may be you are feeling sluggishness with 20w40 because you are now used to 10w30?? Just my guess nothing else.
Btw, have you ever tried 15w40? Its somewhere between both. Try it if you've got problem with 10w30 & 20w40.

Castrol power1 Racing 10w-50 for Honda Unicorn ????

I have poured castrol power1 racing 10w-50 full synthetic in my honda unicorn two weeks ago. before that i have been using honda engine oil.

1. Is it okay to use castrol oil with grade 10w-50 in my unicorn? because my unicorn user manual suggests engine oil with 20w-40 grade.

2. what is the time interval between oil changes while using castrol full synthetic engine oil?

Hehe, thats the funny part, From the 7k Kms I've completed, I've only used 10w30 for about 2k, the rest was 20w40.

And bro, can you post you're chart regarding the oil viscosity and temperature.

The gears might be harsh even due to non proper lubrication by the engine oil. Check the oil level & btw what is the engine oil you poured ?

Its 20W40 Yamalube mineral what was put at SVC. The oil seems to have its properties intact, like water when cold and sticky when hot but has turned a bit dark still looks light yellow, also there is this burnt smell after running the bike few km., Should I change the oil? How come the oil gets bad within 600km?
The oil mark indicates between low and high.

By the way I am feeling gear shifts a bit hard now after doing just 600km after oil change, do you think I need to head out to SVC to get it checked or loosen the cluch play a bit and try top up oil to max level, right now its a little above the min level.

Correctly slack the drive chain,clean it with kerosene and toothbrush ,dry,then lube it with sae90/EP90 gear oil with same toothbrush . Your gearshifts will become very smooth .
Top up the oil to middle-of-max-and-min if you feel so .

Nothing much will happen,which shall be the problem afterwards . A good fully synthetic oil shall nearly freeze your engine's wear & tear cycle ryt there . Wear is necessary for a new engine and is part of it's design .

Wide range oils like 5w40,10w40,10w50 are not recommended, unless you have to encounter such a wide range of ambient temps that you cannot do without them . In that case , stick to (real) fully synthetic API-SL and JASO MA2 rated oils in this grade . Many international car manufacturers will void warranty if 10w40 oil has been used . Conversely, no manufacturer I know recommends a 10w40 oil for it's engine in it's owner's manual in India .

Thank you guys..another question..if i want to stock up a few cans of the engine oil, for how long can i keep them??..is there any expiration period for oils too??
