Is this how all LS2's are? The shopkeeper said that since they are imported by Vega, they are ISI approved and that all old LS2's had DOT rating not the new ones. P.S.-the Cross were still DOT approved.
My LS2 has ECE marking, maybe Vega have got ISI approval for their imports now, why not give them a call to confirm? even with ISI they will be manufactured to ECE or DOT standards anyway, can't see the factory setting up a new production line for ISI standards, i'm pretty sure that DOT or ECE would surpass ISI anyway. Best to call Vega to confirm.

    • Quality helmets that are manufactured to DOT or ECE standards have production lines dedicated to that specification, so the certification standard will be embedded into the clear coat of the helmet itself since in the countries that these standards apply, they are required by law to be permanently marked. Paste on stickers will not do.

Labels which are pasted AFTER production are always suspect, and are normally done at the distribution level and not at the manufacturing site since a surprise inspection can get the factory into trouble.

Another dead give-away is the weight of the helmet. In order to withstand the rigours of DOT and ECE testing, the shell thickness has to be of a certain density, therefore the weight goes up. Super light-weights (unless made of Carbon Fibre or Kevlar composites) will not be able to pass the testing standards. Average helmet weights of ECE and DOT helmets are 1500gms +- 100 gms.

So if you've been presented with a super light helmet that is NOT made of some special material and IS super cheap and also sports a sticker label that claims to meet these standards, chances are very high that you're being sold a fake.

      • Had a chat with Vega. They claim that they have begun manufacture of LS2 in India itself. The LS2's sold in India are ISI certified, the ones exported are DOT approved.
Not sure whats the case here. Needed a lighter helmet, so bought a LS2 Phobia, But have kept my old Cross too (it feels rock solid in comparison to LS2).
P.S. - The shopkeeper had LS2's without any certification too (they were supposed to be old stock)

I believe vega also have DOT and ECE testing at their factory, the prices are cheap enough for what you get and represent excellent value for money imo, i wouldn't expect anything lower than 2 grand for an LS2, they are around 3-4 times the price in Europe/USA.

All new LS2 lids coming into India are mostly being ISI marked. This is a recent consignment from Bangkok and is getting distributed all over. The same was confirmed by 3 shopkeepers and 2 close friends of mine in this business. Sad part is, since Kolkata has a very small market for any helmets above 2k, any/almost all LS2, Cross etc come at an exorbitant price. For eg.- the LS2 Speed retails for around 3500-4000/-
You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

As long as it keeps my head safe, im satisfied. Probably save up for a good helmet in the mean time.
My LS2 Phobia cost me Rs.2800/- Could have gotten it even cheaper, but im not good at bargaining

A friend of mine is looking to buy a helmet (budget 2.5 to 3k) Since he is new to Bangalore, he doesn't know the places where they are available. I have heard of Lalbagh road.
Any specific pointers will be very useful.

                        • Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of turmeric stains from a matte finish helmet? A f**king stupid friend of mine touched my lid with dirty hands, which has left 2 marks on my beautiful LS2.

                            Guys i am newbie,
                            • I was about to buy ninja 3g but few posts suggested that full face helmets are safer? Is ninja 3g good ??
                            • I was thinking on buying LS2. I heard lot of duplicates are moving around, so i would like some tips on choosing original one.
                            • i am struck b/n ninja 3g and LS2. Apart from those, are there other options within this budget ??

I have both the mentioned helmets, the LS2 in way ahead of the 3G in terms of comfort, quality and in my mind safety, the LS2 has padding around the jaw area, where the 3G has none, everytime i wore the 3G, i was paranoid if I had an accident and landed on my chin, that I would have a broken jaw bone, not sure if there is so many LS2 fakes around, buy from a certified vega dealer, you can always give vega a call to find out where you can purchase from in your locality. Hope this helps.
