PUC = Pollution Under Control, its a certificate!

Cops catch coz they want chai money. So they will look for excuses to nail you for some reason or the other. They can even go ahead to the extent of cooking up new rules.

A cop once caught me and told me that we are supposed to pay road tax the moment we enter a state, so I asked him what do I do if I am on a multi state road trip. His answer was that I should pay road tax at every state.

PS: I have'nt paid the road tax and neither am I doing so till the Taxation sturcture is unified and not state centric!

@MODS: Isn't there a Universal thread for the registration/road tax related queries? Can we move this thread there??

If you plan on using the bike in Bangalore for a period of 2-3 years and then head back to TN, you need to do the following :-

    1. Be in possession of RC, Updated Insurance, Update PUC.
    2. You do NOT need NOC. (NOC is only required when you want to re-register the vehicle in another state)
    3. After moving to KA, you need to pay temporary road tax for the time period of your stay in Bangalore. You don't have to pay Life Time Road Tax again in KA.

That is all, have the above mentioned 4 documents with you at all times. TN bikes are something the cops look out for here in Bangalore with a very keen eye!

I've been riding a TN bike in Bangalore for 10 months now!

As far as i know if you don't want to register the bike in other state then you just have to pay the road tax, for that no NOC is required..its just that you won't be able to sell your bike in karnataka.

    things you need:
    1. Invoice of the bike ( to calculate the current value, tax will be 4-7% of that depending on the age of the bike)
    2. RC
    3. insurence
    4. emission certificate

    Btw check karnataka's transport website..

I'm going ahead and bringing the bike. Let's see what to do next.

    Hi Kirosh,

Apologies for replyin late by months.

Well I've a bike with UP registraton no. I've been riding in NCR for last 10 mts & no hassles at all. Just keep all necessary papers intact:

    1. Registration Certificate
    2. Driving Licence
    3. Pollution Certificate
    4. Comprehensve Insurance

Some of my frens have kept HR & PB bikes for years. Delhi is full of vehicles from other states so don't get stuck in NOC issues and all, unless you plan to sell it here.....

If you plan to visit Taj Mahal, go w'out no plate and you would encounter nothing.... just kidding.

In UP, don't ever worry bout no plates.... papers are always necessary. Tourers are respected everywhere... my personal experience. I was offered tea in Jaipur by a senior Cop, though he bombarded me with queries.

You face any problem in Agra, let me know..... it's my home town.

    Regards,
    Abhishek Bhatt

You don't need any NOC/paperwork if you're only going for touring as such. When you enter the other state, you will be asked for how long you are going to stay, at the Toll Booth. If you say not more than a day or two, you will be given a ticket valid for a week at a nominal charge of Rs.50 or so which you can produce if a cop catches you.

@Kirosh: Congrats! I got my vehicle transported by train to&from Bangalore twice too. First time no damage, 2nd time front footpeg was bent.
As for the sticker marks, try cleaning them off with a cloth dipped in petrol. But do not pour petrol directly on the paint, as it will fade.

    Octroi Charges

What are the Octroi Charges or Taxes ? Why does one have to pay them when u transport ur motorcycle on a train from one place to another ? I have heard of these charges only in the metro cities.

Ive also heard that the tax is refundable and also that its charged because your importing a vehicle to the metro city such as mumbai.

Why dont they charge you when you ride your bike to mumbai ?

Why are these taxes present ? Please clear my queries... Been puzzled about this for quite a while. Tried my best by googling these but was left with no clear answer.
