well, that oil sounds really good but the thing is it may not be available everywhere and of course its higher cost (for people like me)

    • Guys one small doubt... Why do 10W40 grade synthetic oil vaporize so quickly.

it depends from bike to bike, user to user. there are bikes in which there's no noticeable vaporisation and there are bikes in which even a 20w50 Fs oil can vaporise fully in less than half the recommended change interval..Most probably the cause behind is larger clearance at piston rings with regard to the smaller and even molecules of an FS oil.

so in case of Fazer which is better... Motul 15w50 300v double ester or motul 20w50 7100 single ester... better means... less evaporation ... recommended grade is 20w40-20w50

for less evaporation my take would be 20w50 single ester 7100. But i have not used any FS oil so can't tell exactly.

            • I regularly use castrol 20W40 mineral oil for my bike. But after hearing a lot on counterfeit castrol products, yesterday i purchased valvoline champ 4t 20W40 which is a synthetic blend. I purchased 1 ltr can for Rs 210 where as castrol is available at Rs260. Not sure on smoothness of the engine but there seems to be good improvement in the gear shifts. Its lot smoother now.

Can the experts advice if the move to valvoline is good. If not please suggest a good one.

I'm using the very same oil. Its way better than that castrol activ. For me its best oil, considering its price. I mean it costs 200rs(to me) and performs more or less like motul/gulf which sells around Rs250.

I discussed this with mechanic today and he explained the logic of mixing two oils and it will be used for gear box only .
Now I am clear that 20W50 being a multi grade oil will behave as SAE20 oil on zero degree temperature and SAE50 on hundred degree temperature. So this will be too thin at the starting of engine and bike will run hotter.

I am some how like the idea of 70% SAE40 + 30% EP 90 oil.
I am no longer familiar with the specs of the Jawa's engine but if it is of any help - SAE40 engine oil is of the same viscosity as SAE90 gear oil . You can use either(other than the mixture) since your are just mixing two same viscosity oils . Difference is that the EP additives content in the SAE90(GL4) manual gear oil is better for gearboxes .

As already apologized for the confusion . Actually I din have much knowledge about two-stroke engines hence I have posted in wrong thread. I have gone through service manual for jawa yesterday and found that 2 stroke engines do not need engine oil for lubrication . The lubrication is done by the 2T additive in the fuel itself.

The oil i should have mentioned should be gear oil and not engine oil. The gear oil is used for two reasons : lubricating gear box and clutch plates by splash method.
I will share more details of oil grade after discussing it with other jawa/yezdi owners.
                      Thanks people for the replies.

yeah semi synthetic is fine , but check out the warranty terms and conditions of your bike ? just check if your warranty voids if you switch from ASC oil to semi synthetic oil

I am not sure on how can we identify counterfeit products. But i am hearing a lot about it on castrol products and do not want to take any chances. So i moved to Valvoline.

If you are regularly changing oil and the new oil becomes pitch black in 500 kms.. its cheap oil. Even if its not counterfeit!

I think you can look up castrol website and find out authorised stores or you can buy it from reliance autozone.

I am sure you can find out a distributor and ask him for the details , if possible you can find out from the distributor himself
