What if I use Motul fully synthetic 300V series? It seems to be 15w50. Do you think my F2 can take it? What changes do you expect?

This depends on a few factors like the condition of your vehicle engine&your wallet too!
Read a bit about the 3 categories of oil&prices. Decide according to your budget&which you feel suits your vehicle the best.
        The 3 categories are:
        1. Mineral
        2. Semi-synthetic
        3. Fully Synthetic
Read the first few posts by Sandeep K. Ram&others&you'll be asking us soon about the various types of oils&their feedback!

        • Just got the oil of my CBZ-X changed. Could not do it myself, as I discovered I don't have a ring spannner to open the drain nut - it woudnt open with an ordinary spanner. It seems the mech at the service centre tightened the bolt like his life depended on it (at the last oil change).

At this other dealer, I once again I went thru the "we don't allow outside oils in the service centre" nonsense. But I managed to make them do the job, finally.... and they act as if they are doing me a special favour!! Boy, I'm really getting really pissed off with Hero Honda. Their service and attitude seems to have gone down the drain... and as a bonus you get to fight for things like which oil goes in our own bikes. Definitely not something that works for me.

And I found out that even this service centre no longer stocks the Idemitsu HH oil. They only have bottles of Bharat Petroleum HH oil. I was told by the store keeper that HH sends these consignments, and they take them. He didn't know zilch about which companies make these oils or anything else.

Anyway, finally managed to put Gulf Pride 4T Plus 10W30 into my bike... And it sure made a difference. The bike is smoother and accelerates faster! I'm comparing this with the HH Idemitsu oil. Havent tried anything else in my CBZ. IMO, the Idemitsu oil is decent and seems to do the job, but Gulf Pride definitely "feels" better. I would definitely recommend this oil over the HH oil... esp. since its priced only marginally higher than the HH oil.

          • ^^Glad to hear your views on the gulf oil.Is this oil have extended drain period like ELF??.

Sorry to hear they gave u trouble for changing the gulf oil.I just give my ELF and sit near them they change it no problems here.infact i recently gave my power1 racing
can @the SC and they changed it no ?? asked.they even recommended another
            brand of synthetic stuff.

All i can say is i am blown away by this oil.now gear changes occur usually @6k RPM
To say that pickup has increased is an understatement.even after cruising for 100+
KMS @90+kms/hr the engine doesnt heat that much.paisa VASOOL period

            • ^^^I swear... as I said, I'm VERY pissed off at this. I think I'll once again try bringing these things to the notice of their head office. Things seem to have really deteriorated with Hero Honda here. You are lucky your experiences are better.

Yes, the new Gulf oils are extended drain period oils... both the 10W30 and the 20W40 also... as far as I'v been told. However, the 10W30 bottle only mentions "Extended drain interval". It does not give a figure ...like on the HH oils (6,000 km). I'v been told that the 20W40 does mention a figure on the bottle. I spoke to Gulf about this... as verbal assurances dont carry much weight. I was told that they will definitely try to put this in print. Overall, the company seems really responsive.

I was told that it is good for 10,000 km in "idea conditions", about 5-6 k km in normal conditions and about 4 k km in more extreme/demanding conditions.

Nice to hear that P1R is doing so well on your CBZ-X. I was/am tempted to try it out, inspite of it not being the right grade at 10W40... but shelling out Rs. 750 just for oil in a bike that barely does 1,000 km or so in 6 months dosen't work for me.

I think the Gulf oil gives a reasonable increase in performance at a saner price.

I think 10K km.for a mineral oil is a high expectation! Coz the max a full synth oil lasts is 10-15K kms.again under IDEAL conditions!

The Gulf's being discussed here are Semi Synths.

                    • Castrol GTX is a multi purpose oil and is a popular one in many countries and in India. Better check for JASO MA / MA2 rating on the can before you buy. I haven't seen this on most Castrol packs yet.

I have heard several times that people use this oil in RE Bullet's. Haven't seen this first hand though.

Keeping this in mind, I'd keep away from that oil... you have so much choice for motor cycle specific oils... why look at something that's not so sure about.

I have used Castrol GTX in my Classic Pulsar 180 once, and it didn't feel so good really. My brother happily uses it on his RE 350 though! However, the thing to note is that it is clearly mentioned on the pack (can) of the Castrol GTX oil - 'For Petrol Cars'...
                        :)

Dude, 10 k is the drain period in ideal conditions! That means, where you will be driving your bike at a constant speed of around 50 kmph without any idling, etc. This obviously isn't possible in the real world! So the figure applicable for most people is 5 - 6 k km ...for "normal" usage. If you rip your bike a lot, do a lot of stop-go city riding, frequent short distance trips, etc., you can expect it to last some 4 k km. This is according to Gulf Oil.

Btw, I have no idea why people think fully synthetic oils last longer. Plain fact is they dont!!! Do not use any fully synthetic oil for longer than what your vehicle manufacturer recommends... unless its explicitly mentioned on the oil pack that its an extended drain period oil!

One more thing I noticed about the Gulf oil - it seems to keep the engine noticably cooler than the Idemitsu oil! But the strange thing is that the idling RPM since to have gone down a couple hundred RPM since I changed to Gulf since yesterday! Now I really wonder how that happened!! Dunno if its a good sign or bad. Will keep a closer watch on this and reserve my comments on this for now...

                              • fine dust enters the engine is what they say... and this pollutes the engine oil.

From where does this enter is some thing I gotta learn about.

The air filter does let some in but that goes into the head and not the places where engine oil does its work!!!

@velociraptor13, thanks for the photo and people better understand the table!
