalli: PLEASE DO CONFIRM WITH THE KOPPA POLICE STATION IF YOU ARE TAKING THIS ROAD IN THE RAIN, They are very co operative. Few days back Bhadra was flowing out of proportion and washed away a person who was crossing the road. No also one day of heavy rain, water will definitely come to the road.
Thirthall-Nagara: Overall good, with small sections prone to landslides and overflowing rivulets.
Nagara-Sampekatte: most section is relaid, looks like in the coming months post rains, the entire stretch will be relaid.
Thirthalli-Aagumbe road was closed due to road block as a huge tree had fallen down. Information courtesy, the jeep drivers who regularly ply on that road adviced so.
Thirthalli-Sringeri-Kuduremukha: Beautifula roads, most of which is newly laid.
Kuduremukha -Kalasa-Mudigere: Most stretch has fantastic roads, except for some 8-10kms max which has rough roads, but very much driveable.
Mudigere-Belur: Relaid sometime back, 10 times better than what it was earlier.Last edited by phanikar; 07-08-2013, 12:21 PM.
