Now, when 20W40 is recommended, u can go for 10W40, 15W40 or xxW40.

You cannot change the later number. Previous numbers can be changed (usually used for cold /lower temp areas.).
Ok... but why cannot I change the later number? As you said 'Previous numbers can be changed (usually used for cold /lower temp areas.)'
So now its very hot in Pune. So later number i.e xxW50 should be better than xxW40?

which one would be better for long rides 90~110 every day?

It is better to choose an oil range which is smaller like 20W40 than a 10W40 because more esters are added for the range, and they deteriorate over time ,and heat,...more than the closer range ones. Moreover ours is a tropical climate and base temp., never drops to freezing -10 or so(except North most areas) and so a closer range can be used.Look out for JASO MA2 certification......just my thought.
that means 20W40 will be a good option for ZMR?

yes ,but the engine will become a bit lazy and rev slowly, due to slightly thicker oil,but heating will come down.

okies..so considering this point i guess 10W40 will suit zmr better then other engine oils..& which company's engine oil are supposed to be best? castrol, motul, gulf, shell etc?

Its good to clear doubt, so read this Car Bibles : The Engine Oil Bible. Its specifically talking about car, nevertheless the principle is same for motorcycles.

I have been using 10W40 (recommended is 10W30) for my Zma-R for the past 15k. One word, its better. Though I use full synthetic only.

              Yes. Go full synthetic.

+1. Once engine warms up. its barely noticeable.

                1. Motul
                2. Shell
                3. Gulf
                4. Castrol
I had put Castrol in the last because of reports of many duplicates coming into market, otherwise it is good oil if you can get genuine.
Motul whether it is Mineral or Semi synthetic or Fully Synth is way batter than the others.
Whichever oil you choose, look for oil with JASO MA2 certification compliance.

Shell Advance ultra is a decent FS oil...go for the 10w40 only
You may have to change it after 3k kms, its life time is not as long as Motul's.

                  • Here is a small review on Patronas Sprinta 5000 4T Fully Synthetic (10w40). I have clocked more than 2k now since I last changed. Bike is Zma-R. This is my second bottle. My first was during the winter. I did not comment the first time as most oil tends to perform better in colder weather, and so did Patronas. So it was difficult to determine whether the oil by itself is good, or is it because of winter.

Simple test: Since one cannot wait for an entire year. See how your bike performs in early cold morning, and compare it to riding in hot afternoon.

Now Mumbai has become hot as can be. As mentioned, the bike has clocked 2+k already. To my pleasant surprise, it is still performing very well. Bike is smooth as can be.

Now, here is a bit of confusion to throw in. On the same oil, at one point, I felt the engine was harsh that usual. The weather has become hot. So I concluded that Patronas was not up to the level of other FS oil in hot weather. After couple of days later, it all became smooth and nice again. I was fairly confused. Then I recalled putting in normal petrol one day as "Speed", my usual fuel was not available that day. Was in no mood to hunt for another bunk, so filled with normal petrol. So when I piece together the couple of days past. It became apparent that the harsh condition of the bike coincided with the time I was using normal petrol. The smoothness coming back also coincided with when I refilled the tank with speed. Note: I always use speed. Always Rs. 500 worth of fuel. There has been no servicing done during these period.

I Don't want to read too much into the petrol thing. Nevertheless, the coincidence is too precise to ignore.

My experience with Patronas has been more than satisfactory, especially when one consider the cost which is 'almost' half of Castrol FS or Motul FS. The beauty, 2+k and still as good as the day I poured in. Already got a spare bottle. A friend rode my bike last sunday, his comment, "Your bike is damn smooth man" .

                      • hello everybody,

please tell me how much engine oil is needed by cbx xtreme's engine at a single time.. i went to a castrol dealer to purchase a pack of castrol power 1 10w30, he offered me 900ml pack and also asked the bike model, when i told him that i need oil for cbz xtreme then he told me cbz xtreme's engine would require a whole 1ltr of engine oil and started offering me other castrol ranges of oils in 1 ltr pack..
                        which are:
-> castrol magnetic 5w30 (he strongly recommended this for my bike )
                        -> castrol power 1 15w40

                        please solve this confusion

                        • @technoholic: Read your bike manual and don't rely on shop keepers for expert advice. They hardly knows anything. The manual will specify the amount of oil required.

-> castrol magnetic 5w30 (he strongly recommended this for my bike )
                          -> castrol power 1 15w40
I guess you mean to say "castrol magnatec". As far as I know this is car engine oil. I use Castrol Magnates in my car. DO NOT use this in your bike.

You may use Castrol Power 1.

Btw, it will help if you learn about the difference between bike and car oil. Use google, its that simple.

thats the real problem, i dont have the manual its cbz xtreme 2007 model and i have purchased castrol power 1 10w30 900ml oil pack for the bike.. just wanted to be sure about the amount of oil needed

                            • Hi riders please help me out with this.
I'm trying to select an engine oil for my xtreme
                              1.Valvoline champ 4T (synthetic blend)
                              2.Castrol power 1 (part synthetic)
3.gulf pride 4T plus (synthetic blend)
4.elf moto 4 fuel eco (mineral oil i think)
                              5.shell advance AX5(mineral oil)

All of there are of 10w30 grade and all cost under 300. The dealer was suggesting Valvoline as the best. I don't want to change grade and what is the difference between part synthetic and synthetic blend?
Only these are available at my place except HH,mak and servo which i don't want to use.
First think you are special then work towards proving it.

                              • @anush: I cannot comment on which is the best for your bike though I can comment on "Part Synthetic" and "Synthetic Blend" and also sometimes known as "Semi Synthetic". As far as I am concern, they mean the same. Matter of language. It means Mineral oil has been mixed with synthetic.

Try reading past posts, there are lots of informations already posted on several oils experienced by users.
