Re: Engine Oils
whats the difference between motul 5100/ss/fs? why should i go for motul 5100 for first 5k and motul ss for next 5k and motul fs after 10k total?Originally posted by Divyanshp150 View PostOne word, rubbish, when compared to the likes of motul, shell, mobil1 etc.
Its better than lal ghoda engine oil
...and fake castrols.
For an ignitor or any hero bike right now, 10w40 in summers is your best friend, best oil that almost every hero owner loves? Shell advance ax7 10w40,
You get motul fs oils in w30 as well.
Warrenty is void if you use any other oil, yet some svcs allow you to get your own oil, ask them about if, if not let them pour in the dtsi, use it for 300 to 500km and drain, then add the oil you like, for example motul.
Now use this oil and go for regular service let them drain motul oil (I doubt they will check if the drained black shit is motul or dtsi oil.)
Repeat!
This method gives you more flexibility on your oil choices and sort of acts like a non detrimental regular engine flush thats good for your bike in the long run,
Unfortunately its a wee bit expensive and time taking.
I just told a 200ns owner the same thing on the 200ns ownership thread.
Ps:- use a moneral or ss oil like motul 3000, 3100 or 5100 till all free services are exhausted then shift to an fs oil or stick with the 5100!
Try any other brand as well if you like them!
Clean centrifugal filter every 5 k kms or so during your oil change if you havent done so already. Labour expenses plus 22rs for clutch cover gasket.
Sorry for the long post guys

Re: Engine Oils
Semi synthetics oil are made by mixing mineral oil with synthetic oil, to give some benefits of a fs oil and with it not being expensive as fs oil, however a large amount of mineral base stocks the oil retains some of the negatives of mineral oil. Full synthetic oils are purely synthetic. As the engine is still new the parts are polishing and rubbing with each other to get right operating clearance, hence more friction and more cutting of metals inside the engine so you need pure lubrication at this point of time nothing else and this only lubrication is provided with standard mineral oil, that’s why it is said thay you should ride sanely and properly during run-in perios, fs have got detergents and additives which can cause clutch to slip if you use it too soon, frankly slipping is not created by fs oil, it occurs due to difference in clutch design in different motorcycles, and due to some fricition modifiers which are added in the oil because of which clutch sometimes slips, but if you are using correct grade of oil recommended by your manufacturer then the clutch shouldn’t slip but for safer side one should use the fs oil after 8 or 9000 kms, because by this time most of the wear and tear has been accomplished by the engine.Originally posted by Infiltrator View Postwhats the difference between motul 5100/ss/fs? why should i go for motul 5100 for first 5k and motul ss for next 5k and motul fs after 10k total?

Re: Engine Oils
Brother, Engine Oil's are never made by mixing two oils together. Mixing different base oils of different groups help differentiate oil in respective categories. Also, irrespective of the base oil used, Additive content in the oil remains same all thru.Originally posted by kusmaker View PostSemi synthetics oil are made by mixing mineral oil with synthetic oil

3100 and 5100 is semi synthetic or ss
7100 and 300c are ester based fs oils
Use a mineral or 3100 for first 5 k, it wil hell your new engine surfaces mate in faster and better, plus no dropping of oil level during summers and evaporation, fs oils are good if your touring etc in cities the do offer protection but then they drop in oil leves faster.
Stick to 5100 all year round imo.

Cheerz!!
Brother iam not trying to say that two oils are made by mixing each other, what iam trying to say is that semi synthetic oil also known as synthetic blends are the blends of mineral oils with no more than 30 to 35% of synthetic oil, just to give the user benefit of synthetic oil without taking the oil to cost of pure synthetic oil.
Many of them suggested me to use 10w 40 !! semi synthetic & are u are suggesting me not to use 10w40
now m confused[/QUOTE
xxWyy ... going over YY generally is not good, in summers you may consider it but the engine lacks power. I used 15w50 on my discover 100 , where as company recommendation was 20W40.. though there was no issues with riding experience but i could definitely feel the lack of power on throttling . See its my opinion but it may be not the same case with others ( may be ).

Very strange what the hell will VW do with the report by keeping the oil report with themselves.

Sounds like they perform a TBN test using a custom kit; it's not worth 400/-.Originally posted by Divyanshp150 View Post... I asked what can they give reply was if the oil is 'ok' to use any further or not. I said then no use. Dropped it ...

I would like to know what you will accomplish by receiving the report??

Guys chill out!!Originally posted by kusmaker View PostVery strange what the hell will VW do with the report by keeping the oil report with themselves.
Authorised car sevice centers provide rubbish service similar to many bike A.S.S. Consumer complaint forums are filled with complaints against car A.S.S.
For all we know the so called "oil analysis" by VW is just a marketing gimmick.
AND what are we going to accomplish by reciving the report??
Moreover is it worth spending Rs 500 on oil analysis when the oil itself costs Rs 1000 (FS Oil) / 280 (mineral Oil)

I feel that 10W40 oil will be too thin for a 220 cc bike. Moreover, 10w40 SS will provide no protection at high speeds that the P220 is capable of. 10W40FS might be good but will vaporize at high speeds.Originally posted by Infiltrator View Posti use pulsar 220fs. my friend suggested motul. would one of you recommend a good engine oil? and also the user manual does not mention anything about warranty being void if we change the engine oil brand. please enlighten me on that topic too.
I recommend that, in summers you shud use thicker oils like 15W50 or 20W50.
MOtul will always be the first choice among oils, whatever the grade you would like to use
