Looking at the all the helmets and prices most of the members have mentioned, seems like mine is very very inexpensive (read cheap) and I kinda feel awkward.
I have managed to lose 3 helmets so far. Now I have 2 steelbird helmets. One was about 1450/- few years back (currently using) and another matt finish steelbird which is 1050/- ( a year back) and I've not used it till now.
Does it really mean helmets less than 3500/- compromise on safety features .

        A controversial question this is!
The discussion is not related to the price, but the make and safety standards these helmets follow. To give you an example, till a year back I'd a Steelbird SB28 helmet. Cost me 1900 rupees in Chennai.

It's lying unused because they stopped the model and I'm unable to source a visor for it. Its L sized.

It is heavier than my LS2 and offers good wind protection as well. Does it look cheap or bad to anyone out here? But, in general other "phoren" made helmets undergo more stringent certifications and hence better protection offered, at least; for peace of mind. I find this helmet equivalent in protection to my LS2 at least.

Thank you Sharan. I was curious about the quality of helmet I use. I was under the pretext that expensive helmets were more qualitative and reliable than the less expensive ones.
The best brand I ever knew was "Stud" and owned one and now "Steelbird".
BTW, there is a shop here in Chennai (Mount road) that sells visors for most renowned brands.

O.T - I was surprised to know the pricing of a helmet which was 37 grands in one of the portal . Whoa...

Depends. You get ISI certified (stickered) ones for 200 rupees as well. That's the concern! BTW, SB has CF helmets in the performance segment staring from 10 grand.

Here is the helmet for 34grands I was talking about. Still wondering what is so special about it and if any xBHPian has owned it?

Its a high end helmet made of Carbon Fiber shell wrapped in high quality leather. Add to that the safety certifications it holds. But frankly, 34k is a lot! I doubt if SBK riders would use it. For 34k, one can get a good helmet worth 8-10k + nice gear upto 25k.

You have already decided to get it done from a vendor. You only need to get a hold of a good sticker shop which can be got from just dial or on the internet. The shop will take care of the detailing process.

But if you want any ideas on designs, post a picture of your helmet and suggestions would start pouring in mate .

I own this helmet amongst others and have been using it extensively for more than a year.

The NEXX XR1R Carbon is the lightest certified full face helmet in the world, and this one, the Diablo, is based on the same shell. The additional feature is that it is covered by an insulating layer sandwiched between the shell and the outer leatherette material. That means when its really hot, the inside is cooler and vice versa. It also is VERY quiet and has a very large eye port that allows maximum vision. I own and have used several top end brands, like Arai and SHOEI and while these too were superlative products, this one is by far my favourite. The extreme light-weight and beautiful balance is a winner in my book.

Now to answer your question regarding the value of products like this. Perception of value is an individual assessment based on factors that are relevant to the individual. So you may perceive value in something that the person next to you may not. That said, I do feel that many of these products are expensive and priced beyond what would seem reasonable. However, these are not things within our control since we do not manufacture the product and it is made in Portugal. At most, I could ensure that the company charges the least for this product in India. So this USD$700/- helmet retails in India for USD$560/-. Most international brands sold in India in this segment on the other hand retail at prices higher than abroad.

That is very detailed @sunnyside_up. It is very technical and quite convincing for anybody who has a huge pocket.
BTW, looks like you were too much into helmets to gather such information. Thank you.
I wish there were options to mod a helmet with the features you mentioned above (sounds a little cunning, eh?).

Looks like you are wanting to do it today itself... .
Okay, a very simple change that I can think of immediately would be as follows-

                              1. Remove the plastics/vents from helmet (if possible)
                              2. A complete makeover of the helmet with black stickering matt finish
                              3. A partial mirror finish sticker on the visor
                              4. Plastics/vents can be stuck with silver finish or just leave the way it is
                              5. If you could find a good "eagle with wings flapping" at the sticker shop, you could plonk it right in the front of the helmet
                              6. Lettering "ithebiker" at the back of helmet with your attitude towards bike like Endurance, Tourer, Solo rider or something of that sort might explain more about you.
                              7. Change the inner lining if that is possible.

To me, too much lettering like magneto marelli, brembo, ferrari, horses and all that @#$@ spoils the appearance and looks too much fake.
Let me know what you think while others pour in their suggestions.
