Until the container is sealed a oil has virtually no expiry dates. I used a agip racing 4t FS oil of 2008 manufacturing date a few days ago. No signs of problems whatsoever. But its best to use the oil as soon as possible (just to be on the safe side).

If you store the sealed bottle in a cool dark corner (not in the garage) you can use it 5 years or more later, absolutely no problem . Manufacturers suggest 2-3 years , you know why .
+1 with Madhav .

And bro, can you post you're chart regarding the oil viscosity and temperature.

Is there any 10w40 or 15w40 mineral oils????
Sorry for this very late reply pal, here's the chart

and I've seen some oils of 10w40 or 15w40 grade but cant recall the name or brand. It was some unknown oil.

Have heard a lot about pulsar burning full synth oil specially motul 300v. So, i suggest you first try out semi synth.
ever tried motul 1500 in 15w50 grade? If not then its a good start.

whats your bike name, how old she is, did she specifically asked for full synthetic oil only.

I'm riding Honda Unicorn, 3 year old. currently using castrol power1 racing 10w-50 full synthetic. After switching to full synthetic engine oil, my bike feels even smoother and revs hard. I earlier read in this forum that wide grade oils like 10w-50 or 15w-40 are not recommended for daily city use.
my Unicorn bike manual itself suggest only 20w-40 grade oil.

1. Is it bad to use wide grade oil for my bike?
2. If yes then what grade engine oil you suggest for me?
3. which one mineral oil or semi synthetic or full synthetic?

Thanks mate.

Absolutely no problem. I've been using synthetics on my 2006 Unicorn for the past 1 1/2 years. Used Castrol 10w40(old one) 8000kms, Motul 300v(both 10w40&15w50)4000kms, shell synthtetic 10w40 6000kms, currently on elf 10w50. My rides are in the city only and I faced no problems at all.
one thing from my experience after using synthetics(on Unicorn) is when you revert to minerals you will absolutely hate it.
just don't think too much about oil science, leave the science to scientists of oil manufacturers and experience different oils and know for yourself.

I would not do that unless I can really use the oil's ability to deal with such a wide range of ambient temps & riding conditions. The risk of accelerated wear in the engine outweighs the benefits, if any. Moreover I have doubts about castrol's power1 R being a true synthetic as well as it having been actually tested by API/JASO to conform to the norms it says it does . Honda does not even mention a 10w50 in it's unicorn owner's manual oil/temp-chart .

2. If yes then what grade engine oil you suggest for me?

Same as is suggested in your owner's manual by the bike's manufacturer for your ambient temperatures (refer to the chart given by honda-cbf above) . Honda is not known to make irresponsible recommendations .

3. which one mineral oil or semi synthetic or full synthetic?

Whichever suits your riding type and your pocket depth . For day to day city/rural riding, commuting or medium journeys with about 2000 kms travel in 2-4 months , any good mineral oil suffices . For riding hard and fast and totaling more than 5000kms+ in 2-4 months then a good full synthetic oil shall be cost effective and less jhanjhat ( you wont have to find time etc to drain and refill oil in less than one month too ). Mineral ho yah synthetic , you have to drain and refill with fresh oil every six months .. max . I don't use synthetic since I ride sensibly ( which is how I have lived to get grey hairs now ) and my mileage is about a 1000kms per month max . Motul 3000 4T plus / Gulf pride 4t plus are good cheap mineral oils in 20w40 grade . Honda's own 20w40 mineral oil is very good too .
Replies in bold. Please remember that I do not own the honda unicorn so these are just my generic experience & opinion formed from that .... possibly not even worth 2 paisa .

• [off topic] Good & cheap EP90 gear oil

Found this today , EP90 (sae90) gear oil from Veedol (tide water oil) in nice pouch pack of 500ml for Rs 80.00 only . It's available in EP140 (sae140) grade also in same pack in same price . Castrol's sae90 (now labeled GL4 in new bottle) is gone pricey @ Rs 120.00 for 500ml now , so I bought this one instead to use as chain lube as my old bottle is run out .
For information of those in calcutta, it's available at the oil shop at jadavpur just on Raja S C Mullick Road beside KPC Hospital (near 8B bus stand) .The shop's name is ESS Enterprise . They have good stock of motul / gulf / herohonda 4T (tide water made) and all the other oils too .
