BTW im confused with my head size. the one bought by him is M size. my head size when measured simply with a tape is 52-53 cms. so the SOL website says XXS for 52 cms. according to them S wont fit me. but after trying M size i guess S can fit easily.

Another important thing, what about ISI mark on helmet? cops here are putting fine for non ISI helmets? SOL is global brand, should it not carry ISI mark for india?

I too think that why don't these big brands opt for ISI mark? If these brands are marketing in India they should get ISI testing done other then Dot etc. And if ISI mark is mandatory then why and how these brands find a way to indian market at first place without being tested to Indian safety standards. (I know Dot testings are definitely better then ISI)

One more query... In case of an accident if rider was not wearing an ISI helmet then what are the implications on insurance claims?

After you have paid the money and handed over the item, no shop will take ownership of any dents/scratches/paint peel off. Plus the scratch depends on what caused it, not on how old the helmet is.

Global Brand doesnt mean that it 'need to' have ISI marking. If one talk to the cops in good way and make them understand it should not be a problem or else get an ISI sticker made and stick it, simple.

Don't want to dig up the matter which resulted in heated arguments few pages back by comparing Indian ISI testing and Shark Testing. Please Google for detailed view of Shark Helmet testing. Adding to that, its not mandatory that they need to be ISI marked if being sold in our country.

I have a query (may be noob !!) ............. I have seen Sunny bhaiya in pics from Japan Trip, Australia trip etc with a modular helmet on a powerful machine like Ducati Multistrada ......... how does he justify his choice ?

We were sharing our experiences, any rider can use any helmet he wants to. Though Sunny bhaiya uses a modular helmet on his tris but remember his helmet is top of the line helmet, not any vfm product that we are discussing here.

ISI is something very different, to be specific country wide markings such as Dot for US, Sharp for UK etc ISI is for India. But the bitter truth is the latter is swappable anywhere in the world where the former is just limited to India. Why? The reasonings are far beyond my biological instincts.

But if you're in India, and you get yourself a genuine, reputed helmet with ISI you can be rest assured you are *safe* but not to the levels that DOT and other respective homologations. And it shows, if you check any ISI helmet, it's easily mendable with bare hands, and that in itself is enough to dunk the helmets right to bin without second thought if it's subject to DOT certification etc. But it doesn't mean you're not safe, you are.

But what matters is no matter what you ride, where you ride, always wearing a helmet is the right choice, ISI, or DOT or SNELL for ECE etc.

I'll personally ask him regarding this. The thing is some imported helmets may be well constructed even in Modular range....
So, even if a modular helmet is well constructed, it might reach about 50-80% efficiency of a full face helmet's frontal area, which, depending on your need, may be suitable.


But the Indians companies are not good at modulars. I've seen Vega Boolean breaking down just with passage of time... So, what else can it withstand anyways if time & usage alone breaks it? I also heard that one Xbhp guy crashed and sustained some facial damage, due to Vega Boolean's frontal section giving up.

So, if you got access to some modular helmets from reputed brands from abroad, then evaluate it as per your judgment.... But Indian modulars: Avoid them (unless there's a radically strong one available in near future).

In India we are yet to witness a detailed law related to motor vehicle safety. And therefore there is no restriction on anything which carries a DOT or any mark. Since the companies who manufacture DOT and similar standards following helmet have very very less resistance from the law enforcement agencies working in India, so they do not bother to gain ISI marking because they are already up with a better standards based product. And they will not have an ISI until pushed to do so.

ISI is a good safety standard though a little bit relaxed than the global ones but the issue that we have in India is from the end of manufacturers and not from the end of ISI. Last week a friend visited me with his new bike, had a new helmet too (with a 3D logo of the company to ensure that it is genuine) which he had purchased from a shop at some 6 or 700/-. I literally blasted upon him for his poor sense of safety and in mid of our talk he challenged me if I can break his helmet.

And so I did, though near the chin (which was made up of plastic) & not near the shell. If that crap helmet cannot withstand a force from a human being with his bare hands can you imagine what might happen if that fellow wearing such a helmet has to accidentally face a vehicle over his face.

So the point is even if you have a relatively good shell but a pity jaw protection it is immensely useless. And so has been the case with many helmet manufacturers from India.

Please enlighten me if such top of the line helmets are really allowed on a race track anywhere in the world. And if they are not, then we should ask and wait for Sunny bhaiya to bless us with his opinion.

xpranav, Samarth has a valid point there, and I absolutely second his thoughts. Most Indian modular are just so tin cans still embossing the proud ISI logo. If you've ever seen an Arai or Shoei helmets you'll see how sturdy cross sectionally they are, and just because a helmet is modular doesn't mean it's all ding-dong. An ARAI, Shoei etc, high-quality, modular/DS helmet costs as much or even more than their full face counterparts in some instances or if not close. The idea is usage, I have a local modular helmet for my local use and others for touring purposes. I *feel safe* for the speeds I do on city limits for which a good modular helmet will do, even though I ride full face 98% of the time.

Sunny if you see, he's been driving in crazy atmospheric conditions, humid to raging hot temperatures for which it is a wise idea to opt for a modular rather than full full-face coupled with the photography he does and to interact easily with folks he meets, it's more of a convenience rather than outright need, of course with protection, absolutely no doubt about it.
But please I request members to not to use his name to drag on, on the issue.

Excellent Touseef. It indeed is a an excellent VFM helmet that's why I keep suggesting this to many newbies who are budget constrained.

Thanx bro. In Quality, I found it to be slightly better than New models of Ls2 too.

The inner Lining too is pretty decent. Good fit & finish with decent quality.
Cheekpads are good too, infact as good as New Ls2's.
Coming to riding,its pretty comfortable and good ventilation is not that bad. The Lid is good enough for highway riding too. (for people who ride not more than 100-120 kmph, if so i suggest Sparx or SOL,Nuvo or Airoh)
