Oh! then that would be a problem. I guess I got a plan, will start implementing on it now.

BTW Marsimik La included now, thanks

      • Shimla doesn't fall enroute.. You should be heading to Manali (Delhi-Manali). Next day, Manali-Darcha..

        You can't really stay at Rohtang ... it's a pass ..

            • Mumbai-Leh-Mumbai Start July 24 2010

              Hi All,

I am planning a trip to Leh from Mumbai on bike. The trip starts on 24July 2010 at morning 4:30am.

The tentative plan is as below

Day 1. Mumbai to Ahemdabad -554km
Day 2. Ahemdabad to Udaypur - 243 km
              Day 3. Udaypur to Delhi - 405km
Day 5. Delhi to manali (one extra day stay for bike repairing and oil change etc.)- 550km
Day 6 Manali to Sarachi - 300 km
              Day 7 Manali to Leh - 300km

We will stay in Leh for 2 days and then we will be back on the same route.

The purpose of this trip is to do photography in Leh and biking. The trip is going to be around 20 days. Me and one of my friend has planned to go.

Let me know if any one is interested to join us. The tour is fixed and plan is going to be revised based on the feedback

According to me the approximate major expense are as follows

              Petrol = 8800(for 5500km 31 km avg)
              Food = 5250 (250 per day for 21 days)
Hotel stay = 8400 (400 per day on sharing basis for 21 days)

Rest of the expenses like medicine, extra bile accesories, special clothing etc are extra

The entire expenses would be done by each tourer.

Any feedback are also welcome, I will refine the plan based on the feedback.

              Regards

              Sujeet

                  Day 7 Manali to Leh - 300km
                  Some suggestions for the plan:
Day 5 : It will be bit too much for you to ride down to manali from Delhi in a single day. I know many can do it, but just thought of making you aware that it will be hectic, as after Chandigarh you will be in riding in mountains. Hence the distance covered per hour will be considerably less.
Couldn't understand about Day6/7. Are you planning to do Manali to Leh in a single day??
Also, the date & month you have decided to ride in, you will be riding through rains in most of the places & most of the times. So consider that too..

Thanks for the suggestion Rachit, I take your point, We will do Delhi to Chandigrah and chandigrah to Manali.

What is the best time you suggest to go I am actually open from June to August.

One more question is I heard roads are closed during the end of may or early June because of ice on the roads.

I am planning to change the plan little bit so that we can spend much time after manali.

                    Regards

The best time to visit there will be Early June, ideally the first week.
AFAIK, the roads open during the end of May. After Manali, you can spend time at LEH or around but not on the journey.
There are lot of LEH experts here which can help you out with more precise details.

                      • Sujeet, you can even do Delhi - Mandi one day and then ride to Manali from Mandi by noon and enjoy the evening at Manali. Instead of Mandi you can even do Bilaspur from Delhi. Here's the distance chart for you:

                        Delhi -85- Panipat -35- Karnal -83- Ambala = 203
                        Ambala -47- Chandigarh = 47
                        Chandigarh - Panchkula -9- Pinjore -40- Nalagarh -32- Swarghat = 81
                        Swarghat -40- Bilaspur -44- SundarNagar -25- Mandi = 109
                        Mandi -19- Pandoh -21- Aut -29- Kullu -13- Katrain -21- Manali = 103

There are more alternatives as in you can go to Shimla and then to Manali.

Roads are generally closed till Mid May as it would be frozen. They open by mid may or so based on how the ice clears. If you are open from June till August you'd better do it the earliest - June.

                              hey ...

riding in a group is always a better option .... for fun as well as for safety.
its okie if you haven't done any long rides earlier.... you just need to be a responsible rider. take a small trip around a hill near your home.. that should give you enough experience on how to navigate those curves.
