      • Sparx Lid Alert!

        Hi guyz,

Am pretty new here, and was hunting for a helmet to go with my new FZ-16 (Orange).

Read through about 100 odd pages before I fell flat for the SparX. I know its expensive... real expensive but the way I see it if I'm just gonna tour on the bike its worth the investment from a long term perspective.

Besides I spent all my savings on the bike, so a little more hardly mattered

I ended up buying a Sparx Griffin from Performance Racing. Been wearing it only a couple of days but will post a review with pics soon... just my two cents.

I am not an expert or anything, a beginner on bikes to be quite frank but am capable of giving an honest opinion in case someones interested

P.S : Its fantastic... been wearing my friend's chaloo helmets for a while now and this lid is worth every penny spent!

Additionally, I was thinking of buying a good inexpensive helmet... loosely translates to arnd 1000 - 1500 bucks for daily office driving. Will be using the Sparx on weekends & for touring... welcome suggestions. Tried a couple of STUDDS, MPA AGV, VEGA etc before I bought the Sparx actually. But I didnt really care at that moment coz' I had already been wooed in by SparX

I didn't observe the flip-up mechanism from inside. From outside it seemed to be better than the Boolean too!

No link-Studds has not even uploaded it onto their website. Just go to some Studds dealer&see it. It has a very very upmarket feel. Btw, which bike have you bought? Have you gone for a helmet or not as yet?

SparX griffin was for 7.5k @ PRS
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

Always be ready (get geared) to fall and then think of sitting on the motorcycle.

                • Has anyone bought the Studds Ninja 3G? I'm waiting for a review, especially on the new flip-up mechanism&also the performance of the lid at high speeds.

                  • Yep its crazy expensive... cost me 8.5K, came with an extra smoked visor too for all my day time riding. I asked about the night time visibility at PRS and the guy said he wouldn't recommend it.

But as I said, I spent almost all my savings on the bike and I figured if I've got to start out from the bottom anyway rebuilding finances so I might as well start from scratch.

I' a software engineer, the worst part is dealing with the recession at a time like this.... very impulsive buying but couldn't control myself. Hehe

Plan set to ride to Alibaug and back over the weekend so will be in a position to put in my opinion.

                    • Hello everyone..
                      I have a few questions..
                      1) How much should i bargain with the quoted prices?(percentage wise) Since i am very bad at bargaining.. can anyone who bought helmets in bengaluru please tell me how much was the quoted price and how much you paid for it?
                      2) How do i differenciate between chinese brands and genuine brands?
Please please help because i have learnt the hard way that buying a good quality helmet is not "spending" but "investing"
                      Thanks in advance

                        Hi Sharad

I think you should keep a margin of 10-15% off the quoted price at the very minimum. Keep bargaining for that price. I used this thread as a reference, and I am still greatful to velocity and chetan_pulsar, who helped me get 2K back. I had bought a helmet (GP1) for 5K without knowing I had been completely ripped off. Though I had already paid for it, I went to the same shop, and told them about my this site and how I knew I was ripped off badly. They gave me 2K back. Therefore the price I paid for it was 3K. What I suggest you is post here what kind of budget you have or what kind of helmet you are looking for. That way the best prices here for that kind of helmet can be posted and you could go about saving each Rupee.
To answer you second question I think, from what I have seen, the chinese brands are easily recognisable and quite cheaply made. Their inner cushioning is clearly not upto the mark. But I have heard fakes that are exactly identical as the original ones, so beware.

                        • @saif71184: What was the quoted price of the Ninja 3G? Here one shopkeeper quoted Rs.1400. My friend also wants to buy the same helmet, so we're going to try to push for a discount at a shop where we already picked up 3-4 helmets. What is the best price in your opinion?

After looking at the new Marushin range, I feel it is worth every penny. It is also cheaper then the KBC range, though from the same brand. I have personally decided to go in for SparX S-07 if&when I buy the Ninja.
