Rakesh what I was trying to put before has been nicely explained by VJ Sir ............

The reason why I asked you to go for a ECE/DOT rated helmet is because the norms followed in Europe and US are a lot stricter than what we have in India. It is so because in those nations they ensure utmost value to human life and its safety.

We have a huge difference in the policy making in India and many other developed nations (due to many factors off course). So, the result is reflected in our norms too.

For ex: Indian pollution norms (Bharat Stage) are more relaxed than the European emission standards !!

Hence, I felt that within your budget you can avail a superior product and so I had suggested you to buy one. These ECE/DOT rated helmets have better vents in place to provide relatively better cooling of the scalp and thus there is a very little chance that you may suffer suffocation (as you were saying earlier in your post). Hope you buy a good product at a "killer" price from your friend's shop . Keep us posted
definitely and thank you all again, just waiting for my next month salary to be credited in another 15-20 days, so that I can go and get the helmet or sooner if possible. . . Our Indians need to work on these to make sure everyone feels our's is a superior quality compared to outsiders. . .

    Cheers!!!

It's not about you have I buy, mine is better yours is inferior. SAFETY should be priority. If everyone goes superior and inferior wise, no riding gear will suffice one.

I understand the logic behind your post but this is just a friendly reminder to fellow chums.

As I said there are a number of factors that influence the process of policy making ................ let me help you with an example of such a factor ...........

There are two criteria according to which the World Bank measure Poverty of a nation ............ for $1.25 per day per person of Income, we have around 32% of our population below poverty line while for $2 per day per person of Income, it is 68.7% of our population below poverty line.

Just think of it, if we go that way strict in our policies and ratings, we will hardly make a compromise with the quality of material and so making it affordable to our such a huge BPL population will be next to impossible.

We can always adopt better product for standardization but we are bound to opt for a COMPROMISE !!

Please do your own research. It will result in better understanding of the rules. Here's a start though - Motorcycle Helmet Law - Helmet-Guide.com
and here's another from Britain, which demands ECE certification. - The Helmet Place - Visor and Helmet Law and Regulations

There are many similar references from other countries in Europe too - look them up!

FYI I am associated with a company that imports DOT spec helmets into India. We have repeatedly asked for smoked and tinted visors to be shipped with the helmets instead of clear since the "fancy" visors are popular in India. We have been repeatedly turned down, since the company is very clear that it cannot pass certification without clear visors. Smoked and Iridium visors are sold as aftermarket ONLY. Some companies offer them as a "second" visor n the box.

Box came with One Helmet with Clear Visor and received an additional Dark Smoke Visor as well. Also got a Pin lock shield insert which I am yet to put on the helmet. All the Lorenzo graphic decals set came in the box as well.

Looks: Gorgeous! Looks are out of this world. Big Monster Logos on the side and Lorenzo Signature Halo & X on top of the helmet. Lorenzo's Spartan Logo in the back add to the Glamour of this lid. Hi Viz Orange color for visibility looks awesome too. I don't think I can complaint about Looks in this helmet.

Fitment: Very Snug Fit. I am still trying to break in the cheeks pads, they are a little tight as of now. I am sure it will be fine after a couple of more rides. After wearing it, the comfort is just awesome. I dont feel like removing the helmet at all. But removing it is a little difficult task as it is tight fit as of now :P

Weight: It weighs merely 1300 grams and is super light weight & remarkably strong due to its Tri Composite Shell consisting of Carbon Fibre, Fibreglass and Aramid.

Air Flow: There are vents on top and chin which is easy to adjust with gloves. Ventilation so far has been good & hope to explore the ventilation more in the upcoming rides.

Shield: I think I could replace the clear shield with dark smoke in matter of seconds. It has center locking which I am trying to get used to but the seal is very secure.
As a result the noise levels are really less in those high speeds and I think I can safely avoid wearing the ear plugs with this lid.

Some pictures of the helmet - Although pictures dont do it any justice

HEY! Sachin! I can't believe I missed this! Cool lid! So what's brewing, suddenly all the Mumbai KNOGS are buying new lids? Saw Rajeshwar's and Clyton's new lids too! Awesome!

Will be in Mumbai next week - let's catch up!

Fantastically comfortable and good fitting helmet. Reasonably priced as well. Build quality is so awesome that I can probably never buy anything apart from Bell.

Yes, the default visor is a clear one. I got the light tinted and the dark tinted visors ordered extra with this helmet.

                          Helmet: $ 550
                          Visors: $ 80 ($40 each).
                          Total Cost: $ 630 ~ INR 34650

Price mentioned above. This is my second Bell Helmet. The earlier one being a Bell RS-1 Emblem. The size was determined by checking the sizing chart. I also got feedback from people who have used Bell that the sizing runs true.

In my opinion, Bell makes some of the finest fitting helmets and this one is no exception.

Jokes aside, the reason that dual sport visors have a screw mechanism is because, it also holds the peak in place. I use an MX style tinted goggles over the helmet when riding long distances off road in the sun. The helmet has grooves in the shell to hold the elastic band of the goggles in place so that it does not slide around, and in fact you can even close your main clear visor over the goggles, though the open visor fully retracts into the shield to give you some fresh air. When it gets dark, simply remove the goggles and use the main clear visor. Like I said, one of the most versatile helmets I've ever used.
