"HDEOs have friction modifiers" - You wont use them.
"I will definitely stay away from HDEOs because they are not meant for motorcycles in the first place" - @Honda_abhi says this.
There is no point in discussing HDEOs further with you people. I will save myself from the junk you are spamming the thread with.

Re: Engine Oils
Use any API CI4 or above spec oil, ELF performance 3D, Rimula R4 are some such oils. If you have a Pulsar, Delvac Super 1300 15w40 oil would also be good, but it is not API CI4 oil.

Re: Engine Oils
After your mentioning of ELF Performace 3D my friend tried this Oil(already tried Delvac 1300, Rimula r4) in his 200NS. we rode around 310kms from our place to Hyderabad and returned. and there was absolutely no problem like clutch slipping/engine heating at all in our entire journey of 620kms. Since it is NS we rode at 100+ speeds most of the time.Originally posted by muztariq View PostUse any API CI4 or above spec oil, ELF performance 3D, Rimula R4 are some such oils. You mentioned that your clutch slipped with Quartz 9000, but I used the same oil in my Gixxer for about 2000kms and there was no sign of clutch slipping.
Not bringing in the science of oils(because I don't have deep understanding) ;;; I definitely believe there is no harm using HDEOs based on mine and my friends' experiences.

Re: Engine Oils
That is phenomenal running on HDEOs. All my vehicles are now on HDEOs whether Petrol Cars like Santro and i10(now sold), my motorcycle and my diesel Safari. I like these oils a lot, and they dont turn black very fast and are easy on pocket too.Originally posted by sandeepcf View PostAfter your mentioning of ELF Performace 3D my friend tried this Oil(already tried Delvac 1300, Rimula r4) in his 200NS. we rode around 310kms from our place to Hyderabad and returned. and there was absolutely no problem like clutch slipping/engine heating at all in our entire journey of 620kms. And it is not just me, Mahindra First Choice put Petronas Urania Supremo API CI4 oil in every car they get for service, whether diesel Innova or CNG Alto.
Regarding clutch slippage, I encountered loss of engine braking and maneuverability after putting 100 ml of Total quartz 9000 5w40 oil. Clutch slippage was not perceivable, but the feeling of loss of maneuverability because of too less friction was not up to my taste.
We have seen clutch slippage on many motorcycles which are running on pure 4t oils on this thread. They have no relevance to oil per se.
If you have got a real hardworking engine, HDEOs are quite handy. I remember covering many 10 hrs continuous journey with minimal engine offs(hardly 30 mins) at high speed, even then the oil didn't darkened much. Castrol Magnatec 5w30 oil showed sludge on the dipstick after similar runs.

Any hdeo oils in the xW50 range? I could give it a try if I had any HDEO in that range since my bike is a p180..Originally posted by muztariq View PostThat is phenomenal running on HDEOs. A DISCLAIMER - I am not against HDEOs. If I get data that says "HDEOs are beneficial than MCEOs" then I, myself willl be the biggest supporter of HDEOsOriginally posted by muztariq View PostConfused people can keep discussiong forever.. and that is what you are upto.

People come on forums to discuss. Thats what forums are for. Nobody is confused over here. HDEOs are not meant for motorcycles is a fact as established as "Sun rises in the east". Thts why oil companies are spending crores of rupees to manufacture separate oils for diesel and motorcycle engines
If muztariq feels HDEOs are better, then why dont you substantiate the facts with links from the internet to support your claim. Be mature enough to get the discussion to a fruitful conclusion. We are trying to establish facts on forums
moderators - this discussion seems to go more towards ego bashing rather than unbiased posting of facts. Is this the environment u want to promote??
moderators - I want to know what facts have been posted on this forum to support HDEOs apart from user experiences? Dont the moderators feel the need to support this claim with facts instead of promoting such information just on basis of user experience??
muztariq - if u want to opt out of the discussion, thts fine. I just thought I had a friend on the forum who would like to research with me on HDEOs.

Re: Engine Oils
The Shell Rimula Series of HDEO Does not contain "Friction Modifiers". Please always know what is a friction modifier, and how to identify them in a Oil composition. My ZMA, and My Mitsubishi Lancer both run on Shell Rimula R3X and R4 without issues.
In other countries the Shell Rotella series of HDEOs are extensively used in Gasoline and Diesel engines...and many bikers have started using it too...just Google and one can see it for themselves.
This is not to promote the oil in any way but just confirming it's use in the vehicle I use for everyday.
It is upto the user to take the decision .When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

Re: Engine Oils
Dear @Honda_abhi, I have been repeatedly telling you to browse through the thread and search for HDEOs advantages and disadvantages. It is documented quite well. For example, see my post 5502 here http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/help-me/...-oils-551.html Please go through the links thoroughly.Originally posted by Honda_abhi View PostA DISCLAIMER - I am not against HDEOs. I am sure the links to HDEO usage in motorcycles would be updated with more and more information now, after 3 years of posting the earlier links.
Nobody wants to discourage a discussion, but it should be unbiased and informative. A simple 'HDEO in Motorcycle' on google gives us all the relevant information. But the effort and responsibility of typing that in the browser and reading the past three years of HDEO related discussion on xbhp has to be performed by the person who wants to gain information. Members may not be interested in spoon feeding to continue a discussion.
The responsibility to find more links and information from the xbhp thread itself lies with you now.
HDEOs of 15w40 can be used in P180 or 220. There are many people using xxw40 grade4T oils in these motorcycles. My fazer mentions 20w50 grade in Service Manual and 20w40 and 20e50 grade in owners manual. I am using w40 grade oils from the starting. No problems.Originally posted by John P Daniel View PostAny hdeo oils in the xW50 range? I could give it a try if I had any HDEO in that range since my bike is a p180..

Re: Engine Oils
Wouldn't it cause overheating? I use it on highways mostly and even w50 oils give up before a max of 1200kms. What about the HDEOs? I know they wont change colour but then, at what kms do they become harsh which denotes oil life end?Originally posted by muztariq View PostHDEOs of 15w40 can be used in P180 or 220. Re: Engine Oils
Use Mobil 1300 Super 15w40 for some 100 kms and then take a call. This oil works very well on heavy duty engines with not so good clearances and the strain on the engine is just too high because of the load they carry. I dont see any problems on a Pulsar 220, 200 or other vehicles. @sandeepcf has just mentioned that he has used HDEOs on Pulsar 200 NS, which also use 20w50 grade oil I think. He hasnt encountered overheating even when the ktm/200NS engine is notorious for the overheating issues.Originally posted by John P Daniel View PostWouldn't it cause overheating? Re: Engine Oils
I'll give it a go then.. Have to be extra cautious though.. Currently running on elf moto 4t. Earlier was using gro 20w50. Performed better than elf but the current one seems to be an updated better oil. Have to check out the new elf's performance..Originally posted by muztariq View PostUse Mobil 1300 Super 15w40 for some 100 kms and then take a call.
