don't think too much. There shouldn't be any noticeable damage. Just use the recommended grade. Change mineral & semi-synth oils at 2000-2500 kms max and for full synth its 5000 kms max (sooner would be good for your bike but definitely not for you pocketOriginally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View Post

I would call it a good break in performed.. Its high time to shift to normal recommended grade. Use any oil that you feel comfortable with.. recommendations from fellow 200NS owners would be nice to start off your experimentation to find a comfortable oil for your bike.Originally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View PostHello folks! I own a pulsar 200 NS and I've completed 3100 on the odo. It's run for about 2000 kms on shell semi synthetic 10w40. But the manufacturer recommends 15w50 or 20w50. Now I'll steadily change the oil to the right grade but now that it's run so much on the wrong oil, what can I expect from my engine?

There is nothing wrong in using a 10w40, unless you've maintained the ideal run-in procedures, not redlining, uneven gear shifts etc. But it'd be wise idea you get your oil changed to the manufacturer recommended grade which 15w50. It just gives you peace of mind!Originally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View PostHello folks! I own a pulsar 200 NS and I've completed 3100 on the odo. What can you expect from your engine? Bliss, what else. Keep riding.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Well yesterday I did about 150 kms at a constant 7-8k rpm. I just hope the extreme heat hasn't taken it's toll.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostThere is nothing wrong in using a 10w40, unless you've maintained the ideal run-in procedures, not redlining, uneven gear shifts etc. But it'd be wise idea you get your oil changed to the manufacturer recommended grade which 15w50. Well, it's like cat on the wall. If you were to do that same thing on a two stroke, it would have been a different story. But thanks to modern technology, today's machines do take the extremes pretty well. But still they do have their breaking point. Don't worry. Just go by the manual and have fun!Originally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View Post

if you're still using/ plan to use 10w40 for oil's life than don't exceed ~5k rpm. And about yesterday's ride, let me calm you down.. NS has water cooled engine.. So it 'may' get away with damages and stands safer than air cooled ones, IMO. Better you change to xxW50 asap.Originally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View PostWell yesterday I did about 150 kms at a constant 7-8k rpm. I just hope the extreme heat hasn't taken it's toll.

Sorry for the killjoy bud, but water cooled, air cooled, oil cooled, any engine without oil is gonna get cooked! Yes, any engine without oil. It's done for, engine oil is to lubricate (primary) and then to take off some of the heat(secondary) , so without that just the cooling system is no good.
OT: NS is water cooled ? Liquid cooled is the word you are searching for.

C'mon guys just trying to cool him down. Btw, no one's running w/o oil.. in that case even liquid nitrogen won't help.. . @Krish, liquid as in liquid cooled is a mix of anti-freeze (also called coolent by mechanics) and water, mostly in 1:2 ratio. Me being the el cheapo guy
being using only water in radiators (also because we don't see temperatures below 5'C).. So it just came out as water cooled instead. Btw, water is liquid..

HH Karizma's recommended engine oil from2003 to 2006 was 20 W 40....then suddenly HH changed to 10 W 30 without any change in the engine ....The newer bikes still run without issues, except for quick heating of engine. A thicker oil is warranted where ambient temperature is hot ie., not less than 25 C, or when tolerance of moving part is marginally more.
The Newer Car engines have also shifted from w 50 to w 40 ....In the case of air cooled engines the engine heat is going to be more, and hence a better oil is warrated.
Apart from this due to the enforcement of stricter Emission norms, Catalytic converters are now regularly used in all bikes and to protect them, one of the most important friction reducing additive ZDDP is being removed from the oil composition, and leads to much quicker Rocker,Valve stem, Piston rings, and moving parts wear.
Only certain Diesel oils still have ZDDP in them..When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

Hi guys,
So I had given my bike for servicing in a Honda Authorised Service Centre (my dealer's only) and because they only stock 10W30 and I use 20W40, I told them to not do an oil change since I would do it myself. The person there then asked me to add Nulon and I again refused saying that I put in good quality Shell Oil so not to do anything with the engine oil at all. Again I specifically told him no Nulon treatment please!!!!
Well guess what, the stupid buggers added the Nulon and charged me Rs125 (w/Tax) for it
. I was pissed off and obviously I fought with them and told them that bullshit I had told them to not add anything and yet they added Nulon and are now freaking charging me for it! Things got heated up, had to talk to the manager and they said they are sorry and they will add in a free minor service which equals to a free bike wash here. Pacified a little bit, I paid-up and went back home.
Now the oil that I had was 1800kms old, I was planing to change it at 2000 since it was starting to show signs of ageing. By ageing oil I mean harshness was creeping in, clunky gear changes, increased warm up times to list a few. But believe it or not after adding the Nulon, the oil is feeling like brand new! Seriously, all signs of ageing have gone, bike has become much more smoother, as smooth as it gets with brand new oil..!! Now I am sure they have not done an oil change cause otherwise they would have definitely charged me for it. What I am not being able to understand is how has the engine become so smooth??? Is it because of the Nulon?
BTW They also adjusted the valve clearances in this service. But my bike has been with me for a long time and I know the difference between smoothness which comes due to adjusting valve clearances and smoothness which comes in due to new engine oil. And I can categorically say that Nulon is definitely having an effect. It might be the case that the smoothness can be attributed more to adjusting valve clearances rather than Nulon, but I feel that Nulon is definitely doing something in there which is making things smoother!
I have done about 50-60kms after Nulon, things are still seeming good, and I will change oil after around 150kms more. Will keep you guys posted. In the meantime I just want to ask whether other people have also experienced this smoothness after Nulon treatment? I know that most people add Nulon with brand new oil and then attribute the smoothness to new oil. But has anyone like me added Nulon to old oil and felt new smoothness? FYI I have never added Nulon before to my engine oil.
I read up a bit on Nulon online and the company says that you can add Nulon at any point of time in the engine oil cycle. New oil, old oil, does not matter. And whereas I read a lot of people saying that this is just a marketing gimmick, I also read a lot of testimonials which agree with my experience in places like TeamBHP. The internet is filled with proofs which shows that Nulon is awesome and Nulon is bullshit. Which is why I rely on my own common sense and experience. This time I feel Nulon is definitely being awesome rather than bullshit. I will add Shell AX5 20W40 in 150kms and am planning to repeat my procedure to see if Nulon actually works. Will report the results when things get done.
Thanks for reading!

Nice piece of info, but could you shed some light as to why, is it so?Originally posted by psr View PostHH Karizma's recommended engine oil from2003 to 2006 was 20 W 40....then suddenly HH changed to 10 W 30 without any change in the engine ....The newer bikes still run without issues, except for quick heating of engine. Thanks! I have now changed to Castrol Power1 4T 10w50 fully synthetic. But I don't understand one thing. Why is it given that this oil is of 10w40 grade in some sites and 10w50 in others on the internet? Am I using the original?Originally posted by Honda_CBF View Postif you're still using/ plan to use 10w40 for oil's life than don't exceed ~5k rpm. And about yesterday's ride, let me calm you down.. Different sites or different countries? Don't trust any other website than the company website, because not all that's out there is valid info. Where did you get the oil from? Maybe that can give an idea as to whether it's genuine or not. That said, Castrol and many other brands are being faked, too much so that, you can't know the difference. Since Castrol has been a niche in India for a long time, it has made grassroot fakers to establish their business too. There is even fakes in Power1 as I read from one user, but as I said, not all info you need is true necessarily.Originally posted by Aditya N Bharadwaj View PostThanks! Same is the case with Bajaj. They use their additive called "Bardhal" that is the additives they use along the engine oils, which they claim, increase engine life, reduce harshness and all the nitties you said above. But that much of a difference from Bardhal? Nope, I didn't get any! The same was the case with many Pulsar owners here in my hometown. Maybe it works like Batman, works when it detects some problem and then goes back to sleep, I for hell sake don't knowOriginally posted by plasmabhai View PostHi guys,
