  • Exactly what I thought the morning I woke up..we were sleeping just 1 km away from where the disaster struck !
I myself helped in the relief operation. It was painful to see the bodies coming out of the rubble.
You won't believe, we guys didn't sleep the next night. Woke up till 5 am and then went to bed, only after seeing a clear(enough) sky. Man those 3-4 days changed my perspective, totally !

    • @xtreme.rider: Reading about such a disaster and experiencing it first-hand are two different things altogether. We cannot even fathom the kind of weather, conditions, etc. that you must have experienced during these days.

Yes, the weather this year has been seriously freakish. I just hope this is not the start of something serious, on the climate front. Good to learn that you are back safe and sound. Bike, I am sure, will reach 'home' eventually.

          Hi,

I wish every one be safe in Leh. We also did a trip to Leh on the month of June just before the disaster in Leh.

From Delhi to Delhi guessing that you guys will be visiting Khardungla,Pangong and Nubra the number of days required will be 10-11

Query#1- money requiredWhats the least amount of money required to tour from delhi to khardung la including all expenses?
              Petrol - 5600
              Food - 3000
              Stay - 3000
              Other - 3000

query#2- best month?Between may and august what is the best month to travel to leh?
July end to Aug end is safest i.e all the passes will be open. June mid to end if you want to see and feel snow

query#3- will it be okay to take a bike which has run just 2000kms?
              Yes

              Query#5- route?
Go via Srinagar and come via Manali

              • Thank you very much for your inputs sir....
                Also regarding expenses,
the figures you mentioned are per head or for entire group?
                and one more query...
Shall we take the money as cash or are there sufficient ATMs there?

The figure mentiond are per head. Regarding cash I will suggest carrying around 70% cash along with you and leave the rest 30% for ATM's. There are ATM's but it might not work at the given moment

                  • Thank you very much!!!
I guess 15000 per head will work out fine...

                    • I am planning to do a trip to Ladakh this August.
We are 6 people in total from bangalore.
In the group couple of girls are also there.
what we are thinking is where to stay on the way to Ladakh.
                      Our plan is as follows:
1-> Take bikes till Delhi by train.
2-> Ride from delhi till manali in one day ( start at around 3 AM from delhi).
3-> now the question comes to my mind is from Manali where should be the next night halt ? As girls are going to be there in the group, so we cannot stay in tents. we have to stay in Hotels.
So can any one suggest what kind of route we should be taking from manali. or should we change our route and places of halt ?
I have read a lot of threads regarding this. but could not find this answer.
Please can you guys help me out with this please.

Also while returning from Ladakh we would like to take the srinagar way.
so where all we should stop for night halts.

Please guys i need your help as i have very less information about the route.

Keylong/Jispa have got good hotels....and it can be your first halt.

Second halt at Sarchu/Pang, but both these locations only have makeshift tents...

On return journey Drass JKTDC Guesthouse is the best place to take a halt
It's not the hours you put in, it's what you put in the hours!

                          • I would also love to join the august ride of urs

I've been 2 times to shimla. I am sufficiently experienced rider ( riding for 14 years now & my daily commutation is about 150 Kms, part city & more highway ) I would be riding with my wife ( i am 27 years old ) Royal enfield.

I would be riding for the first time to Leh, i've collected sufficient info or routes, permissions, time investing patches, etc.

So, if possible, then en route me, i am from delhi.
