I had driven many times in the past, my earlier trips include

Mumbai to Delhi - thrice
Manali to Rohtang
Mumbai to Udaypur
Mumbai to Mount Abu
Mumbai to Jabalpur
Mumbai to Parchmarhi
Mumbai to Pune
Mumbai to Kolhapur
Mumbai to Mahableshwar and many more around mumbai

We are three people for this planned trip. If any one wants to join us we welcome that too.

Delhi - Chandigarh in one whole day? Are you going to get it serviced in chandigarh?

If not then I would suggest head off to manali and stay in mandi. My two cents.

Also if you want to have even more fun via going to Manali then go to shimla and get to Manali after crossing the Jalori pass.

The route is Chandigarh - Shimla - Narkanda - Sainj - jalori - aut - kullu - manali

My plan is to reach delhi around 1:00pm. Get the bike serviced in Delhi then take that day rest in delhi.

Next day morning from delhi start for chandigrah. If we reach chandigrah before 1:00pm then we will not stop at Chandigrah and move for Manali and stop someware in between (mandi or shimla [if I take the route you suggested]).

Did you travelled to Leh before? Would like to have a call if it is ok with you. my number is 9820480706

That was on back of my mind for long. But, how is the road? How much time might it take from Shimla to Manali in this route?

My thought (dunno if possible): Delhi to Shimla. Spend the evening going around Shimla
Next day Shimla to Manali and spend the evening there.

Otherwise the current plan is to start early from Delhi and reach Manali same day.

If you plan to get ur bike services in an autohrised service center you better call them up and take an appointment. Mostly SC's don;t take bikes for service from the noon.

The road is fine except for 5 kms below the pass on both sides. You will enjoy the scenary as you descend from jalori jot towards shoja and banjar. It is very beautful, much more than the boring NH21.

Time breakup:

Shimla - Narkanda - 1.5 hrs
Narkanda - Sainj - 45 mins
Sainj - Jalori - 2 hrs
Jalori - Aut - 2 hrs
Aut - Kullu - 1 hr
Kullu - Manali - 1 hr

Total: ~ 8 hrs from Shimla (If you have some hill riding experience, than it can be cut down to 7 hrs)

I am an over-cautious rider when I have to ride into a turn where I cannot see what is ahead. That makes me considerably slow in hills. Just moderate. So, with photo breaks I count it to be 8 to 9 hours. And then, I dont expect this to be a daunting task as 1) I am used to riding long hours 2) the ride is not high-speeds or very hot sun so less strain 3) would stop at many places at least for photos.

Yes it can done very easily. Jaipur To delhi takes roughly 2hr30min to 3hrs. While Delhi - Shimla takes around 7-8hrs.So it will be like

Jaipur - Delhi (3hrs)
Crossing Delhi - (1hr)
Delhi - Kalka (5hrs)
Kalka - Shimla (2.5hrs)
Stoppage and all - (1.5hr)
Buffer - (1hr)

So if you start at 4 in the morning which I highly recommend you should hit Shimla by 5 in the evening.

Finally after long and multiple discussions with Bikers, Xbhpians and after lot of research I have frozen the plan

The date is fixed 6th June 2010.(Ideally I would like to start earlier than 6th June but it seems lot of hurdles in office and personal) We will ride from Mumbai to Leh and Back. Currently we are three going together

Some corrections :
Leh - Pangang Tso is around 160kms one way & the roads are not so good. You will be passing through Chang La (3rd Highest motorable road). We did to & fro in a day. But would suggest dont hurry. I think its worth spending a night too if possible at the Lake else you may return back
Leh - Khardung La is just 60kms not 180kms
