Guys, the Royal Enfield Himalayan Odessey 2010 is seheduled from 18 June to 03 July. We might want to be away from a crowd of 50 bikes at that time.
BTW, their registrations are opening 5th April. Royal Enfield | Royal Enfield | Himalayan Odyssey 2010 Cost - Rs 22500.
Steve, got your trip plan from the other thread:Originally posted by steveburnside2001 View Posttrip plan looks nice and is almost the same as mine.the only difference is we are planning to go from diksit to warila and then to changla and finally proceed towards pangong tso.

According to thisplan, if we have to start from Leh, ride to Nubra Valley and then to PangangTso via Wari La, then Marsimik La and back to Leh, we would clock about 700 KMs. Your question about fuel would come into light here.
The only fuel station apart from Leh is in Diskit and availability there is not guaranteed. I think it would be a risk. Especially because the Wari La route is not good - no tarmac and the bikes would consume more fuel.
So, considering 15 Liter tank & 30 KMPL, we get 450 KMs range. Plus a 10 Liter petrol can can take us 300 KMs further. That's 750 KMs. A margin of just 50 KMs. I am not comfortable with the idea.
Any other idea about this?
If we can work around this, it would save us a day and the expenses there-by. Of course, the ride would get a little tougher for one day.Last edited by HydBiker; 04-02-2010, 12:25 PM.

here is the updated plan

For fuel concerns I have posted a comment. Apart from that fuel should be available in tangste and diksit in black.
Tso morri and Tso Kar will be attempted only if things go smoothly, if not these days will be kept as buffer days.

So your plan changed to July now. OkieOriginally posted by steveburnside2001 View PostFor fuel concerns I have posted a comment. Apart from that fuel should be available in tangste and diksit in black.
That's a good work-around you have mentioned for the fuel.
Now, let me ask you, what does the Wari-La route offer us to view and how bad is that route? I ask this because Diskit - Wari La - Pangang Tso is just 34 KMs less than Diskit - Leh - Pangang Tso. Add to this the diversion for fuel (20 KMs) or buying it in black. This neither saves money nor time. The only bonus could be some beautiful scenery to catch enroute Wari La, if it is on offer!
I am defanitely keen on saving a day if the route wouldn't sqeeze me out. Now I realize that if we can do Diskit - Wari La - Pangang Tso in a day, we can as-well do Diskit - Leh - Pangang Tso on the same day.Last edited by HydBiker; 04-02-2010, 10:38 PM.

Kp Uncle, how about having a custom-made fuel tank of capacity around 20-25L for your R-15??

I guess it would solve the petrol worries. You can even sell us some petrol in black too.

Honda Aviator || Kinetic Flyte || Kinetic Blaze || HH Splendor

I think he will take the Victor...it will be easier to carry stuff&moreover the R15 tyre will slip too much off road.Originally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostKp Uncle, how about having a custom-made fuel tank of capacity around 20-25L for your R-15??

Important Question: *How do we get a permit to visit all this places?
- Do we have to come to Delhi for the permit or it can obtain from Leh or any other place?
- If so then we will not come to Delhi, we will come directly to Ambala by train
- Bike transportation, by Gati or Train which ever is hassle free
- One or two days spare, we have 20 days max for this trip

Better Vistas offered in June, if you can make it.
Day 1 - Mumbai To Delhi or Ambala (By Train)
Make sure your bikes are transported in one shot. Else there would be delays and more chances of damages.
Very much possible. Most of us are doing the whole Delhi - Manali in one day light. You can alternatively do Delhi - Mandi one day and then Mandi - Manali the next day. But if you can't do about 500 KMs in a day on tarmac roads, it is very difficult to do 200-250 KMs a day after Manali.
Darcha. See out plan earlier for distance. Attaching it here too.
Permits is easy and is done in Leh. Your hotel guys can help you.
Ahead of K'La do the Nubra Valley to visit Diskit, Sand dunes at Hunder, Hot water springs at Panamik. Stay there and come back next day. If only Khardung La then you can do it on Day 6 noon after getting permits.you've set aside 6 days for Leh to Delhi. You can do it in 4 days. So, along with additional sight seeing you make it in 5 days enabling you to spend an extra day around Leh.
Bike transportation, by Gati or Train which ever is hassle free
Start checking your options first. Yoou have some options to Delhi but not sure about options furthr up north.
Please note:
250 KMs a day in that terrain is very good pace. That should equal to about double the distance on normal roads. Don't just count KMs. Count the conditions too. Good that you have extra time available. He he... how I wish I ride my Victor down to Ladakh!Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostI think he will take the Victor...it will be easier to carry stuff&moreover the R15 tyre will slip too much off road.
Whats on your mind KP?
I am changing my R15's rear tyre to Ceat Vertigo Sport 100/80 x 17 Tubeless (Button Design) for this ride.Last edited by HydBiker; 04-03-2010, 09:52 AM.
