So, the NGK Iridiums do hold well for a long time!

You are most defanite not to find any improvements in performance & mileage. That too on a Unicorn. You might get to reach your top speed in a subtly better manner though - due to much less number of misfires a GPower plug generates over a regular plug. That again might be subtle enough for you not to notice it. Plug's life would be longer and you might see improvement in cold starts.Originally posted by neville_kc View PostDo I need to change the stock spark plug (Bosch) in my Unicorn which has done some 12K+ kms...

Here is a story. My Victor's plug needed a replacement. Got an NGK Nickel one. Ran for 100 KMs (cold starts have improved and response to throttle was better - the old plug was in a bad stage) and then shifted to GPower. Cold starts became lot bettwr. The engine doesn't die out at cold starts even if I don't hold the choke or twist the throttle.
After I used the GPower for about 500-700 KMs I switched back to the 100 KMs used regular NGK for a day. That is when I realised that there is a good difference in bike's pickup. The GPower was defanitely distinctively better.
But then, on my R15, even an Iridium doesn't show any difference. Similarly, I hardly find difference on my R15 with any petrol I fill in. But on the Victor I get to know about bad petrol very quickly. Basically, the R15 or the refined Japanese engines might not let you feel those subtle differences the spark plugs can make. We hardly found differences on a ZMA with an Iridium Plug, initially. Only when the ZMA was taken on to an open highway & pushed to the limits that we got to know that the engine responds better at higher speeds and does a few more KMPH. We are now testing the same ZMA with stock plug back in. Both the plugs have now done approx 6K KMs. Gotta take it to the Highway.
BTW, I have seen my friends' Uni's with NGK plugs. Does Honda give Bosch plugs also??? I'm a little surprised.
If you check the Unicorn's Manual, the spark plug change interval would be mentioned. Unless you are a pure uncle rider, in my opinion it helps changing the plug at or not much later than the prescribed interval.Last edited by HydBiker; 05-13-2009, 11:42 PM.

Thanks for the link, that was very useful!Originally posted by sarbanoxley View Post
I own an RTR FI and in the partfinder catalog, there's only "Apache" under TVS; no separate RTR FI. Does that apply to FI too? Because I remember reading somewhere that FI vehicles need sparkplugs with resistors or something like that, and if they are non-resistive ones, they may damage the ECU and other electronic components. (Could someone please explain about this?) So the Iridium IX plug mentioned for "Apache" - is the same one recommended for FI or a different one? Please help! Anyone using it in their RTR FIs??
I need a CR7HIX (for my dad's Splendor which is due sparkplug replacement) and one for my RTR FI (the one mentioned for 'Apache' is CR7EIX).
Where can I buy these in Bangalore? What will be the approximate cost of an Iridium IX plug and a G-Power plug?

Non resistor type plugs are illegal in India now.
All Fiero based engines = all Fiero's & Apache's use the same plug - CR7E.
MRP: CR7E = Rs 75; CR7EGP = Rs 140; CR7EIX = Rs 550.

I didn't get that much discountOriginally posted by HydBiker View Post^^^ at what cost?
The distributor in Hyd is giving at about 13-15% less on MRP. Got Iridiums for Rs 475.
He gave each one for Rs. 50 off, so Rs. 500/- each. In his sheet which had all the model numbers and prices, I saw that the he was getting them at ("Dealer Price") Rs. 464/- each.

Try selling it back to someone.
You may contact your city's car modders. They typically don't advise it for most cars - recommend Iridium only for high compression where it can really help. (I know from similar friends)
With due respect, putting it in splendor is total waste of money. Ditto most Indian bikes. Putting it in phoren bikes may help - not in ours.
PS: I have not seen any benefit from friends who had used it. I am open to being proven wrong!!http://www.bikenomads.com/wiki/index.php/Leh - All you ever need to know about getting Leh'd.

Where can i get the GPower spark plug in hyderabad.
and any other plugs suitable for ambition which improves performance & mileage and whats the price and one more query is that at traffic signals when the bike is ideal then the engine gets off. I drove 400kms after getting it serviced. what the problem might be is this effect of spark plug ??Last edited by ketansrihas; 05-27-2009, 03:30 PM.--------
