Re: Engine Oils
Delvac not available either. Moreover, due to puja celebrations, most shops are shut near my area. I'd done 2200 kms already and didn't want any risks. Would be back to diesel next time pakka.Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View Post

Re: Engine Oils
How come a company say that!!? I am surprised. When the manufacturer recommends 20w40 an oil company cant ask anyone to use 15W50 oil. Clearly, manufacturer warranty is voided even before the whole oil goes inside. I mean, you think of it and the warranty goes for a tossOriginally posted by sinnerz2000 View PostHere's the reply I got from shell

P.S this is in reference to their post on FB

The person who was given this suggestion can also drag motul to court for any damage (whether inflicted after or before this!)

Re: Engine Oils
They are surely doing marketing of the product. When i had gone to buy the 20W40 oil of same, i had not seen 15W50 spec. Looks like they have launched it very recently.Originally posted by sinnerz2000 View PostHere's the reply I got from shell

Re: Engine Oils
A higher grade oil may make the engine sluggish but it doesn't harm it in any way, it actually reduces engine wear alot decreases and dampens the vibrations too, maybe that's why they want people to try it. If u noticed they cleverly haven't answered to my question that wouldn't it make the bike sluggish, they've just said it reduces engine wear and heat which is true.Originally posted by muztariq View PostHow come a company say that!!? Even if you're sure enough to drag the folks for a hearing, Motul still has its arse backed up. How? They've clearly said, *TRY* not straight off the line to use it in ones bike. Plus they've never really used the word *use* which in law's hands is a big loophole.
But apart from the above, second the points you've made regarding voiding the warranty.
Cheers!

The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Thats what you and I believe. An oil company cant recommend oil for an equipment that they didnt manufacture.Originally posted by sinnerz2000 View PostA higher grade oil may make the engine sluggish but it doesn't harm it in any way, it actually reduces engine wear alot decreases and dampens the vibrations too, maybe that's why they want people to try it. Nowadays, 0w20 and 5w30 are more favored than 20w40 and 15w40 oils in automobiles. Technology is trying to reduce emissions by reducing viscosity and theses guys are favoring higher spec than the recommended spec.
An example:
FAQs for Oil ProductsWill the use of Mobil 1 void my new-car warranty?
With the exception of the Mazda rotary engine (Mazda does not recommend any synthetic oils), Mobil 1 will not void new-car warranties where an API certified oil is recommended. Mobil 1 meets or exceeds API (American Petroleum Institute) and ILSAC (International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee) motor oil service requirements of all new-car manufacturers, both import and domestic. If in doubt, always check your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer
Isnt it clear that use/no use of a particular oil rests with the manufacturer of the equipment rather than the oil.

Re: Engine Oils
Hmm true, its not common for them to recommend a grade other than the factory specified that's why I put it up here. Does higher grade means more emission?Originally posted by muztariq View PostThats what you and I believe. An oil company cant recommend oil for an equipment that they didnt manufacture.

Re: Engine Oils
For protection against engine wear two specific ingredients, ZDDP and Calcium long chain Alkaryl Sulphonate are required, both of which is no longer present at adequate levels in any Gasoline engine oil ..When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

But we do get ZDDP additives separately in the market right?Originally posted by psr View PostFor protection against engine wear two specific ingredients, ZDDP and Calcium long chain Alkaryl Sulphonate are required, both of which is no longer present at adequate levels in any Gasoline engine oil ..

Re: Engine Oils
Not advisable to put such additives in the oil. Else, its upto ones discretion to use it or not.Originally posted by sinnerz2000 View PostBut we do get ZDDP additives separately in the market right?

Re: Engine Oils
Sir, with due respect, had read on a forum that, one of the guy had mixed boron in his engine oil. Over a period of time he started facing issue witht the engine. When the problem was diagnosed, it was seen that the crankshaft and cylinder walls had some wear issues on it. Although, he was using the recommended grade oil, he used boron since it was marketed as friction reducer and increase in mileage.Originally posted by psr View PostMay I know the reason behind your warning ?

Re: Engine Oils
Boron is a very useful friction reducer. I had used it in my Two cars and Bikes as also in most of my Friend's vehicles without a single complaint...The problem is the Purity and particle size...if there are scratch marks on the bore after use, obviously there must have been impurity in the material used....Originally posted by devils_friend View PostSir, with due respect, had read on a forum that, one of the guy had mixed boron in his engine oil. Re: Engine Oils
But we're talking bout ZDDP which is already present in engine oils not boron, as psr sir is saying the quantity of ZDDP isn't enough in oils these days, so i feel its better to add an additive. But where do we get it is the questionOriginally posted by devils_friend View PostSir, with due respect, had read on a forum that, one of the guy had mixed boron in his engine oil.
