Re: Engine Oils
To add something....
The main reason for the motorcycle oil to be drains so fast is because, it circulates in engine, clutch and gearbox. This adds enormous stress and pressure on the oil which makes it difficult to use it for longer kms. The sump capcity of the bike is very less than that of a car. In case of cars, the oil has to protect only the engine. So, the severity in cars is very less as compared to bike oils. Also, the additives used for bike oil is different then that of cars oil. The VII polymer used in both oils are same.

Re: Engine Oils
@ muztariq. Agree with what you say. So, would it not be correct to agree that start stop driving causes greater deterioration of oil in the crankcase, synthetic oils are beyter at withstanding this, and to be safe, it is always better to change oil based on manufacturer's recommended intervals OR change the iil after a detailed oil analysis before adopting an extended drain interval?
To add something: over a period of time there are little changes in the base oil. It is the aditives:detergents, VII and friction modifiers that give up the ghost. It is possible to clean used oil using the capillary method and reuse clean oil thus obtained as machine oil or as a straight oil in the engine, although it will have very little of the properties that we expect from a modern engine oil.Last edited by shaanbirdman; 08-02-2013, 11:36 AM.

Re: Engine Oils
Stop go traffic does not deteriorate oil that much, only to some extent. But repeatedly doing very short distance driving and excessive idling come under extreme/severe condition which should be treated with engine oil replacement before the specified intervals. Whether you are in a small city or a very big one.. stop go traffic is everywhere. Dont start changing oil too short because of this.Originally posted by shaanbirdman View Post@ muztariq. Re: Engine Oils
Agreed.an excellent document that illustrates what I meant. In any case, no point changing oil before recommended interval. Its only extending the drain interval that needs attention and care

These two are excellent reads to understand most of what needs to be known about oil as a user.. well maybe slightly more than that.

Re: Engine Oils
There's no such thing as a best oil. Yeah, but there is something called RIGHT GRADE. And good brand. And how your choice of how reputed your retailer is happens to be your responsibilty. Those are the things to keep in mind basically. If you get these three things right, your life is set. Pretty basicOriginally posted by Night_Shade View PostHi,
I want to know which is the best oil for karizma R 2007 model?
Technically 10W40 works out best most of the times with Karizmas. I would avoid W50 grades. Not needed really, except in summer in your place jaipur, as the climate is more extreme there. Semi synthetic is great and if the Motul 5100 10W40 becomes easily available, I'd vote for that as ultimate. Three good brands I would suggest is 1)Motul, 2)Veedol, 3)Shell. In 10W40 avataar.
I'm using Motul 7100 10W40 fully synthetic. Par excellence. Also used Veedol Super Swift semi-synthetic and it was awesome. But I worked out that as I change 350/- bucks Veedol every 2k to 2.5k kms, using 7100 fully synthetic at 750/- bucks and draining at 6k-8k kms would work out more or less the same, plus the brilliance of Motul to boot. Actually works out better with Motul!

Re: Engine Oils
Apart from what others have suggested, I would also recommend Wurth Engine oil. It definitely is amazing. I've used it on my P150 2004 and it was excellent. Unfortunately I did not get continuous supply of 1litre of cans. Post that I've been using Gulf Pride which is again excellent VFM.Originally posted by Night_Shade View PostHi,

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.

Re: Engine Oils
Actually its depends on various factors climates conditions then the viscosity of oil will vary, Total Kms in city or highway, budget, Total Km you have completed. Well I have ZMA 2006 and using shell R3x diesel engine oil now no heating issue, smoothness in clutch shifting, less wear and tear, very less vibration and oil do the cleaning duty. The only thing is during accelerating the bike it takes few seconds to get the pick-up. But over all I'm happy. In winter I use different grade oil.Originally posted by Night_Shade View PostHi,
