LOLzzz... @Vettom SOL is a genuine DOT approved helmet where as LS2 is not even an ECE one. I tell this coz LS2 comes with a ECE sticker on the back rather an embossing.Originally posted by nithinvettom View Postwhat about protection ? is that better than LS2 red dragon ? i think SOL is cheap.
Moral: If you are still confused. The one liner is this LS2 is crap compared to SOL

P.S: Before anyone trying to eat my head lemme put this also am a LS2, SparX and SOL owner

SOL is DOT certified, which is like the 1st level certification which every helmet satisfies.Originally posted by nithinvettom View Postwhat about protection ? is that better than LS2 red dragon ? i think SOL is cheap.
I personally feel, that it should have been minimum ECE certified, which is above ISI and DOT certified.
Just a quick question, Why would the company put the sticker if its not an actual certification?Originally posted by Binoy View PostLOLzzz... @Vettom SOL is a genuine DOT approved helmet where as LS2 is not even an ECE one. Also, that certification label is present on the helmet strap too, if you haven't noticed.Last edited by inder.cool; 05-14-2012, 03:26 PM.

Any veteran user of international quality helmets will tell you that a proper ECE or DOT specified helmet will have a certain heft due to the build quality required to withstand their stringent tests. This means that a standard helmet unless made of specialty materials like carbon-fibre will always weigh in between 1400 - 1800 grams. Please refer this link where more than 180 international helmets/brands have been ranked as per the weight.Motorcycle Helmet Weights - webBikeWorldOriginally posted by DeVille View Post.... Apparently, they're on the heavy side, weighing in excess of 1800 gms (d fancy LED with battery etc to be blamed)
Can any of you tell me where in Bombay could I find their complete range (atleast one from each with all sizes)
You will see that most helmets even by biggies like like Arai and Shoei are in this weight band. Only helmets made of specialty materials are lighter. The SOL 68s (marked in this list as the GMax 68s) is smack in the middle range of these certified helmets.
The question to ask therefore is if the big names all weigh in at 1400-1800 gms in order to pass the crash tests, how do the lighter helmets manage?
The SOL SF1 which you are referring to is a touring helmet and is equipped with a dual visor, and LED, which adds to the overall weight. Still it is very popular among tourers and there are several seniors even here who own it.
ALL SOL Helmets are genuine DOT certified. SOL India is a direct subsidiary of SOL International, hence the helmets are imported directly from factory and sold for amazing VFM in the Indian market. Are you complaining that a genuine imported and certified helmet is priced too low ?Originally posted by nithinvettom View Postwhat about protection ? is that better than LS2 red dragon ? i think SOL is cheap.

Actually Inder, that is not quite accurate.
The DOT label is the certification required by the US government. Since the US is also the largest helmet market in the world, it stands to reason that it is also the most sought after. The ECE label is only required for the EU market. Since SOL/GMax do not sell in the EU, they do not require it and hence do not label it so.
I have no input or comments on stickers except that there was a post sometime back where somebody had printed/painted an ISI label on his helmet to avoid possible harassment from the cops!

I also have asked this to many others. some of them said that the company(LS2) is not putting the ECE stickers on the back rather they provide these stickers along with the helmet and the dealers put these at their shops. I didn't noticed the the label on the strap though. From this it arises another question, which certification is applicable to LS2 thenOriginally posted by inder.cool View PostJust a quick question, Why would the company put the sticker if its not an actual certification?

Sunny, Ya have to agree on the part that its a US brand and US govt. gives the DOT certification.Originally posted by Sunnyside_up! View PostActually Inder, that is not quite accurate.

Just, check the below once
Motorcycle helmet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A snippet from the above link:
The DOT standard does not require chin bar testing. The Snell Memorial Foundation recently certified a flip-up helmet for the first time.[6][7] ECE 22.05 allows certification of modular helmets with or without chin bar tests, distinguished by -P (protective lower face cover) and -NP (non-protective) suffixes to the certification number,[8] and additional warning text for non-certified chin bars.[9]LOL, ya even I read this..totally hilarious.Originally posted by Sunnyside_up! View PostI have no input or comments on stickers except that there was a post sometime back where somebody had printed/painted an ISI label on his helmet to avoid possible harassment from the cops!

The shops selling those may/may not be putting the stickers but what about the strap labels..those can't be done by the shopkeepers. So it must be a genuine ECE 22.05 E9 certification(this is printed on the strap).Originally posted by Binoy View PostI also have asked this to many others. some of them said that the company(LS2) is not putting the ECE stickers on the back rather they provide these stickers along with the helmet and the dealers put these at their shops. And as per the link below, the ECE E9 certification is from Spain.
