Just an update for Pirelli ...It is not following BIS norms hence Selling of any Pirelli is banned in India..This is told by Pirelli distributor in Hyderabad confirmed from dealer and headoffice.

Hi All,

Need help for selecting tyres for my ZMR. I ride only in the city. Looking for tyres which have excellent dry/wet grip & last a reasonable amount of time (around 12-15k km) without losing grip levels/performance. Looking for tubeless tyres only unless there is no worthwhile option.

After searching through & reading multiple threads & checking out the available options in my city, I have short listed the following:

Front:

1. Zapper P - 90/90 -18
2. Pilot Sporty - 90/90 -18
3. Zapper FS - 80/100 - 18 (Stock tyre)

Rear:
1. Michelin Pilot Sporty - 100/90 -18
2. Zapper Y (Stock)

Pirelli's are not available anywhere. One dealer that I spoke to told me there are tubeless options in Ceat & Continental as well, though he could not tell me the exact model names/numbers & would update in a day or two.

Any suggestions/experiences with the above tyres are welcome. Also, how does the Pilot Sporty fare in comparison to the stock Zappers on the ZMR?

Initial impression with the Pilot Sporty 120/80-17 is positive. The grip levels are slightly better than the Zapper vyde which i had earlier. The bike feels much nimbler and eager to lean. Changing lane is more effortless because of this

Ceat Vertigo, MRF Meteor, Ceat Gripp are good options with good off/on road trip. Vertigo comes as TL, please check for others.
AK3D got Ceat Zooms and they are good, though not TL.

Thanks! Yes, I read most of the threads & AK3D reviews of the Ceat Zoom were positive. But, as they are not tubeless in 18 inches, they are not my 1st option.

Are you sure Vertigo comes in tubeless in 18 inches? If yes, will contact the Ceat dealer here for more details. Is the Vertigo softer/grippier than the stock Zappers in you opinion?

Are you sure Vertigo comes in tubeless in 18 inches? If yes, will contact the Ceat dealer here for more details. Is the Vertigo softer/grippier than the stock Zappers in you opinion?

Yes vertigo does come in TL. and yes definitely better than stock in grip (not sure about softness/hardness).

Today fortunately I went to the same area from where I last bought the Michellin Front tyre.. by mistake he gave me the rear tyre. I went to the shop and complained about the mistake.. they immediately changed the tyre for free

Before (Rear tyre fitted as front)

After(the front tyre.. same michellin)

Many people thinks 120 profile tyre needs chain cover cutting.. but its a direct fit.

Before fitting it does looks really wide..

After fitting it looks like this

Appreciate the input. How does it handle in wet roads, did you try them braking hard, please let us know your thoughts on this too.

Pirelli's are pure overkill w.r.t the prices they are being offered at. For front with I'd suggest you stick with Pilot Sporty and not the Zapper FS, using Zapper FS for the second time, purely because it lasts a tad longer, but grip wise they almost fall in the okay-ish category. The MPS has gotten both thumbs up and thumbs down, it really comes down to budget.

For rear, you can use Zapper Y or the Q series or you can consider Dunlop Monster.

For a moment my jaws opened wide with the mod, but only after reading did it revert back to its respective position.

But all in, congo. Just let us know how the Q fares in wet upon hard braking.

Well there have been no rains in Bangalore recently so not able to test wet grip.

Panic braking is also good. Does not lock up so easily. The main plus point is the rear does not step out upon panic braking or lock up. The bike still moves in an almost straight line

I should have phrased it better. What I meant to ask was that would the stability be affected by having a Medium compound at the rear and softer compound in the front.

Anyway, I went ahead and fitted the Michelin tyre and am glad that the handling is as good as it has been.

Not a problem.

But since you asked the question, let me share my experiences, as a matter of fact, it's always a good idea to have a softer compound in the front and a med to or a sort at the rear, not hard as such, but most are hard. I use a med in the front and soft in the rear so it's a 50/50.

Thanks for the heads up. Do let us know how it fares in the wet, and I would suggest not to do the testing in a safe place, just after it rains for a few mins and then stops, this way the road is at the max slipperiest state rather than a full blown rain blast.

Friends, which tyre is best for classic 350, 18 inch, rear tyre for tarmac and terrain. Need a tyre with really good grip on both. All suggestions are welcome and consider me noob in the tyre world.

Also is tubeless option is available as the RE does not come with tubeless tyres.
