its great to see ppl coming in front to use Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40.

Believe me, from around 200 km on it, I can tell you this is better than any semi-synthetic. The oil is as it was.. light golden.

You can try it. It suits your recommendation. Will clean up any gunk from your engine.

Do let us know about this oil. Is it just me who is all praise for this oil.. lets see.

Well, it is not about speeds of 100-125 kmph. Those Volvo buses would be doing those speeds at 4000-5000 rpm at the max whereas your motorcycle would do it at 9000-10,000 rpm, depending on which one you got. You compare them on rpm basis and not on speeds.

These diesel oils may not be able to handle sheer in the transmission side, as the same oil will be used by your gearbox too. Diesel/automotive oils do not have additives for gearboxes as gearboxes are separate in cars, trucks etc. For that, gear oil/grease is used.

Diesel oils may have friction modifiers too, (particularly if they are 10WX) which may result in clutch slippage.

All said and done. It is your money, your motorcycle, use what you feel like.

As far as I am concerned, I wont use these oils meant for diesels in my motorcycle, even though my motorcycle has a separate clutch and gearbox.

But as it is an API SM oil, it is most probably a SS oil (API SN are essentially FS). Motul considers esters as Synthetic but Group III as mineral. This oil may have some Group III in it. Otherwise, its very difficult to get a 15W50 range from a pure mineral!

Dont know about the availability of Motul 3000 in the market. This is available at Royal Enfield Service Centers. My motorcycle is using it, so I know. Saw the manufacturing date on the Motul drum as March 2012.

Thin oils are also available from Elf, like Total Quartz 0W30 and 5W30.

with 'thick' he didn't meant the grade. Elf's 20w40 oil itself is thicker than most 20w40. One can tell this by the response of bike after oil change.

SAE tells us about flow of the oil at various temperatures.

One more property is not explained by these agencies.. Thats 'Stickiness'.

At same temperature different oils are having different stickiness.

Take two identical glass plates and incline them at the same angle. Now add two drops of 20W40 grade oil.. 1) Lal Ghora 20W40 from HP 2) Castrol Active 20w40 3) Yamalube 20W40

I bet lal ghora will come down in a flash, followed by castrol (the flow and color of these oils - Lal Ghora and Castrol Active is so similar that I consider these are same, Castrol buys a lot of lube from HPCL - May be both are same) then Yamalube.

Dont know where will the Elf fall amongst these grades. But as per Pinakiji's observations.. I think it will be somewhere near to Yamalube.

I can run the experiment with video if someone bet for it.

Just for your info.. Mobil Delvac 15W40 is very sticky and doesnt come out of the bottle easily. I had troubles taking out 1l from my 5l pack. Forcing me to believe that the Additive package is responsible for stickiness of the oil.

muztariq-ji, which is best for long life of engine. Iam not interested in quick acceleration / performance. Just regular commuting and to keep the engine ticking in top condition for a really long time.
