      Great. Thanks

Had been to a shop lately and they discouraged getting SOL saying that only the paint quality is good, the padding is getting deteriorated quite fast and all. Though hard to bieleve as there would have been many people here who would have said about it. So anybody facing this issue ??

Defects can be part of almost any item out there. I'm not appeasing nor depreciating SOL or the users. By maintenance there is nothing so significant but proper wash at correct intervals, the liners is all it gets close to maintenance.

Deteriorating in the sense, you mean padding mechanism giving up or padding stitching giving up or discoloration?

      Cheers!

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

As VJ said, nothing more than a soap water wash after every long ride.

          I got my LS2 FF396 CT2 carbon fiber helmet.
          Some of the features
          1. Light weight (1100g).
          2. Air pump is real good working(make fit proper according to your size).
          3. Secondary visor (good for people with glasses.
          4. Ventilation system is pretty good.(checked on NH4)
          5. At high speed wind noise is there... That may be from the switch of secondary visor..

Could you please post the price?

Also by wind noise do you mean howling or just wind blast?

You can say howling, not a wind blast.
Make noise like whistle in very high frequency but no loudness

Price is 10900 at Laxmi auto JM Road/ Nana peth pune (authorised dealer for LS2 in India)

Did you actually weigh the helmet to check this? The reason for me asking this is that a friend has bought this and surprisingly, I did not find it to be much lighter than my SOL 48s.

Howling and blasts are more or less the same to an extent. You might hear something bursting at times, those are caused by the air flow around the helmet and are exited improperly, but sudden posture changes or the helmet wobbling side by side, it happens. ( I don't want to get into aerodynamics here)

Almost all helmets do have noise component, there isn't a single helmet that's is completely noise free, all they can do is reduce, and the more you pay is for aerodynamics, fancy materials etc.

                    Cheers!

Yeah you are right wind flow create some noise always ... Even the expensive ones may be having the aerodynamic profile which creates less loudness ...

Well, by 'howling' what I meant was the shrieks you hear when at speeds above 80. These shrieks are absent in my current helmet and sometimes I experience these 'blasts' when riding in cross winds or as you said when changing position. These give you the feeling that you are exposed to a sudden gust of wind, though you are not. It's all in the ears dept.

What do you say about the pros and cons of using ear plugs? No one here uses them.

From my personal experience, wind noise and cost of the helmet are unrelated. I've owned some really expensive helmets and found a few of them to be heavy, have poor aerodynamics and also be very noisy. Wind noise is very difficult to quantify, since what may be "noisy" for you may be quite "normal" for another rider. In the absence of any real measuring equipment or standard, we have to go by "feel". And that is highly subjective.

See what I mean? We're describing the level and type of sound, since we cannot measure it.

Incidentally, I use ear plugs on the highway. I believe several others here do too. They make a huge difference to your fatigue levels.

Personally have used earplugs, and many use it but they just aren't confessing it here, wise guys they are comfortable but after prolonged it started to itch, but that's just me and lost it too.

Lost it as a pair years ago. I don't understand what you mean by shrieks, but howling is what most call it

Shrieks are altogether different from wind howling, wind related wobble etcetera. But as Sunny and I've said it's a given in any helmet

What exactly do you wanna buy? As a personal thought, go for the ones in gear you fall in love at first sight, provided they are worth the moolah you spend. If you keep asking for suggestions, you'll all be even more unsettled.
