    Shree. I agree with rixBHP. My mom called me yesterday and said Monsoon has begun. It was pouring crazy. And some flights were delayed towards Kerala.

    You will love it - the rain.

    Edit. I would have taken the Mysore-Calicut(Kozhikode) Alappuzha route just to Enjoy the Rain and coastal Ride. If you are going on a vacation. Try to visit the Muzhappilangad Beach in Kannur. I so wish I could take you there. I will head next year for sure.

      @Sreeni : Just in case you have time, you can try coming back via Manjeri-Thamaraserry. The roads are new laid and fantastic. Its saves the distance by 50-60kms as well and pretty scenic. The route that you have quoted, is boring from the time you turn for Palakkad and is literally an oven during Noon.

        After Mannuthy, it's a four lane road till Cherthala. In the Cochin - Alappuzha stretch beware of Police cameras. In kerala max speed limit for 2 wheelers are 50kmphr... lols. If it's a mobile unit they will stop you. But if it's a fixed camera, I guess you dont need to worry as they are not going to trace you as your bike is not Kerala registrered.
        One more thing is that, it's going to be raining from June (24 x 7). So be prepared for that.
        Happy riding.

          Pondy right now is very humid(considering coming from Bangalore). Krishnagiri-Tiruvannamalai road is gone to the dogs

            15 days back i had a trip to Pondyy. While going in daytime I took the followoing road BANGALORE-> HOSUR -> KRISHNAGIRI->MATHUR -> CHENGAM -> THIRUVANNAMALAI -> VETTAVALAM -> VILLUPURAM->PONDICHERRY (294 Km)

            In this stretch KRISHNAGIRI--> THIRUVANNAMALA is very bad... lots of big craters are there...rest of roads are good... if you are going under sunlight then only take this route..

            While returning We took the following stretch

            Pondicherry -> Tindivanam -> Gingee -> Arni -> Vellore -> Krishnagiri -> Bangalore (371Km)

            The condition of this route is awesome..only here you have to cross some small towns between between Tindivanam - Vellore.. you can take this path anytime(day/night)

            The weather in Pondy is warmer than Bangalore... but in any seashore it will be like this much...

            • Updates on road condition : Mysore - Mettur Road

              We are bunch of bikers planning to visit Madikeri (Coorg) from Chennai this weekend. While returning back to Chennai we are planning to take Mysore - Kollegal - MM Hills - Kolathur - Mettur road to reach Chennai.

              Would like to know anyone from this group did this stretch recently and would like to know from them the Condition of the road between Mysore - Mettur.

                  Hi,

                  Couple of months back travelled between Mettur and MM Hills. From Mettur till TN Border, the road is at good condition. After crossing the TN - KA border the roads are just average and in some stretches it was very bad.

                  • Bangalore - Mangalore road is in good condition

                    The road from Bangalore to Mangalore NH48(NH 75 - Google maps) is in pretty good condition now.

                    Bangalore to Bellur Cross: superb condition (6 lane road)
                    Bellur cross to Hassan: fair enough (6 lane construction in progress)
                    Hassan to Sakleshpur: Double road but in good condition
                    Sakleshpur to Gundya (GHATS): Potholes are fully patched... For now it is in good condition (By the time monsoon ends, potholes may resurface )
                    Gundya to Mangalore: Double road but in very good condition.

                    After almost 10 Years, this road is back to a descent condition... (Thanks to the ban on mining hence the mining trucks have stopped plying on this road)

                    • Road Conditions:

                      Bangalore - Belur Cross - Excellent 4 lane highway

                      Belur Cross - Chennarayapatna - Work in Progress with few diversions. Proper markings are there and hence not an issue to identify

                      Chennarayapatna- Sakaleshpur - Good road and few patches are fixed with rubber sheets and easy ride

                      Sakaleshpur - BC Road - Shiradi ghats are still good and no bad patches at all

                      BC Road- Mangalore- 4 lane completely

                      Mani - Puttur - Road widening completed and excellent work done. Road markings to be completed

                      Puttur - Sulya - Work in progress and few bad patches

                      Sulya - Sampaje - Work yet to be started but moderate roads, couple of bad patches

                      Sampaje - Suntikoppa - Excellent freshly laid roads and breeze to ride over there

                      Suntikoppa - Ilvala - Excellent roads which was done close to 6 years ago

                      Ilvala- Srirangapatna - Few bad patches but serene nature with paddy and sugarcane fields on both the sides

                      Srirangapatna - Kengeri - Need not say about the road conditions but the traffic was pathetic.

                          2 options
                          1) All the way from Vellore ->Krishnagiri->salem-> Chengapalli is fantastic 4 lanes(just before avinashi).You have 2 options from there on, either ride through coimbatore to palghat(6 laning works going on till walayar) or take a left from chengaaplli->tiruppur->pollachi->palghat->tichur->(hopeless roads inbetween)cochin->quilon->trivandrum

                          2)Just blast all the way from Krishnagiri to Nagercoil(complete 4 lane) and take 2 lane roads to trivandrum from there.

                          Hope this helps

                              This weekend me & my friends are planning a trip to Germalam from Bangalore.
                              The route which we are planning to take is Bangalore -> Madhur ->Malavalli -> Kollegal -> Germalam.
                              Any idea about the current road conditions??

                                Hey Susheel,

                                Two options;

                                Bangalore - Maddur through normal mysore road (has a lot of road humps and traffic, but its a road with median. Dont really know the bit between maddur and Malavalli, should be okay though. Malavalli to Kollegal has a good road surface. Kollegal to Germalam i expect to be like one of those ignored state roads, quite a few potholes but doable.

                                Another good option would be to hit Kanakpura Rd and reach Malavalli straight, take a left from Malavalli junction to Kollegal. This route too is very scenic and has overall good road surface with less traffic. Only problem would be hardly any stoppage places (no A1s or Kamats on this route), there are some local food places if you look carefully serving some local stuff with great local vegetable produce *yumm. On this route you'll cut down a fair bit of distance too I think, mainly because youre basically heading South south west. This would be my preference due to scenery and less of traffic, but you think about it.

                                Have fun cheers.
