I've never worn the LS2 Combat, but I reckon it isn't any different than LS2 Phobia. And SOLs ventilation is really good, though whistles (which isn't a lot) you can bet your head with SOL.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Thank you B7ackthorn for the advice. Now I will search for one when I go to cities or metro. The place I stay is a small town and these helmets are not even heard of.
I can't order one online again due to the head size.

Happy to see proper application of mind!

Helmets are sized with a Primary and Secondary fit.

The Primary fit is the crown size, where the circumference of the head is measured and EVERYTHING, including the shell, EPS (thermocol) and crown comfort liner(padding) which is made to the correct size has to fit. This crown fit is important because it needs to be as snug as comfortably possible in order to absorb the impact energy to the skull in a crash. Merely padding with extra foam to give the "feeling" of a proper fit is not going to do the job properly in a crash. This is because the primary absorption of impact in a crash is not done by the padding but the EPS. That is the reason that helmet manufacturers abroad make so many different helmet shells, with differing EPS cores and crown liners, in order to get the optimum fit. Most large foreign helmet brands manufacture sizes XXS to XXL!

The Secondary fit determination is done after the Primary fit is done. The secondary fit uses the cheek-pads to get a snug fitting around the cheeks and face. The cheekpads varies greatly, since a person with a large face could have a fat or lean face and this will mean thinning or thickening of the cheek pads accordingly.

Always remember that the cheekpads are to be adjusted AFTER the determination of the crown size, not the the other way around, since this fitting is more for comfort and snugness.

In India, since helmets are still a "bazaar" item and not really bought by the majority of riders for their protection, the traders and shopkeepers prefer to stock just one size to keep inventories low. So most importers and manufacturers stock only the size L or XL, since traders can just stuff foam into the helmets to get a "fit" with any customer. They then convince customers with swapping cheekpads, to give the customer a feeling of a proper fit, when in reality they are just adjusting for the face, not the head. This is incorrect and often negates the very purpose for which you buy a helmet - but nobody is asking and nobody cares.

Buying a wrong sized helmet is like wearing a loose seatbelt. It cannot do its job properly and can even be dangerous.

If the buying public was properly educated, the traders would have to stock many more sizes and increase their inventory. Remember, they can stuff bits of foam into an XL or L sized helmet to make it seem to fit a smaller head to convince a gullible customer, but they can't expand a S sized helmet to fit a customer with a large head. That's why you never find smaller sizes in the shops.

So if they're attempting to "size" the helmet by stuffing foam, refuse and demand the proper size! Remember its your head!
Thanks. I think it is a good post for many. I am sure most with smaller heads who went there end up buying L size (if they are buying good ones. Cheaper ones available in other sizes which matches with your interpretation). Though current one is OK for me, I am not going to Helmet Paradise again anyway as this buy made me to consider for a new helmet soon (though size sticker shows 560mm inside, somehow outer casing is big, so it is big helmet for me though slightly smaller compared to LS2- L size).

Thanks. Great work in this forum.
My current lid weight is 1370gms. I am feeling it to be OK, but didn't ride continuously for more than an hour, so can't completely come to terms with the weight yet.

Could you please provide a ballpark weight estimate for following brands. LS2 is between 1400 to 1500gms.

            Airoh
            NUVO
            SOL
            AGV
            Sparx

I am assuming that all above will be available for around Rs7K. I am so used to 1100gm weight that, if anything below 1200gms is what I would consider first. Of course I am willing to trade comfort for some weight more if that the case be.

Also, read you are having some fitting issues with Airoh, is it a general issue or subjective?.

            Thanks a lot.

My AIROH was on of their top of the line helmet. I really love the helmet, but the drawback being, my cheeks a littly fleshy, there is too much snugness which literally pushes my cheeks inside and I've bitten my cheeks a lot of times, chewing on a gum (as lame as it sounds)

But mind you, that was the MotoGP spec helmet and is really, really light weight, compared to my two other helmets. Feels very light weight, and you forget that it's on your head, and the visor is excellent, almost crystal clear with no hindrance whatsoever.

If my conviction is right, NUVO, SparX and to an extent SOL do all fall in the same weight category. AGV isn't too light weight, but a "tad" heavier than the AIROH but both fall in the light weight league. But, when it comes to light weight helmet avlbl in India, AIROH is the one.

Mind you there are even third party helmets, which are even lighter in weight, but AIROH for the price though tad costlier, is worth the bang for the buck.

              Cheers!

              • I remember a helmet related joke that actually happened to one Guy in my office. He is do adamant on keeping the visor crystal clear. And this Guy has the habit of chewing pan. Once he was riding while chewing pan and he forgot that he had the helmet on. He spat out the goo on to the visor. He stopped suddenly because he thought it's blood on his visor.

Your question has been asked by a lot of people. LS2, Cross etc fall in the same category. If you can up your budget a little bit to 5k you get some good helmets.

                      Cheers!

                      • Got Sparx s-07 goodvsevil lid last week.I checked out many helmets at the store, ls2 felt cheap(No offence to ls2 users, I used vega motocross previously which was worse), sol was good but liner material was better in sparx.I actually spent 2 hours at the shop in comparing sol and sparx.
The helmet has a very snug feel to it.Theres a bit of wind noise, but i guess its normal.Ventilation is good, not as good as vega :P.Since I have moved from vega offroad helmet, my head feels like its been moved from a shack to a 5 star hotel.Visor quality is good.Theres no glare in night.Graphiccs and paint finish is superb.
Double d clip- At first, it was very cumbersome, but now that ive got the hang of it, its pretty easy. And best part is that you can adjust it properly everytime you wear the helmet.
All in all, Im very happy with the purchase.

All visors do get scratched, if they are hit by flying debris, which is inevitable. Scratch resistant, not scratch "proof" you got the meaning.
