Re: Engine Oils
Guys,Small doubt... Does motul 5100 make the bike slower??? I mean in terms of acceleration and topspeed?? Many 200NS complain about this problem. Dunno how far its true. Btw I own R15 V2 and using 5100. I dunno whether it made mine slower or not. Any opinions ???

Re: Engine Oils
Yes mine is recommended grade 15w50. But for NS recommended is 20w50.. So 15W500should be looser than stock oil. Right??? Or am wrong ?Originally posted by sinnerz2000 View PostJust make sure ur using the recommended grade for ur bike

Re: Engine Oils
You should mainly be worried aboud the Wxx figures, as it would be the grade of oil achieved at working temperature or at 100 degrees. About the xxW figure, its good to go as long as its equal of smaller to the recommended. Infact, with lower numbers you will get a better range... and it will also help you with cold starts....Originally posted by siddharthsure View PostYes mine is recommended grade 15w50. Re: Engine Oils
After i tried almost all semi synthetic oils on my Fz16, Everytime W-40 gave me the best performance compared to W-50.
The best oil which suited my Fz was Shell Advance 10w-40 semi synthetic.Royal Enfield Bullet Standard 350cc 1989, Bajaj Avenger 200-2009, Pulsar 200 NS 2015.

If its the recommended xxWxx oil, then its good, if not, then change it immediately as it can cause some serious damage to the engine in long run my friend!!!Originally posted by Touseef Ahmed Mohammed View PostAfter i tried almost all semi synthetic oils on my Fz16, Everytime W-40 gave me the best performance compared to W-50.

Re: Engine Oils
That's because xxW40 is thinner than xxW50, what's the recommended grade for fz? W-50 is high for a 150cc bikeOriginally posted by Touseef Ahmed Mohammed View PostAfter i tried almost all semi synthetic oils on my Fz16, Everytime W-40 gave me the best performance compared to W-50.

FZ has both 20w40 and 20w50 recommendation as per owners manual. And only 20w50 as per service manual.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostFZ has 20W40 recommendation.
Cheerz!!
Regarding your query on FZ thread, I dont think you should lose sleep on the issue. 5100 is a good oil and R15 oil that you have been using may be slightly less thick but more or less same performer as Motul 5100. With time the ride quality would improve.

Re: Engine Oils
Don't want to add any more confusion on this thread but just would like to state my experience of 17,000 kms and still on the go with Motul 300V 15W 50. As per the user manual the recommended grade for 2010 model Yamaha FZ16 was 20W 40. I decided to try one of the costliest oils available even by the market standards 3 years back and the results have not been disappointing. On stock form i have pushed the 300V to 5000 kms and then chickened out of going any further with the experiment on my ride. Majority of my riding during the first 12,000 kms involved long distance highway runs and at the most my engine had consumed in between service intervals with a fresh stock was 60ml and that's about it. The main reason behind shifting to such 300V was to increase the drain interval sighting touring requirements and also keeping other benefits into consideration.
The engine temps had reduced drastically even on high speeds runs and smoothness and vibrations were more or less non existent.
If i remember correctly some of the FZ riders had issues with the 300V oil at a later part which makes me arrive to a few queries:
* Howcome the same engine oil which works wonders on my ride doesn't work well on others even if the bike is manufactured by the same company with no changes to the engine oil grade specifications??
* Is the engine response towards a particular brand of oil also dependant on the proper care and servicing being carried out at right intervals as per the manual?? My ride before it was souped up, had done 26,000 kms and before we dismantled her old heart, we did a compression test and she had not lost any of it, nor changes in the oil quantity nor any visible signs of oil leaking through the piston rings. Hence the confusion.
I am currently running Motul 300V on a souped up bike and have covered 3400 kms so far. The engine oil still looks new and has not lost its sticky properties. Will provide an update how long does it survive with such a modded engine.
@muztariq: How did your experiment with diesel based engine oil go? Sorry i have not been following this thread or the ownership thread much. What is the maximum kms you were able to pull before needing to change the Delvac series oil (if i remember correctly??). Your inputs are awaited.
Cheers,A quote by a toilet, " use me well, keep me clean, i would never tell anybody whatever i have seen.." :P

Cheerz!!I have been to a Motul warehouse and there is the same brand Motul manufactured in India, and you can clearly see it on the back of their label, the oil clearly states manufactured in India. I personally think Motul wouldn't in their right minds let the higher spec oil to be manufactured in India. Yes as you can see in those other lesser grade cans they are clearly taking strides in manufacturing it in India to keep the costs low, low 20w40 and 10w40 grades. But still it could be a good oil for most of the bikes out the desi bikes out there.Originally posted by forceedge View PostEven if the process is all about repacking, then also there are chances that the quality will take a hit... Adulteration, consistency, changes in quantity, quality control has always been an issue with our local manufacturers/re-packers...
Originally posted by sandeepcf View PostThis is true for diesel engines. The oil turns black with in 100kms.
For petrol engines If within few kms means less than 500kms, then there is a problem with the piston clearance because the combustibles are entering the oil chamber too much. I observed this blackening thing in my Unicorn which clocked 70K kms.Very true. Trust me, even after using the 5100 and 3100 I still remember the oil turning to a muddly color only after 700+ KM upward. But even at times when I service the bike, the oil in the pane still looked as fresh oil and this is what helped me to extend the drain interval to 4.2k close.Originally posted by muztariq View Post300V or 8100/6100 ? Make your choice :
Oil choice depends on your use :
300V are especially designed for racing, Motul is providing to end-
consumers the lubricants set up for the teams : that is to say that the
products you can find on the shop shelves are the same as products used
by the teams for races.

I cant guarantee about other racing brands.. but 300V is of the shelf racing oil.
Oil blackening is two faced sword:
If you are regularly changing oil and when you put a fresh oil, if the oil turns pitch black(in a petrol engine) within 200 kms.. there is a problem with the oil.
FS oils do not turn black even after 2000 km on a normal motorcycle.. they dont clean? If a poorly refined oil is used, it would turn black in no time.
Exactly one of my friend uses it in his Apache 180 and so far it seemed to be performing well. Though it costs close to 750 bucks and it ain't cheap. Try getting it from a genuine reseller and you should be just fine. There is quite a number of cottage industries that survive by manufacturing a pesudo version of this oil. So just make sure you get it from the right guy, and the oil is just as good as the Motul 5100.Originally posted by albyjose View PostHow good is castrol power 1 10w40?

The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
