Hot oil is thinner and runs out faster, but little danger ,because hot engine oil can burn you hand.Changing the oil when it is cold will take more time because the oil will drain more slowly from the engine.Originally posted by vkavadia View Post

1.the used oil has to be disposed off properly
2.we might screw up the seal, etc. (happened once
)
This is what i recommend,
.ride till engine is hot,i.e 10 mins in sun(revv if you want)
.go to the mech shop and place the bike on the main stand
.wait for 5 mins
.let him open the oil drain screw (they (99%) have a long reach spanner, so no hand burning)
.let all the oil drain out (interval between each drop should be <10 secs)
.bend the bike a little if required
.clean the oil drain screw/seal and the bottom of engine from where the oil came out and put back
.put in new oil
.idle for 5 mins on main stand
.enjoy
the concept of flushing is vast and can be done in many ways, using
.special solvents ("flush" liquid )
.desiel
.kerosine
.etc
i do not recommend this unless you have a bike which was run on mineral for a long tim15~20k kms for short distances only, with out regular oil changes (minute amt of sludge might be formed, very unlikely, but still).
ex- p150,2004 model,run 18k kms,avg daily run ~5 kms,oil change - every 3~4k kms,bajaj SVC oil/chepo mineral,skipped some oil changes
now if this guy wants FS and plan to use it regularly, then he has to go for flush
or else, change the oil when hot... i say switch from mineral to SS first and use it,if that oil is good enough for you, stick to it (for most 150's SS are more than enough), if you think FS is for you then change from SS to FS in the above recommended manner.
I also do not recommend SS for atleast 2k kms on 165+ cc and 3k for upto 150cc bike, first switch to SS,use for 2k kms, then to FS
Ex- p220f - 500kms - oil change - mineral
2k kms - motul 5100 15W50
4k kms- motul 5100 15W50 or motul 300v/7100/elf 4Xt tech FS
the thing about flushing is one might actually reduce their engine usable life if not done properly...
Boxy's oil guide
mineral - motul 3000 4t - 20W40/50 (20W50 recommended for
pulsars,esp <150cc)
SS - shell Ax7 10W40,castrol activ (150's),petronas SS 10W40,
motul 5100 15W50
valvolene 4t premium 20W50 (180's, 200's , ~220's )
FS - shell ultra10W40 (150's),Petronas FS 10W40 (i do not
recomend for pulsars) Elf moto 4Xt tech 10W50
~motul 300v 15W50, ~~ motul 7100 15W50
i recommend SS to every enthusiast

Which Oil to be used for Discover 100cc?
Hi all,
Oil indicator shows that there is very little (engine oil) left in my bike, last time I went to Shell and got it changed there itself, although not sure, which rating (Shell branded Oil)etc I have completed 3.5K on this Oil Change (including some 300+kms long rides)
I was going through various threads, I am a little confused, can someone suggest a good engine oil for my bike please, from tomorrow I will be riding over 40kms+ in city traffic for almost a month.
And also I have noticed that sometimes mechanic pour petrol into the engine oil vent to drain any old oil inside, is it a right thing to do?
Please reply asap
Thanks in advance

For flushing...use only flushing oil/agent like above shown oneLast edited by nagthemissile; 06-02-2011, 04:08 PM.

No major motorcycle manufacturer recommends that you flush engine oil . Engine flushing oils are mainly designed to be used in car engines . Under normal use , there should be no need to flush an motorcycle engine ever . You should change straight from your old oil to new , be it mineral to synthetic or vice versa . There is no known incompatibility between these engine oil types (else they wouldn't be selling it). Engine flush oils / diesel /kerosene/ petrol .. nothing is safe .. it can cause more problem than it solves . This is because you can never drain out all the oil that is in an motorcycle engine . So after using a lighter flushing oil , some of the mixture of old oil and flushing oil remains within the engine and mixes with your fresh new oil and spoils it somewhat . Moreover it can loosen & free some of the deposits that sits inside an old engine , thereby causing a block in the delicate oil paths or a gasket leak . As I said , you can never drain out all of the gunk from the flushing process completely .Originally posted by vkuchhal View PostEven i was interested in knowing about engine flush...
