  • I think I have decent amount of knowledge about bikes. But when it comes to engine oil Im a total noob since I never cared for them and used mineral oil whatever SVC/Mechanic suggested, mostly castrol.Coming to my noob question, my Stunner has done 7000 kms. I am fed of poor Honda SVC guys so would service it at a good mechanic nearby. He suggested me to put 10W40 grade SS engine oil. Does it suit Stunner? what does 10 and 40 actually mean? Does it have any effect on FE? He said service intervals of 2.5k kms for mineral and 3.5k kms for SS and SS is better for engine life. Also he said FS not required for a commuter bike like Stunner.
    Whats there in a signature?

      • Thank You Muztariq sir, that was really helpful. I am getting 40-42kmpl mileage on not so very trafficky conditions. And Stunner vibrates badly above 60. Hope it will help. So shall I put 10W40 instead of mineral oil or 10W30 right? And is 3500kms okay for 10W40 SS? Also they are castrol dealers also so is castrol SS fine or shall I go for Shell only?
Another questn sorry off-thread, is changing front sprocket okay for Stunner as the gearing is quite low?

Shell AX7 10w40 is what would be my suggestion. Any other 10W40 bike oil will also be good (big no for castrol.. They are the sponsers of the site.. but sorry, I dont like castrol at all)

Changing sprocket to a bigger one would help you reduce the vibes above 60 and also solve the short gearing.. but I dont have info on the sproket teeths on stunner and whether any other is available. Looking and discussing on the sprocket thread may help.

drain it after 2000kms. dont exceed 2500kms. though you may sometime feel like it can be stretched to 3000kms. Valvoline costs less than Rs350. And it feels pretty similar to motul 5100. Valvoline premium 4t is the best VFM oil a pulsar guy can have. IMO.

I've personally used 5100 and Valvoline, though I changed the latter at 2000 KM to be precise, not that oil is not worthy, I happen to change my clutch so I changed it along the go. But a good proposition would be 2500 max.

5100 using in my 220, used it for 3.5K KMS without a hiccup. On my third trimster of Motul 5100 with no problem whatsoever

                Cheers!

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                  • Managed to do only 200 Kms so far with Rimula R3X engine oil..Bike revs like it has 10w30 and a mild tappet noise I had before this oil, had now become difficult to hear.....No difference in FE,and Plug continues to run clean..(though this oil has 1.4 % Sulphated Ash )

                    • Guys my bike(Pulsar 135-LS) has clocked 2500 kms in about one and a half years. (I know its pretty low for this much time. But I left home soon after it was bought.) .
The engine oil that I used after the first serveice was Bajaj 20W50. Thats why I want to change it now.

Would this be the right time to change it?

I am confused between two oils. Motul 7100 and Motul 300V.. Please suggest. the recommended oil is 20W50 for Pilsar 135.

No, you can change to FS anytime after 1000 kms. If the usage is less than 4000 km in 6 months, just use SS oils like Motul 5100 15w50 and change every 2500 kms/4 months. That would be enough.

If the usage is extensive with frequent high rpm rides.. nothing can beat Motul 300V 15w50 in performance.

Thanks Muztariq! Actually the usage was less until a few days back... From now onwards it is going to be pretty high.. Which engine oil should I go with then?

Another small doubt .... as the recommended engine oil for P135 is 20W50, would Motul 7100 not be a better choice over Motul 300V??

                            • Really this is a good thread. Oil is vital to the operation of your motorcycle and operates in three ways: reducing internal friction, cooling the components of the motor, and flushing the motor of debris. Oil lubricates the moving parts in the motor, preventing metal parts from coming into direct contact with each other.

sir, I used to think that this sulphated ash deposits will only occur if oil gets burned.. Or am I missing something?? And is there any benefit of having sulphated ash in engine oil? Thanks in advance!
