  • Mate you have a couple of options here.

But what is not an option, is going for non-stock replacement air filters, like the conical ones by knn. These require you to modify your air box. That is cut them off.

However nowadays there are stock replacement air filters available from a 3-4 companies. But not sure they are all available in India.
Simota and Knn. Knn i think is hard to find as they are imported by local retailers and they find it extremely slow moving on their shelves, as a result they hardly stock. Simota on the other hand is stocked by Joel as part of after market upgrades for R15.

Putting perforamnce airfilter means increased airflow, however in india it means lot of dust and other particulates will enter the engine. Which will result reduced engine life.

This fact I have seen in my father`s car so I can also vouch for it.
          So how about bikes ?
Can any knowlagable person shed light on it ?
try uni foam filters it has better purifying ratio compared to k&n...

          • Make sure you oil these cotton filters, Don't run them dry, straight out the box, Unless you want to let dust into your engine.
There is a small satchet of oil, red in color included.
Make a tiny pin prick in the tip of the teat, slowly squeeze it onto the peaks of the filter ridges while running it down the length, Don't over oil or it will just drip off and pool up.

If you do this then you will eliminate the dust problem, the dust sticks to the oil in the filter.
Should you be riding/driving in very dusty areas, get a old sock, and cover the filter if it is a cylinder/cone shape/universal filter as a primary barrier against the larger dust particulates.
If its a airbox type then work out a way to use the sock to cover the air inlet, or you will be constantly complaining about the filter being dusty.

Get the cleaning kits for these filters, It has solvent and the recharge oil. DNA, K&N are interchangeable.

            • Want to add K and N universal filter to my TVS Star City.

              Hello all,

I would like to add this filter to my Star city as it should increase some performance and mileage. Will it create any issues to bike's engine ? I also want to know how to install it on my bike.

              Thanks in advance.

                      Pros:
                      1. Your scooter will feel faster.
                      2. Your scooter will make more noise.
                      3. You can buy new scooter/bike/car sooner.

                      Cons:
                      1. Your scooter may feel faster but its most definitely not. It feels so due to the added noise it makes.
                      2. Since you will be running a lean mixture, Your scooter will overheat.
                      3. The valves will go kaput sooner rather than later due to this overheating.
                      4. Cleaning a K&N filter is not exactly cheap if you use the correct stuff.
                      5. With no actual performance benefits, its hard to justify the cost of the filter over stock filter.

                      Myths:
                      1. Adding a K&N filter will not add 1-4 bhp to your ride.
                      2. Even if your mileage increases after filter swap (*highly unlikely*), the added maintenance will more than exceed the savings from petrol.

If you need an unbiased opinion of a person who actually used K&N filter for extended periods on his bike, please go through this post

Like i have mentioned on the honda activa/dio/aviator ownership thread... these filters are just a waste of money. replacing the stock filter every year/8k km and cleaning them every 1500-2000km is the norm for these scoots with paper type filters.
if you want a small bump in performance without any major mods done on the engine, the safest way would be with installing lighter roller weights and stiffer clutch/torque springs (dont over do these, just one step up/down and check the performance).. i will let you know the availability of these stuff soon.. though i got a pack of roller weights from usa thru a friend, i have located a ebay seller with pretty economical rates and will let you know if it works out procuring from them.

                          Thankyou for the reply Antz
                          like your Pros
I have recently bought R15 so.. No new vehicals for now atleast a year !

                          1) And I was thinking that The mixture will be lean but I can Re-Tune the Carb and get the mixture to perfect balance then will the engine overheat ?
                          2) I know that 100ccs cant be more faster with just Air-filter changes so.. That thing Is well prepared for !

                          3) And of the maintanence costs I can do some monyshedding Because I really dont drive Aviator to long distances and milage is the least thing I expect from my vehicals
