Road conditions:
Manipal to Marvante: Good roads but heavy traffic density 7/10
Marvante to Dharmasthala: Good single lanes 8/10
Dharmasthala to Gundya: Bad roads 3/10
Gundya to Sakleshpura: Very very bad roads, infact no roads 1/10
Sakleshpura to hassan: Good single lane roads 6/10
Hassan to magadi: Good 4 lane road with diversions for road widening 8/10
Magadi to Bangalore: The initial stretch is pathetic, but once you cross the town,its neat all the way till bangalore 6/10

riding solo from b'lore to hyd next week.
since i have the time, planning on a
leisurely one-and-a-half day ride.

can anyone recommend a decent place
to sack out for the night?

someone talked about an AP tourism joint,
just off the highway near kurnool. if you've
been there, then 2 questions:
a) is it reasonably clean?
b) what's the chow like?

shiradi ghats

guys

also have a trip from bangalore to mangalore coming up.

needed an update on the shiradi ghats route. has anyone been on this recently?

checked recent posts, but most of them deal with alternative routes.

please help.

byker7: Shiradi ghats is in the worst possible condition rite now. It has more of potholes than tarmac. I did this route for diwali and was extremly dissapointed. Would like to advice to take charmadi instead.

I went through shiradi ghat 2 weeks back, the road is not as bad as few describe. I have seen it far worse than before. From sakleshpur to Kempahole the roads are good and you can average good speeds. From kempahole to gundya the roads are in bad condition at certain stretches but in bike you can easily go through it.
I did clock 100kph at one point in this stretch

From nellyady to bantwal, the road is fine condition and awesome fast curves

Charmadi is in good condition apart from few hairpin curves but the road from belur to mudigere is pathetic that i would suggest to go through shiradi itself.

BTW, either of you have any idea about my earlier post regarding the APTDC hotel/lodge/motel near kurnool, on b'lore hyd route?

Bangalore - Kochi - Alleppey

Planning on a ride to Kochi and Alleppey during Christmas weekend, can anybody give me an update on the current road condition??

Was planning to go by Mysore-Wayanad-Calicut route and return through Coimbatore-Hosur or vice versa.

Any input is welcome.

The roads between Cochin and Alleppey is heavenly except for an 8 km stretch near the town of Cherthala where the road is in execrable condition.

Also, if anybody has got any info on NH-212 or any other route to take between Mysore and Sultan Bathery would be greatly appreciated.

Pune - Hubli - yellapur - Murudeshwar - wayanad - Munnar OR Coorg - Mysore OR OOty - Bangalore - Pune.

would like to know,
- is it raining in Kerala?
- road conditions from Murudeshwar upto Mysore route..

Ride down to South East Tamil Nadu

Hi,
I am planning to do a leisure ride down to South East Tamil Nadu over a 7 day period towards the end of the year starting Christmas.
Rough plan is to head south from Bangalore and hit the coast somewhere south of Pondicherry. Then trail south at a leisurely pace till I run out of time (6-7 days)

I need help with two things:
Road Conditions:
I am not very particular on the route other then the general direction. So any tips on alternate roads would be helpful.

How is the Bangalore Pondicherry road(NH66). A friend reported that it was not so good in the last of Oct. Any recent updates?

Road connecting Cuddalore - Karaikal - Nagapattinam - Devipattinam - Rameshwaram

Roads connecting Rameshwaram - Tuticorin

Roads connecting Tuticorin - Kanyakumari

Interesting places on the Route Above:

Not looking for famous operational temples.

offbeat places

Places to avoid

Any other advice on other than the info in " Guide on Essentials of a Long Drive" thread.

@vkcage, Hi buddy, we (wife and i) will be riding from Bangalore to Kanyakumari next week. We are taking the same route via Mysore/Bathery/Calicut. Had gone by car a couple of months up to Kalpetta. The roads were fine. The alternate route would be to continue straight after Gundalpet through Bandipur to Gudalur and through Nilambur. You wont touch Calicut on this route and I have no idea about the road condition.
I am also wanting to know details about NH-17 from Calicut to Kochi, from what I hear, roads are not too good and traffic is high. We plan to check at Calicut and decide, we may take the Kottakal/Trissur/Aluva route. We will be breaking at Alleppy enroute.

Pathetic till about ramanattukara. Best thing to do will be take the new by-pass from thondayad (or malaparamba) to ramanattukara. That road is awesome.

Thought of taking NH 17 since it would be more scenic, but if the roads are bad there's no fun. We will be riding on up to Alleppy, Trivandrum and Kanyakumari. We will be breaking journey at Calicut. Any suggestions for the above route will be welcome.
