  • Help required to choose correct engine.

    Dear All,

I am new here to XBHP but heard of it. I joined the XBHP club just two days back. I need your help in choosing the correct engine oil which gives me good result in term of Mileage, Engine Heat Up, Smoothness, Soft Gear Shifting. I dont mind paying money to get all this for my Pulsar 150 Dtsi digital meter. The model is Jan 2006. I completed 40000 KMS & recently my Engine work has been done like new piston, piston cylinder, shaft, crane etc.. Company Bajaj A.S.S. people are using Valvoline 20w/40 synthetic blend for the engine. But i found that its giving more heat to my engine at low speed of 40KM/H and for a ride of only 6 to 8 KM. I replace the engine oil yesterday with Shell Advance 4t 20/40 Mineral Oil. I am browing this forum since morning but really unable to make a decision to choose the engine oil. After filling Shell engine oil i somehow satisfied with the oil as it really giving me less vibration to the engine, Even not getting heat up as earlier, but the problem which i am facing problem with the gear as i feel them as rough which was smooth earlier with valvoline. Specially i am facing problem to change to neutral on signals & when i stopped my bike at parking lot. Pls help me to choose the best engine oil for my bike. Also pls advise me which oil is good. Synthetic or semi- Synthetic or Mineral Oil.

    THnks & Rgds,
    Sanjay

    • ^welcome to xBhp mate

well, according to my experience Castrol Power1(15w40) has worked wonders for my brother's bike p150 ug3,it is worth the money, its price is around 300/-.One things that needs an attention is the genuineness of the oil, there are lot of counterfeit castrol products in the market, you've to make sure to get an original one from an authorized dealer, rest leave it on the oil,it works like a magic.Tried and tested, even after 2000km the engine still has the same smoothness as it used to before.

according to the fellow xBhpians,Servo 4t 20w40 is also Good for p150

      • Valvoline works better with all the Pulsars - coz even in the Pro Bike Showrooms they use Valvoline
So i would prefer you to stick with Valvoline as im using the same for my ride too...
There are many oils availablei in the market - but it is wise to use the same oil which the engine is habited for few years.....

          Dear All,

Thanks for the reply. Can you pls also suggest me which oil is better synthetic, semi- synthetic or mineral oil.

          • ^Fully synthetic is the best you can get,it lasts for more period of time compared to others eg: motul 300V FL lasts for atleast 7000KM based on the riding pattern

but Fully synthetic oils are priced higher

              All three Oils are better....
But these three differ in thier own Characteristics....
If you use Mineral Oil - you have to change the oil within somewhere around 1500 Km's - if you use higher cc engines Minerals might give you a little sluggishnes in performance (though there are exceptions)

If you use Sem-synthetics - the drain period may very from 1500 to 3000
If costs a bit higher than minerals - there will a reliable performance difference between the Minerals when compared to semi's

Synthetics are a bit costlier and are used mostly in higher cc engines - they can withstand even till 6000Kms but prior Top Ups are required - they provide better performance.....Clutch slippages are common in Synthetics if the conditions are Very Cold......

So the conclusion is all three oils are better if they are used correctly as per the CC of the bikes.....
For your case an Semi-synthetic will do that job better
Or MOTUL Mineral will help you a lot.....since you have Revamped your Engine its better to stick with minerals for few K's

Hey Sanjay welcome to Xbhp buddy

I am satisfied with the Thunder answer.
As you said you have overhauled your bike engine some time ago so I thing your bike will be in running in period.I would recommend you to use Mineral oil not S Synthetic oil and using F Synthetic oil in pulsar is useless F Synthetic are not meant for Pulsars.
Use SERVO 4T or MOTUL mineral both cost same but Motul is far batter then Servo but difficult to find.Changing Mineral engine oil monthly is good for your bike rather then buying high priced oil and using it for god uff.! 8000Km and some 13000Km.. not recommended at all.
13000kms means only 4-5 oil change in total bikes life...

i have inquired from the distributor just now who is sole distributor for ahmedabad. He is having Motul Mineral Base oil and the cost is INR230 for 1 Litre Pack. Now according to him there are two type of oils one is Motul 3000 15w/50 & Motul 3000 20w/40. As you know guys my bike engine has just overhauled 15 days back so want to know which one among the above oils is good for my bike. Also pls suggest me if who is best in mineral oil Shell or Motul. I am really very confused to choose the correct blood for my pulsie sweetheart.

Well sanjay just stick to the 20w40 grade and it is recommended for pulsar 150cc version. You can use motul 3100 20w40. it is really nice oil i am using it and my bike doesn't heat much. You can ask your local dealer he will arrange for u.

Since your bike has done 40000 you can even use xxw50 grade oil.
Guys please correct if i am wrong.

Buddy xxW50 can be used in Pulsar 150 but if you ride your bike in extreme condition which include continues riding like tourers.

Motul 3000 20W40 Oil is perfect for your bike I my self going to switch Motul 3000 4T 20W40 from Servo 4T oil and that for -5 to -6 C temperature there are not much option in India otherwise you can use Mars engine oil new company... invented by NASA for Bajaj

P.S: Motul dealer quoted price 230Rs for Motul 3000 20W40 which I is 30Rs costlier then here in UP its 200Rs.

I am bit amazed that you haven't quoted Shell 10W30 in your post its a very good oil but if you are loyal customer of castrol then why try other.?
