Sounds like fun! But with greater number of bikes come greater probability of screwups and also greater amount of fun... its a double edged sword!

It would be fun if the head/bike count remains 10 ONLY..

You've ridden enough in small and large groups here in the plains and western ghats. You have seen the issues that come up when the group size increases. Now that will happen even up there in the Himalayas, but the effect will be magnified a lot more! As there are more variable introduced for going wrong.

Hmm..that's 1 point of it..!! But, it can be rectified/solved if the riders and their riding style are known and they are experienced enough.

Even for an experience rider, a fall is 90-95% sure atleast once..!!
Different bikes will perform differently on the altitude. Different health issues, different adopting style with the atmosphere. And mind it, you will be staying for 15 days or more, so even tuning among is very important to avoid any ego, attitude & adjusting issues.

Boss group rides mein bahut kuch hota! Even with experienced ppl 10 people together is really huge. Anyways your choice, you will learn it either way!

There are many variables I can't sit down and list each and everyone of them for you, you are experienced enough to know what all can go wrong with the increase in group numbers.

Not necessary! The probability to fall is higher no doubt, but its not a given that you will fall for sure. But one must be mentally prepared for it.

I agree..!! It cannot be described or counted.

Right, its not 100% sure. But most probably to happen. Fall also includes bike getting tilted & couldnt get it back straight due to the heavy luggage bolted on the rear. The terrain is totally unimaginable, unexpected gravel, mud, water, snow & to top it up the freaking chilly weather & altitude. Just my experience..!

I for one, wouldnt want to be a part of a 10 bike group ride, that to Leh. Trust me, there are a lot of downfalls
                    1. Average distance comes down drastically per day
                    2. Everyone has different needs - some want to smoke, some want to pee, some want to take pics. All these might not take place at the same time
                    3. On an average, morning departure times go hay-wire by couple of hours.
                    4. Always slowing down / stopping to make sure everyone is ok, riding together etc.

These are just some of the many issues. Having conducted so many HXs (himachal xplorers) in the past, it goes without saying that the best group for rides like Leh is 2-5 people

Excellent! Could not have put it better....

EDIT: Bro HX-6 anytime possible in the near not so distant future?

^^ @Bunny: And the expert speaks himself..!!

Most importantly the distance covered per day in the Himalayas is extremely less & a bigger group will make it really very less for the perfect reasons by Bunny. Its very important to reach on the destined places. Cannot think of stop in middle & staying back for the night.. Un-Imaginable for me

As per me, the best count will be 4, but shouldnt exceed 5.

Guys, pls don't discourage the team here. This is the most enthusiastic Leh plan thread for this year so far. All the guys in the plan so far know each other and have ridden along pretty much. It is good for them to plan it together.

My opinion, the best they can do is to go together and when in hills split into 2 or 3 groups based on preferences and early wake-up ability. Some will even drop out from the plan before starting the trip.

And, to my knowledge, guys from Mumbai 'generally' have a bindaas attitude as against 'generally' rigid attitude of a Hyderabadi or a Delhiite. Please don't take it offensive as that is one of the points I was stressing upon that we take things more offensive than a regular Mumbaikar.

Way to go guys, plan your trip. You've got the warnings from experienced people. Count them in. Make it a mega trip.

^^ No offence to anyone here. Rides are meant to be fun, but having too much of a bindass attitude can make a difference between life and death there.

Its best if they split into groups of 3-4 and meet at the end of the day at there pitstops for the day.

Not saying its impossible to do it with 10 people, there have been rides with even more people.

But more people = more probability of screwups!

                                Couldn't resist jumping in .

As far as the group size is concerned, the ideal group size is 2-5. If there's a large group (say 10), you'll automatically see the group split into smaller fragments based on their preferences - as long as the coordination between the groups is good, you're in the green. We typically see it even in groups of 5 - on the HX-5 we were loosely split as 2+4 - no probs there

My advice - Take it slow, enjoy the ride and don't get overconfident - always respect the mountains, you'll be taken care of properly.

@Bunny - Long time no see. Anything on the cards for HX-6? (Bhutan / Spiti look pretty tempting! )
