  • Re: Engine Oils

    He guys.

I have a Bajaj RS200, 2.8k km old. At my first oil change the service center used motul 3100t instead of the bajaj DTSi oil. I can confirm that it was a sealed bottle.
I now want to put new oil since my next service is at 5k km.and there is no harm in changing oil frequently. I am not sure which oil to use, whether to go for fully synthetic now or stick to semi synthetic and after 5k km switch to full synthetic.

I have heard people recommend motul 5100(ss) but this oil is 15W50, is there a noticeable difference between 20w50 3100t and 15w50 5100? I have also browsed for other brands and have read some positive reviews too. I know its difficult to recommend the best since one has to use different oils and then compare. but how are these following brands ? has anyone had personal experience or knows someone who has good experience with the following oils?
1.Gulf pride 20w50. Not sure if its synthetic or mineral
    2.Valvoline 4t premium 20w50
    3.Castrol power 1

Also i wanted to know if 15w50 is OK for the bike since bajaj has recommended 20w50 dtsi oil which is mineral and most 20w50 oils available are mineral. My daily riding to work is less than 2km one way in almost zero traffic and once or twice a month ill do a nonstop 200km max round trip. Will 15w50 oil, which is less viscous at lower temperature be beneficial for my type of riding? Most of the 15w50 oils are of synthetic blends and easier to find.

    any insights will be appreciated.

    regards

After riding 3000 kms on motul 5100 10w30 grade I changed oil to gulf synth 10w30 ( green bottle) and my impulse is loving it. It's much- much better n cheaper then motul.1L synthetic oil costs 430rs and I got a coupon of rs 50 so for 380 rs it's an awesome deal. For motul 5100 I would say its not that great for impulse engine. But Gulf so far is the best oil I ever used. It's sooooo smooth. My bike never felt so silent and smooth. I strongly recommend it to hero moto Corp and honda engines.

Gulf synth is available in 1 ltr? That's news to me. AFAIK it's available in 900ml only, even their site shows no 1ltr module.

Yes it's available. Green bottle... Even I thought it's available only in 20w40 grade in 1L bottle but surprisingly I got 10w30 in 1L bottle. I was searching for it in sion area in Mumbai and I got answers like gulf has no 10w30 grade , sir gulf me kidhar bhi nahi milega (you won't get it anywhere.) But I knew I am more informed then those sellers so kept looking and was ready to buy two bottles but surprisingly I got it in mira road that too a 1L bottle.

Old packing has gulf pride 4T synth written in white letters in front of the bottle and it's 900 ml pack whereas New 1L pack has above letters written in black and yellow.

Hi, I have unicorn 160 which has 4k on odo. At 1st servicing they put mineral oil after thai I feel little roughness on my bike. The user manual says oil should be changed every 6000 kms or after 180 days. So please suggest me an engine oil.

6000? are you sure? I own a 2010 unicorn and change oil 2k~3k mark, mostly using shell SS 10W40, Gulf 10W30 is also a good pick if you can find'em in 1 ltr bottles. The best i used till date was 300v 5W40 and i haven't tried any other FS or Gulf oils.
But 6k interval sounds too steep to me, the HET tech is limited to the piston rings i think, and our dusty/ruff conditions + if you're a guy who like to rip I think you shouldn't go further 3k for SS oils.

in user manual it mentioned 1st servicing at 1k km or 1 month, 2nd service at 6k km or within 150 days and 3rd at 12k kms or within 180 days. after 1st servicing I drove 3100 kms. last week I asked Honda service mechanic about oil change he said drive for more 1000 kms. later I checked engine oil with outside mechanic, he also told that oil is still in good condition. I think only FS oil can last for 6k kms. should I go for Honda Throttle FS 10W30 for next servicing.

My Eterno seems to like elf 20W50 the most, highly recommended oil. Good Value for Money too.

i think remember it being greenish during the two earlier changes.the technical sheet of the oil in motul's website also says its colour is green-yellow.. ?
I Changed my 300V last month and it was green. Nothing like yellow or brown.
I suggest you check out the dealer from where you the oil from and see weather all 300Vs are the same color or not.
