It doesn't rotate. And I wanted to ask, is there a particular torque at which the plug has to be tightened? I had the sound when the plug was overtightened. Loosened it a bit and retightened it with much less torque and the sound was reduced considerably. It's still there though.Originally posted by V!RU$ View PostSarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.

Never overtight a spqrkplug. The threads on the head are of aluminium and that on the plugs are of stel..on excess lressure while tighfening the hreads on the head wil get deformed , causing ithe plug to be loose and will cause in compession loss..why take all the hassle. For perfecf tighcness..first set the plug at finger fight position and fhen use the plug wrench to tight it a little more..thats mkre fhan enough.Originally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View PostIt doesn't rotate. I assume it was a reply from a phoneOriginally posted by krish2778 View PostNever overtight a spqrkplug. Anyway, the message is conveyed so thanks!
Anyway, while untightening the LH spark plug, I did notice pieces of metal stuck at the thread. The plug thread had taken a beating thanks to the overtightening. I had to frantically try to make sure the pieces don't fall into the combustion chamber. Yet again, it's all the fault of the bajaj servicemen!
There's something written on each spark plug, but I wasn't able to 'decipher' it. What is it? Heat range? Or something else?Last edited by Aditya N Bharadwaj; 03-03-2013, 08:43 PM.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.

Lol..yes i was giving the reply from phone. Ans so is there any damage to the threads on the head ? do get it checked out if its ok or will it cause any problems.
Coding on the spark plugs are the model number and yes heat range too. But I don't know to decode it.
Senior member will be able to help there.

No damage as such, but fine burr-like pieces were found. The thread wasn't cut anywhere.Originally posted by krish2778 View PostLol..yes i was giving the reply from phone. Ans so is there any damage to the threads on the head ? do get it checked out if its ok or will it cause any problems.

What's a laser iridium plug? NGK claims it has a lifetime of 100k kms! Is it worth the hype?Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.

Is it worth the hype and price ? I can't say for sure as i haven't used it , but it sure doesn't need any kind of cleaning or adjusting like the conventional stock plugs. These plugs operate at a heat range where they effectively clean themselves , avoiding the problem of claning it at certain intervals. And since they are like that they assist in a greater efficiency in cumbustion,so a slight increase in acc and mileafe can be obtained.nothing substantial ,but just a mere small increase.Originally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View PostNo damage as such, but fine burr-like pieces were found. Try to remember how much torque you have applied when you removed the spark plugs for the 1st time then apply the same amount of torque or pressure turns on the spark plugs. Everyone has different power. If we give to a bodybuilder he would damage the spark plugs as he may feel the spark splugs are loose. This video shows what you have asked Spark Plug Torque Specifications - What can happen if you over tighten or under tighten a Spark Plug - YouTubeOriginally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View PostIt doesn't rotate. I can't able to find such wrench with adjustable torque as shown in the video.
CAUTION: If your bike is still under warranty then don't mess with this , give it to the Bajaj service. Use only the recommended spark plugs in the user manual during warranty period.

1. Ironically the overtightening was done at the free serviceOriginally posted by Natfx7 View PostCAUTION: If your bike is still under warranty then don't mess with this , give it to the Bajaj service. Use only the recommended spark plugs in the user manual during warranty period.
2. Warranty is still intact.
3. The irritating sound is mysteriously gone.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.

Re: Spark Plugs
I want to replace my UNIS spark plug, according to this site the bosh twin electrode was found to be good for the uni over the iridium ix- http://nexgenbikes.com/site/2011/03/...-normal-stock/
Should I go for the ngk g power or the Bosch twin electrode? I ride about 25-30 km a day. And also the ngk site doesn't show a part number for iridium ix for uni, does that mean its not available for my bike?
Edit- I bought my bike about 2 years ago used at 33.5k, now its 41.5k and I've not changed the plug since I bought it coz my mech said its fine, but what ice noticed is that my bike has a bosh spark(single electrode) plug whereas the company recommended is champion or ngk, so the old owner has installed it, is that why I'm having cold start issues and low engine response?Last edited by sinnerz2000; 06-23-2013, 03:16 AM.
