It's ok to stick with Shell advance ultra 10w40.But dont keep switching from fully synthetic --> semi --> fully synthetic ..Stick either with fully or semi. You can try Motul 5100 or Motul 300v FL 15w50.Originally posted by sand_sat View PostIn A War Only Men DIE!!

bro motul will be fine if you opt for 10w40 grade but yes if you go for 15w50 grade you will regret.Originally posted by luvurbike View PostI don't want to use thicker grade... Just want 10w40 or 10w50... One of the members in XBHP told me that motul is not that good for ZMR, but yes if I get some more encouragement (based on experience), I'll go for motul..
IMO get shell advance ultra 10w40, it is the best oil i have used so far. engine smoothness, gear shift all are superb.
here the price is:
motul 300v 10w40 is 980rs/l
shell advance ultra 10w40 is 700rs/l
i dont feel motul worth those extra 280 bucks. but still its my opinion.speed thrills but kills if you dont have skills

Thanks for the information.
But i want to know can we use synthetic oil in Pulsar forever.
As per manual, it is recommended to use oil with grade of 20w40, but we are using 10w40.
Just because now it will be winter in Mumbai and it doesn't mind to use 10w40 grade oil, but in summer since it's very hot we can't go for 10w40 or 15w50 grade oil because their texture is already thin and if we use this oil in hot climate the engine will get smooth but will get erode easliy.

You're paying more for the actual nature of the oils themselves. The Shell is a a mineral oil that has been highly refined through various synthetic processes, and therefore is nothing more than that, a super-refined mineral oil ultimately.Originally posted by Mzee_Maverik View Postbro motul will be fine if you opt for 10w40 grade but yes if you go for 15w50 grade you will regret.

On the other hand, the Motul is oil made out of an actual synthetic compound, the ester, it is not a mineral oil. Therefore, you will see "ester" being listed as the components of the Motul oil.
It's rare nowadays to find synthetic oils oils that are made purely out of ester, everyone and their grandma has gone to the other variety, highly refined with a synthetic process mineral oils.

I would rather consider the shell advance ultra as a semi synthetic oil since it is a blend of esters and mineral oil.Originally posted by maraque View PostYou're paying more for the actual nature of the oils themselves. Bro as i said above the shell advance ultra is just not worth the price since its just a semi synthetic oil being marketted as a synthetic. While the motul 300v is a pure synthetic oil as it is made out from ester which is a group 5 base stock. Hence the high price.Originally posted by Mzee_Maverik View Postbro motul will be fine if you opt for 10w40 grade but yes if you go for 15w50 grade you will regret.

Other REAL synthectic oil out there is agip 4t racing since it is made out of group 4 base stock and hence qualifies as a synthetic. Its cheap too (some 620 bucks)
NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

The shell advance ultra is a higly refined mineral oil(group 4) and then added additives in it.It's only marketed as fully synthetic oil while its semi synthetic in nature.I've been using this oil in my classic cbz till date 2200kms done.Engine feels super smooth sumtimes and sumtimes really ruff. The price tag doesnt justify this oil, 700/- is too much.My mechanic advised me to change the oil asap.I'll drain it after 150kms and pour the Motul 7100
And i really doubt whether shell has been using Ester technology in their oils!

Friends,
Riding a ZMR since May-2010.
Used the stock 10W30 HH Engine Oil till 10,000 kms.
But had to change almost every 1200-1500 kms.
Since there were engine vibes, gear change problems et all.
With advice from a fellow member in Kolkata changed to Motul Semi Synthetic Oil.
Started using Motul 15W50 Semi Synthetic Engine Oil after that.
Though GEAR shifting improved considerably along with less frequency of Oil Change and vibes were also reduced.
But observed that the top speed got reduced along with the mileage too dropped.
Planning to change to 10W30 Full Synthetic Engine Oil from HONDA for Rs 504/- per litre.
Will that be a good idea??
Heard that it is quite better but I guess the price to be quite less
Or may be I should think for some other alternatives.
Primarily I ride entirely in City traffic of Kolkata. (40kms to & fro)
Occasional touring or long rides of non stop 100 km once in a quarter.
Now completed 19000 kms till today.
Some ideas, suggestions & brick bats are welcome.
Meanwhile will be heading for SVC next week for Chain & Sprocket change along with Clutch Plate change.34567 kms and ZMR sold :(

Use xxW40 oil, and dont take the 'xx' below 15. You'll be satisfied. Be it mineral or semi-synthetic.Originally posted by satyajitrc View PostFriends,

If you wanna use FS then you've got only two options 10w40 or 15w50.
Can't comment on FS oils (haven't used one) but mineral oils from motul & gulf are really good.
