Don't even bother asking them. If nothing is mentioned on the bottle, its dyno oil.

You will most likely see no improvement with Iridium... esp. on a new bike. See spark plug thread for more.

Btw, it would be great if you could scan and post the engine oil page in your manual... esp. where they give the chart.
I was thinking of putting in 3000 4T Plus 10w30 mineral grade during the first service, what do you say? and how do I differentiate between oil for dry or wet clutch?

    whats dyno oil?

So iridium is a 'no' now, thanks. I will take a pic of the engine oil page with the chart and post it tomorrow.

    • Motul should be good. Or you could try Elf Moto4. I believe its mineral oil... just check on the bottle... so somebody else here will know.

You need to only check if the oil is for bikes and not for cars. It should have a JASO MA / MA2 certification.

      Dyno oil is mineral oil.

              • Ya, I told you, its weird. And they have not mentioned anything about the gear oil at all.

This oil contradiction in the manual is making me think of 10w-40 atleast!!

                • ^^^Gear oil?? What gear oil?

But they have explicity recommended 10W30... and the others only if that isnt available. So I feel you can safely use 10W30. Another problem with 10W40 minerals is that because of the wider range, they will not be that durable...

                  • Hey guys, do these API ratings of Oils really matter? Other than the SAE grades?

The Pulsar is recommended API SL / SJ only I checked out a few cans i used and these are the results..

                    Shell Advance S 4t - API SG
Motul 300 V FL - No API rating on can
Valvoline Premium 4T - No API rating on can

Also i noticed that Yamalube is of grade API SG.. Experts please shed some light on this..

                    • API ratings are not designed for motorcycles. But then they do provide a good indication of the oil's slipperiness.

What matters for a motorcycle oil is the JASO MA or JASO MA2 certification and the SAE grade of course.

                      • sae grade is the oil's viscosity grade and operating temperature.

api ratings are something to do with oils which lubricate gears as well as the engine. how the oil reacts to extreme pressure points along the contact patch of 2 gears.
GL-1 , 2 .... so till GL - 5 or 6 are for light conditions to really heavy shock loading conditions . GL 3 to GL 5 are common gear oil ratings.

Some oils additionally have ratings EP - extreme pressure...
for hypoid gear differentials (to do with cars more than bikes), where additives in the oil make the oil characteristics different along the extreme pressure points at gear contact patches.
                        Tough Times Never Last.
                        Tough People Do.

Gear Oil= transmission oil, comes in a 100ml plastic bottle thats to be replaced in the access 125. It has to be drained and replaced and is located near the clutch.

Yes, API ratings could matter. If the manufacturer recommends a specific API grade, you should use an oil of that grade. A higher grade can be used, but not lower! If no min. API rating is specified by the manufacturer, you just might ignore this aspect. A lower API rating does not necessarily mean that the oil will be bad (esp. wrt bikes). In fact the reverse can also be true! As an eg., progressive API grades contain decreasing amounts of P, Zn, etc... and thats not the best news for your bike's innards... In a nutshell, without getting into details, I'd say if you have a fairly old bike and/or if no API grade is recommended, then you might be better off with a lower API spec (like the Shell oil, for eg.). If API spec is recommended definitely don't use something lower than that.

Oh ok... so the Access has seperate oil for the transmission. Any idea which oil is used for the same? I guess it is Suzuki branded?
