  • Re: Helmets

This past Saturday, I met with an accident and was thrown away from my motorcycle at approximately 80kmph and landed hitting the tarmac head first. Miraculously my bike sustained only minor scratches.I was surprised to see my bike without any major damage, cause while being thrown off I taught the whole bike will be wrecked.

Unfortunately my riding gears are damaged. My jacket now has a scraped forearm sleeve plus cracked forearm armor. I've been only using the cheap Probiker glove and even that cheap, uncomfortable
glove have saved my palms. Now its torn and the plastic armors on it are grinded. The helmet though only has a 1/2 inch hairline scratch at it's back part.

Initially I had the hesitating idea of "No need to replace my helmet", As I was so emotionally bonded to it. Yeah I know it may sound a little wierd but its
my first motorcycle helmet and I loved it. To inspect the helmet further, I removed the comfort liner and checked the protective layer. It now has a wide, shallow crater formed on it.
And this shallow, compressed part is much harder than the other non compressed portion of the protective liner. Hence the helmet won't be saving my head in an event of a fall next time. So Its time for a new lid.

Moral: No matter how hard the helmet takes a hit, The outer shell won't completely reveal the actual damage done to the helmet.

      • Hey Guys sorry I can't search the thread right now so I'd like an answer from you all if possible.

Is there any good helmet (Full Face) available within 2K?

Helmet must be good looking and must have air vents. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks!

Check out the studds scorpion and shifter... AFAIK those are your best options for the given budget. The shifter also has an internal sun visor! Models, colors and prices are available on the studds website.

Bhai, pls don't call me sir :P

I was on the lookout for a good helmet last month, with similar budget constraints. So I went around the forums, digging a bit and I realized studds is the only quality option available in this range. I've picked up a shiny black Studds Shifter and I'm pretty satisfied with it. It is a bit on the heavier side, weighing in at 1450gms, but I've gotten used to the weight now. Also it features replaceable internal padding and visor mechanism. I didn't much whistling or wind noise , but I didn't get to ride at high speeds, with this helmet on, yet. The air vents are 2 step adjustable. I feel that in order to get a good air flow, you need to be riding at at least 50~60 kmph.
The helmet felt steady even with a little crosswind when riding around 80kmph
All of the above are initial impressions only. I haven't had the chance to ride much over the past month. Hope this info will be useful.

P.S. - The studds scorpion on the other hand is a looker! The new graphics are great. Chose the shifter over it only for the internal visor.

P.P.S - If possible, go to a studds authorized dealer. In my experience, regular stores quote extremely high prices, and a whole lot of negotiation and bargaining will be required. Good luck!

                Cheers,
                Chand

Oh I see. I call everyone Sir because of respect and not because I think you're a teacher.

Anyway Thanks bro a lot again for the info and short review of the helmet. I'll do as you have advised.

Hi, you will mostly find the items listed are a bit costly, as we import it for the customers, as they order!
We dont promote, what you already get in india for cheap. The sole aim of the website is to get the items, whatever the rider needs and quickly.

You cannot get a item X from those stores, as they have a waiting of more than 3-6 months for their stock, while we get it delivered in 20-25 days only.

And no store would reply you at 1am in the night.

YOU PAY FOR THE QUALITY OF SERVICE,which is the added price!
Cheap is not good, good is not cheap.

So check for Indian distributors not resellers.

                      There is a Dainese D-store in B'lore.
I posted their contact sometime back on this thread. It is run by Tusker group, HD showroom guys.
Give them a call. They are the official and sole authorised sellers in India I think.

                              I'm looking for this helmet.

On some sites, it's called LS2 Lucky Star, on Amazon, it's called LS2 Bulky Star. The model number is also varying. Some sites say it's FF50, some say it's FF350, & another one said it's FF351.

I can't find this helmet with the local dealer. And I'm confused which site is actually offering the real deal.

Can a connoisseur of LS2 helmets help me out here?

P.S. I ride a blue P200NS, so I'm thinking of this helmet because it would look sexy as shit. If you can suggest some other helmet which might look good with my NS, that would be great too.
