Re: Engine Oils
Oil analysis by using fingers is a useless activity. Give 5 different used oils to an experienced person in the art and ask him to identify which oil has run 40 kms, 400 kms and 4000 kms from just the touch of it. Please also keep a control; brand new oil. I am sure he wont be able to identify 4000 km old oil blindfolded.Originally posted by Honda_abhi View PostThanks for sharing the knowledge.
Thats what I was saying a few days back on this forum. Feel the oil with your fingers. An experienced guy would tell the usability of the oil by touching it.
but beware Divyansh!!. when I had posted this same info on this forum, there was a lot of debate to prove this method wrong.
Anyways. Nice info to go through. Do post some more of such knowledge.
Why dont you take 20 ml samples at regular intervals from your vehicle and use the oil for 4000 kms. Now keep these samples in petriplates and blindfold yourself. Now randomize the samples and identify the 4K oil from a set of 5,6 oils. You would come to know what I mean. Do not forget to top up the oil when you are taking a sample out.
Read this FAQ section from valvolinecummins. It states that if the oil has changed viscosity 'substantially' when checked between fingers, go for oil testing, only after testing the oil decide to change it. FAQ's :: Valvoline ::

The Yezdi Oil king was the first and only motorcycle which had attempted to move away from pre-mixed fuel to a separate oil lube system via an oil pump, my dear friend !!Originally posted by Divyanshp150 View PostIm taking about the gearbox oil brother, being a 2t no engine oil. AND the Oil king was discontinued as it failed miserably. All other yezdis had premixed fuel with sae 50 oil to be added to petrol.

A generalized statement has been issued by oil manufacturing companies that oil shud be changed after every 2K kms and we blindly follow it. Oil companies do this to increase their revenue and we help them by shelling out our hard earned money.Originally posted by muztariq View PostOil analysis by using fingers is a useless activity. My dear Muztariq bhaiyya, even I can identify a difference in a 40 km and 4000 kms old oil. AND I am not an "experienced" person. As far as "blindfolded" is concerned, this is not a compeitition. It is an activity to understand whether the time has come to change the oil.

Yeah im no expert just been doing this for a few years now, and trust me sit with my grandpa someday:P he owned his first vehicle in 1940s and works on them regularly till date, he dosent ride or drive anymore but helps everyone in the village and me and all my unclesOriginally posted by muztariq View PostOil analysis by using fingers is a useless activity. Unfortunately I cant stay with him all throughout the year
Hez having over 70 years experience with cars and bikes and tractors and all:P he can touch oil and tell you about it, trust me. Some guys experience outweighs our knowledge, he cant see much though..,, weak eyes... but he is the best I know. Even the old yezdi factory mech nearby my place is a gem of a guy. Unparalleled experience some guys have man,
yeah maybe I wont be able to touch and feel the oil as well right now, few years down the line hopefully my experience will outweigh my knowledge
(But I dont wana grow old ever
)
I cant question these old timers, they have been rinding longer then I have been breathing, there methods though old are bullet proof. Yeah oil testing and equipment and all that is there but id still prefer experience over knowledge, books can only take one so far.
People are free to choose what they prefer these are old methods I knew of and learnt hence posted.
Sorry if this is offensive to anyone.
Ps:- please tell us where we can go for oil testing here in india, sending oil to usa is......

Re: Engine Oils
you cannot use motul 10w40 . Because company recommends ignitor users to use 10w30.. so don't go above 30.Originally posted by CHINMAY_PATHARE View PostSo which should i use for my ignitor 125cc
fully synthetic or semi synthetic ?
will Honda Racing 4t 10w30 work fine or i shall use Motul 7100 10W40 ?

Re: Engine Oils
A bump.Is there any HDEO oil in Indian market with API CI-4 Plus spec bearing proper API Logo(donut) like JASO's?
I like API's donuts & JASO's biscuits.
A gentle bump. How much?Originally posted by muztariq View PostWhat I was telling about was just the JASO management fee. The testing fee would be very high.
Coz, Motul offers affordable mineral oils with JASO certification. Will add all certified oil available in India later.
Keep us posted buddy.Originally posted by Divyanshp150 View PostVolkswagen does oil analysis for the cars that come in for service, ill be going there someday hopefully will request them to send a sample of my bikes oil too if they agree, im willing to pay for it though...
Found an useful calculator: purely theoretical !Originally posted by SparKot View Post... the MIXING(home-brew).
Motul has only two Semi-Synth oils with JASO-MA2(2011) certification in India, viz:
Motul 5100 10w30
Motul 5100 15w50
an intermediate grade something like 15w40/10w40 is missing...
Anywayz, I would like to brew a mix of above two Semi-Synths to get something between 10w40 - 20w40;

Import-duty(tax collective) on engine-oilsThat's like 30% tax cumulative if I can trust my math skills.Originally posted by kusmaker View PostDuty rates on lubricating oils is as follows
1. 10% basic duty.
2. Landing charge 1% CIF.
3. Countervailing duty 12% Cifd + landing charge.
4. Cess 3% duty + countervailing duty.
5. Additional countervailing duty 4%.
...
Apart from that import duty, we have 14.5% VAT here in Karnataka, that makes 44.5% tax in total; right?
I need another opinion on this taxation info from experienced seniors. @Pinaki , @psr ?

Re: Engine Oils
Don't be confused. Yes, the recommended grade is w30, but it often fails to provide adequate protection in summers at least. Use w40 semi synth without a shadow of a doubt!Originally posted by CHINMAY_PATHARE View PostMany of them suggested me to use 10w 40 !! semi synthetic & are u are suggesting me not to use 10w40
now m confused
