Re: Convert AC/DC bike to ALL DC.
Then you have no choice rather than taking it to a good electrician. Get it done from a reputed shop. The wiring changes I guess including RR unit. Just a suggestion, check if any other yamaha's coil would be a direct fit - like how most of us use an Avenger's coil on PulsarOriginally posted by black asp View Post
I understand that completely. Did you try tipping any of them in a friendly manner? Sometimes that works!Originally posted by black asp View Post

Re: Convert AC/DC bike to ALL DC.
No buddy no good the stator is too much strung up to provide enough power even while travelling on twin high beams in b2b traffic the horn starts squeaking so to load this already fatigued stator with an additional 55w of fog lamp will not help me and as far the svc guys are concerned the yam guys in bhubaneswar are dumb f***ed moronsOriginally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostI feel that there is lot of science and mechanics involved in design of automobiles. Manufacturers know best on what is reliable and how much juice they could extract from their products. Probably they felt the lighting is good enough.
I do understand your urge to upgrade
for better lighting. Then please take it to a service center and let them know your requirement. They may even advice you against it. Tell them your job demands more of driving in the night under street lights and get opinion about your idea of rewinding. Then I am sure they will give you suggestions.
Why not try adding additional/fog lamps mate?
they know nothing good about the bikes internals all they know is engine oil change filter change and other basics forget the complex electricals they even cant properly align the reflectors and adjust the light beams. So this is the reason iam thinking of a stator upgrade

Re: Convert AC/DC bike to ALL DC.
Is your ride still under warranty? Even if it is not, I suggest you to pause the thoughts of rewinding and use more powerful bulbs like Phillips, Osram, etc., You will see a lot of difference. Search for threads and you'll find many BHPians have already tried it here.Originally posted by black asp View PostHi

How to rewind it if possible any special gauge wires and any fixed number of turns that need to be winded??
If the winding is complete what RR to use? can i use the ape RR we commonly use for all ac to dc conversions
What will be the side effects of this RR in my r15??
Will the RR be a direct fit on my r15 what other mods need to be done
Thanks

Re: Convert AC/DC bike to ALL DC.
From the pic you've posted, your coil appears to be a single phase and even if it isn't then I think it should get converted to single phase after rewinding it. Did the firm manage to get it rewinded? Else, you can have it returned back to you and try to get help from a local shop who does motor winding works. If your power requirement isn't much then initially just get the ground removed so that you get a full wave and use the APE RR. You can try to get it rewinded later if you still require more power. Could you tell me the part number of your Piaggio APE rectifier?
Btw, can anyone share their inputs regarding the working of Piaggio APE rectifier? I installed APE RR but it doesn't charge my battery. RR output is fine when I tested by connecting it to a 100/90 halogen bulb, but for some reason it stops giving output when it detects the presence of a battery. Is there a possibility that I got a bad RR? Mine has 6 wires so I don't know if the additional 2 wires are creating a problem (the additional two wires are disconnected) but from what saw here, most members are using APE RR with only 4 wires.

Re: Convert AC/DC bike to ALL DC.
Thanks a lot Abhishek.1 for your suggestion.Anyway,i don't understand the nitty gritty of automotive electricals. The firm to whom i have sent the stator coil & Ape rr seem to be adamant in their belief that i already have a 3 phase stator coil.A simple google search will tell that it's a 2 phase coil.I have shelved the idea of coil rewinding.Still,i appreciate your willingness to help.Originally posted by abhishek.1 View PostHow many wires do you see coming out of the charging coil? There should be two wires (phase) and of them one might be grounded to the stator body like it was in my case, if it is grounded then you will have to unground it so as to bring it out of the stator. Now the two wires coming out of the charging coil should be connected to the grey wires of the APE RR, black wire of RR to battery negative or ground on chasis and finally the red wire of RR to battery positive terminal for charging and then you are all set.

Re: Convert AC/DC bike to ALL DC.
I am in a peculiar dilemma.I own TVS Apache rtr 160 fi 2008 model. After going through all the materials on the internet regarding coil rewinding & Ape rr i
decided to attempt it on my own.Bought Ape rr & brand new stator coil, but was horribly confused.Came across a firm over the internet who claimed to be
able to do it for me.Couriered both the items to them. But now they tell me it's next to impossible. They have pictures of a rewound Apache rtr 160 coil on
the internet, but i am told it can't be done with 160 fi.How could that be possible ? I also have pics of the coil & rr.Somebody please suggest a way to do it.

Re: Convert AC/DC bike to ALL DC.
connect the ape rr yellow wire to battery +ve and black to the chasis or battery negative.Originally posted by Srinivas sr143sr View PostAfter a long search in my city. Atlast found the APE RR...!!! But i had to struggle for getting it
I went to the APE show room (Malakpet) where they directed me to the service centre (malakpet), there the people said that the movement of that part isvery less and they get only in 1:1 ratio if they reuire it. Sothey gave me an address (Ramnagar) and said it will be available. I headed to the service center and i have asked for the RR...!!!
Now the bullshit story has started,... there's a fool sitting in the counter showed me the old APE RR with 4 wires and asked me whether is it the one i wanted. I was in joy in finding the old APE RR. The piece which was shown to me is a piece for testing which was with dust, a bend in one of its fins and a worn out wire with copper visible...!!!
I said ok and asked to give me the sealed/original piece...!!!
He said its the original one and it comes in bundle with 5 pieces and it will not be in cover..!!!!!
After searching a lot in XBHP with having 2 to 3 APE RR's parts numbers and all members showing with covers, for his answer i was like WTF....!!!!!!

I literally got angry, mad and whatever you may say.... i said i know about this part and i am sure that it will come in cover...!!!!! I also added for a spare which costs above 1000 RS will the company send in loose...???
He said if it comes in cover and i bring this part to him in a cover, he will give it for free to me..!!!
And said this part is not available here and you can search out side..!!! I was in a mad state after hearing his words...!!!

After having a long relation with my bike and knowing how a costlier part/spare comes, I LITERALLY said "Are you ready for it..??? can you give me in a written form that you will give this part...???"
By hearing my argument, the cashier asked Sir, Do you have any problem..?? I said the whole thing. Sir its not possible to give like that and asked me to wait and he has sent a guy to check. The boy returned with a new part in a sealed cover but not in ''APE PIAGGIO'' cover, I have inspected it and it seemed to be OK.
The one who had argued with me remained in silent..!!!
Please help for remaining process.. Relays, Fuses or anything..!!
Guys please help..!!! Thanks in advance..!!!
if you are going for 55/60 watts then relay would be required and rerouting of some wires first reroute headlight switch wire to ignition switch battery +ve wire.
as for the ape rr why you didn't mail the customer care.Last edited by rprathin; 06-10-2013, 05:15 PM.

Re: Convert AC/DC bike to ALL DC.
yes the wires are very thick but still if you can take out from the stator than no problem.Originally posted by Srinivas sr143sr View PostHi,
I have completed winding. Tried to wind as many rounds as possible. Please comment on my winding. Tomorrow i will enquire at the APE showroom for RR.
My fingers pained like hell and got cuts too... But now i am OK
Final winding and soldering
How is my winding...?? I have tried max that no copper wires are touching in between poles. Used varnish two coats. I was unable to count the number of turnings...
Stuck at the wires. I have the following wire. Can i use 2.5sqmm wires for Stator to RR.??? or it is too big. please comment
Thanks,
Srinivas
